Restoration Day?
[edit]The plaque at Kaniakapupu from which this data was taken reads:
- KANIAKAPUPU
- SUMMER PALACE OF KING KAMEHAMEHA III AND HIS QUEEN KALAMA
- COMPLETED IN 1845 IT WAS THE SCENE OF ENTERTAINMENT OF FOREIGN CELEBRITIES AND THE FEASTING OF CHIEFS AND COMMNERS. THE GREATEST OF THESE OCCASIONS WAS A LUAU ATTENDED BY AN ESTIMATED TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE CELEBRATING HAWAIIAN RESTORATION DAY IN 1847.

Is the "Hawaiian Restoration Day" referred to here "Ka La Ho`iho`i Ea, Sovereignty Restoration Day"? I could find nothing on Wikipedia about it, and very little outside.
- Seems to be so. From Greer's "Honolulu in 1847":
Restoration Day commemorated Admiral Thomas' act of July 31, 1843, in ending British Commission rule.[1]
- "Admiral Thomas" would be Richard Darton Thomas, and July 31, 1843 was the end of the Paulet affair.
