Changed redirection

[edit]

This page originally redirected to Metre, which seems too presumptive of what the user was searching for. (I was searching for the electronic device and not the measurement, for example.) Rather than force a user to "Metre" and then have them go to the disambiguation page, it seems more neutral to directly go to the disambiguation page and let the user choose which meaning they intended to look for.

Basically, you seem to be saying that the unit of measurement is not the primary topic of the title "Meter." Assuming for the sake of argument that there is a consensus to that effect, that still leaves links to "meter" in about 700 other Wikipedia articles that used to be correct and now need to be fixed. Your help in achieving this would be most welcome. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 01:41, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was not aware Wikipedia had a policy on primary topic. After reading through that and looking at what links to "Meter," I begrudgingly agree "Metre" is the primary topic. I'll change it back to the way it was, though not without disagreement of the policy. I find it more neutral in general to have such a disambiguous word link to the disambiguation page.

Most words are ambiguous to some degree. Should Apple be a disambiguation page (instead of Apple (disambiguation)? How about George Washington (as opposed to George Washington (disambiguation))? The difference is only a matter of degree. bd2412 T 02:07, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
