Residential versus commercial types

[edit]

Latches for residential locks should be classified seperately from commercial types of applications

Perhaps this suggestion has merit. At present, there is no mention in this article of door bar hardware or storefront door hardware. No doubt someone with time on their hands could supplement the wiki with this sort of information. However, residential locks are currently available in commercial quality, so there tends to be little basis for excluding much from the article. ArthurOgawa (talk) 18:34, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Software latch

[edit]

can any one tell me what are latches in oracle 9i

This query concerns a software concept. This article does not pertain.ArthurOgawa (talk) 18:34, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can we not call this latch (hardware)? What's that opposed to, software latches?

mainly electrical latches, which are logical devices that hold a digital value. see Latch for disambig. RJFJR (talk) 21:53, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please note what in this article is OR so that it can be more readily addressed. Thanks. Wizard191 (talk) 02:25, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anything that is not verified by a reliable source can be considered original research. --Evb-wiki (talk) 02:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While technically correct, that's not really what I was looking for. As you have described OR, you had better go out and label almost every article with an OR temp.
What I'm really looking for here is what "specifically" does the template applier think is OR. Wizard191 (talk) 03:03, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As of the present date, this article appears to no longer be tagged as containing original research. ArthurOgawa (talk) 18:34, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is a hasp a latch?

[edit]

there is a photo of an 'hasp secured with a padlock' but nothing written on it. is a hasp considered a type of a latch or is it another fastening method? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chenshak (talkcontribs) 16:53, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This question has merit. For the record, the article appears to treat a hasp as a type of latch, the latter being interpreted fairly broadly. ArthurOgawa (talk) 18:34, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interpreted, but not at all explained. The word "hasp" doesn't even appear in the article anywhere! And so what is a hasp? We do not know. A loose necktie (talk) 04:16, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Barrel bolt lock

[edit]

The opening section of the article says that a latch is not the same as a locking mechanism, but the image shows a barrel bolt, which is definitely a type of lock. 2600:1002:B017:D3E4:9A0F:789A:7C52:1830 (talk) 07:28, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
