Hello fellow editors - alpha order?

[edit]

Hello, I will be adding more listings of 'time capsules' to this list as I believe it is imperative for many reasons. Among those reasons is that it important to identify these time capsules for future generations and Wiki I'm sure in one form or the other will be around in the future moreso than other web resources. I'd like to embellish the listings as well and throw this out these ideas to the other wiki-editors in advance. But can we discuss the order of the listings first? What is the standard now First in, first on top?Last one in, last one on bottom. Once the list is longer would it not be better in alpha order so it is easier to find? Anyhow I throw these questions out in the expectation of being received as a contributing editor to this article. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 15:58, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps by country and by date of creation? Welcome to the Wikipedia time capsule. emijrp (talk) 18:20, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome. Yes by country certainly, I was thinking of by state as well. Date to be opened would be useful to. My plan is to insert a copy of the index of time capsules into the one we will be dedicating next year. Maybe that will take off and future time capsule will contain an index of others so that people in the future will be able to find the others. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 15:06, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi can someone add 10 strath Toronto ON under the driveway 6 feet. to be opened in 100 years

New Timeline Section added

[edit]

Please note I added a new section as a Timeline. Since time capsules have a tendency to get lost I think it is important we track them them better by recording their install and open dates. I encourage others to add to this index. If you need some suggestions as to where to look, I have some. Just reply to this talk. I think we can have some fun with this and accomplish something worthwhile as the same time. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This section will probably be easier to follow if you put it as a WP:TABLE. And the "by country" section has inconsistent use of bullet points, prose following bullet points, and bare information following bullet points. A more consistent formatting in the first section and a table in the "timeline" section would greatly improve the readability of the article. Removing external links?

[edit]

The Palatka time capusle is in an article about lists of time capsules, so I'm not sure how that is not germaine to this article, it also gives a good online reference on how they did time capsules in the 20th century. The Facebook maybe should not be there, but the Facebook page has a link to this page which makes it a good landing page. If there was an exception with Facebook then this should be it, as it recruits more contributions and wiki-editors to this page. I solicit the opinions of the other wiki-editors to these matters. Glad we are having this out now, before I put add a lot more contributions to this page. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again, did you read WP:ELNO? You might also want to read WP:NOTHOWTO. A short and now-deleted web page really doesn't add any value to the article over and above what would be contained if it were to reach FA status, and to be honest the content probably wouldn't even make it into the article as we are not a how-to guide. --Biker Biker (talk) 19:47, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then, I will reinstall the City of Palatka time capsule in as a list item and not as a external link. I believe that the age of the time capsule and how well it was archived warrants it to be listed in this section.--Ourhistory153 (talk) 23:57, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was at first excited

[edit]

and then a bit disappointed after discovering this list. The problem that I have with it is that I would expect the links on the list to lead somewhere where I could find a discussion or at least a mention of the time capsule. A link to Salt Lake City, for example does very little to expand my understanding of this particular capsule or capsules in general. And what does "EWS1#," in Finland refer to? I am reluctant to leap in and start slash and burning away until I understand what is going on here. Any thoughts? The article starts by stating that there are 10,000 or 15,000 (or something) of these things around. Is out goal here to list them all? This is also a test to discover how live this page is because if no one is watching it I'll just proceed as I see fit. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:10, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First off, welcome to our Time Capsule listing page. I'm reviewing what you had to write but not sure I follow your criticism. Each of our goals are unique. I'm taking a screen shot and adding it to my city's time capsule. So that people in 50 years will come back to Wikipedia, if they can find it then, and see how progress was made and also be aware of other scheduled openings. Like most writing projects they take a life of their own. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 20:59, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A separate section for the Time Line of Time Caspules

[edit]

I always had in mind that the time line should have its own section. Of course I know how Wikieditors are in that each one has their own ideas where they want the page to go. So maybe my attempt at the new page may not stay but my intention is to take a screen shot of the page which will go into a slide show. This in turn will go onto a SD card that will play on digital picture frame that will be placed in our time capsule for the people in fifty years. So please be patient with me and let me take my screen shot and if you want to return things to the way they were then let's discuss it here. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 21:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time Line of Time Capsules added

[edit]

I added the new section, now to intergrate it onto the main page. Time_Line_of_Time_Capsules--Ourhistory153 (talk) 21:40, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd still like to see a page to describe the time capsules. What goes into them is special as a lot of thought goes into these

projects. Also I would request contributors to this page introduce themselves and tell everyone else why they were attracted to this project. --Ourhistory153 (talk) 21:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are some issues where the date order is totally out of chronological order. I discuss this at the /Talk:Time_Line_of_Time_Capsulesfor the

new page.--Ourhistory153 (talk) 01:04, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will respond to your request that editors introduce themselves and their interest in the topic. One of the things (two, actually) that I edit are articles about architecture and sculpture. Both buildings and statues frequently have time capsules built into them. Thus I have come across a lot of them in my research. I had earlier asked a few questions that were not well understood, so let me try again. Is it our goal here to list all 10,000 of 15,000 capsules that might be out there? Carptrash (talk) 15:12, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I should think so. There does not seem to be an internet-based list and such a thing would be useful. I on the other hand, seem to no longer be contributing, so consider the source. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 10:45, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They just opened a 1972 capsule in Dodge City, Kansas. I am no longer working on this project. If you would like to add it, the link is: http://www.dodgeglobe.com/news/20181101/time-capsule-items-revealed

Merged articles

[edit]

Several years ago someone made the very good suggestion that this article should be merged with List of time capsules. I started the work, and combined all of the content, but did not finish the formatting. If someone else can pick up where I left off that would be very helpful. -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 03:58, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
