Merger
[edit]Mandalay Bay Events Center should be merged into this article since the events center is not large enough for its own article. --Ben 16:06, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- After two months with no comments I decided to remove the merge suggestion. The events center is the host for many categories of venues. Adding those categories to the hotel and casino article would not be totally accurate as to the location. This split also allows better placement in categories.
Name
[edit]Why is it called Mandalay Bay, when the actual city of Mandalay in Burma is not located on the coast? 108.254.160.23 (talk) 22:39, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- This Wikipedia article might help you understand.
Number of rooms
[edit]I may have missed it, but I didn't see any reliable source in the article for number of rooms. Note to user @69.162.1.58: personal knowledge is NOT acceptable in Wikipedia, even if you're an employee of the hotel. I've found a room count of 3,211 on Mandalay Bay's website -- normally not an acceptable source, but it should be OK for something like this. --Larry/Traveling_Man (talk) 22:15, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
Relative importance of shooting
[edit]I notice that the Mandalay Bay tram is mentioned in the introductory paragraph. The number of hotel rooms in the building is also mentioned. But the largest mass shooting in United States history, which took place in the building, is not mentioned. Is the tram really more important than the shooting? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.87.23.8 (talk) 18:13, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- It is mentioned, but not in the WP:LEAD. Dallas doesn't mention the assassination of President Kennedy in the lead, and Newtown, Connecticut doesn't mention the Sandy Hook shooting. There is a need to keep within due weight and topic for a particular article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:50, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
Adding subsection for "2017 Las Vegas shooting" messes up "History" section
[edit]Adding a subsection for "2017 Las Vegas shooting" has introduced an error into the "History section". The "History" section lists items chronologically, which is proper. However, adding a subsection for the 2017 Las Vegas shooting inadvertently includes the January 2020 sale within that section. There are solutions, such as:
- creating three or more subsections, but that seems overly complex.
- not listing events chronologically, but that seems a poor choice.
Pending something which doesn't break the section, I've undone the change. I have a possible fix, but I'd like to keep that separate from the reversion.
Now about that possible fix: reword the paragraph to facilitate a link to the main article, as well as remove unnecessary detail. Perhaps (with references, of course):
- On October 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire from a room on the 32nd floor of the hotel, killing 60 and wounding 867. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in modern U.S. history.
Thoughts? --Larry/Traveling_Man (talk) 05:13, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- I came to the Mandalay Bay page looking for information on the shooting, and having found absolutely no freaking mention of it actually disturbs me! The lack of any mention does a disservice to everyone but the MB hotel booking people who would much rather not mention that they unwittingly provided the sniper hide for Stephen Paddock. Larry/Traveling_Man, we need consensus on this issue now because the history of this hotel could be whitewashed and forgotten. Five years on, people need to remember this. -- Srwalden (talk) 03:26, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
