Major Relationships.

I've added Jiraiya, and I think that Hatake Kakashi should be added as well. Both of these characters were far more instrumental in Naruto's growth and development than Neji, Rock Lee or Hinata, and I have no idea how you could not consider these major relationships! Jiraya taught Naruto the Rasengan for crissakes. Both Jiraya and Kakashi have much more screen time than some of the other "Major Relationships" characters. Do NOT remove the section on Jiraiya unless you can give a good, factual explanation on why he is not considered a "Major Relationship". Also, on the part about Sakura's feelings toward Naruto, I did not speculate on anything. I took quotes directly from the manga and added a well known psychological fact, please do not change this back either without some discussion, because the previous edit did not clarify the situation, nor was he accurate in his description of everything Yamato said. .:Debil:. 01:25, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I think the relationships section is straying from its original purpose. When it was initially created, I believe it was meant to illustrate how Narutos personality has changed various character's for the better by imposing some of his qualities on to them. Currently, the section doesn't really reflect this idea, as is demonstrated by the presence of a Jiraiya, Sakura, and to a lesser degree Sasuke and Rock Lee sections. If "relationships" are allowed to be added as freely as they currently are, we'll at some point end up with an analysis of how Naruto has affected every character in the series, which would lead to another 77 kb article. So, maybe the section needs to be reworked, or more specifically given a new title? Thoughts? ~SnapperTo 23:49, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm all for consistency in putting back short summaries for Part I. Even though he's the main character, we could skip a good deal of the narrative and make it consice. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 00:14, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I think that a paragraph(maybe even less) for each arc would be good. Nemu 00:19, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
A Part I plot summary could also work, but that would also raise the possibility for a Part II plot summary, and then every week someone somewhere would somehow write four paragraphs about what happened in a 16 page span, as is demonstrated with Plot of Naruto II from some time during the start of the Grass Country arc and onwards. But now that I've gotten that lengthy sentence out of the way, I agree that a Naruto-based Part I summary would be the best solution, assuming that it can be trimmed down enough. ~SnapperTo 00:59, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree. I was going to reply to this saying that every relationship will soon be added, but it sounded rash...Naruto forms deep bonds with everyone he meets, and he inspires them a lot (yes, I hate him XD). It would be so much easier and shorter to just add plot summaries which relate to the character. Right now, all these relationships seem to be telling the story of all these characters. Why have character pages for them then, if you are going to tell all about them through Naruto? So I agree, we should seperate the Naruto story into small arcs (like "Chuunin Exam" or "Preliminaries" etc.) and write the story of Naruto there. Sumhtun 02:21, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Condesing this crap is more annoying than I thought it'd be. See my sandbox for what I've got so far. Taking into account what I've got so far, it can probably be the same length as the current section, since the Chunin Exam is a bulky arc. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 08:36, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Hm, 43 kb. Not too bad, all things considered. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok!, which one of you guys removed the relationships and why!? I needed that! Kid Sonic

Image

Can the image of Naruto in the (I'm forgetting what it's called... It's the box-thing on the side... sorry for forgetting) be changed to a picture of Naruto in a more "generic" emotional state, so to speak? The current image shows Naruto in a semi-face fault, with a simplified mouth and "anger artery" above his temple. I believe that there was, at one point, a better image, and I'm sure more images can be found to better represent Naruto than this one. 75.24.92.170 02:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

A good point. Perhaps a manga image of "Part 2"? Something like this: http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2224/narutopart2tn7.png
Should all the characters images be replaced with manga images from "Part 2"? Is it better to keep images from the anime (which isn't nearly as far along, chronologically) or add in images up how the characters now look (in "Part 2")?
Desire Campbell 140.184.32.65 05:41, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Part I images should remain in the infobox. Far more people will be familiar with the anime version of the series. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 05:45, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I think that the plot of Naruto Arc 1 and 2 is fine enough. I wasn't a fan of Naruto until recently, and I came here for some research about the story and, thanks to this article,I now know a lot about Naruto and co. So,I think that this plot should be maintained for the convenience of other Naruto-would-be fans. However,I agree with the idea of leaving the information about other characters to their respective pages. This page is only for Naruto, and it will just take up more space if details 'bout other characters are put in.Zachary crimsonwolf 12:00, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree with the idea of changing the picture. It's not very flattering for Naruto. I've been searching for a while and I can't find it, but I was thinking maybe that picture of him after he gets the kiss from Tsunade in Episode 96 might be a good choice. BUt that's just a suggestion, any picture would be better than the one currently posted.

IPA on English name?

Need some pronunciation guide on how this same is pronounced in English. Is it Nuh-ROO-to or Nara-TO? --24.249.108.133 19:50, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Wrong and wrong. It's NAH-roo-to in both Japanese and in English. Though, it was mispronounced several times at the beginning of the dub, IIRC, but they have it down now. 75.24.92.170 23:55, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Fear of Ghosts

In the filler episodes, particularly the Land of Birds and Cursed Haunted Castle arcs, Naruto is shown to have a fear of ghosts. Is this worth noting, and if so, where would it fit on the article? You Can't See Me! 04:07, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Trivia i geuss. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kenshin -Himura (talkcontribs) .

Thats filler if your gonna put it in make sure its clearly marked as non-canon. Rocks Lotus 06:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Filler doesn't mean non-canon. That narrow minded viewpoint doesn't fly here. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 06:58, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Kabuto and Someguy, stop the madness

Kabuto and Someguy, maybe you guys could stop your edit war regarding how to arrange Naruto's list of jutsu. (I would report one or both of you for WP:3RR violations, except I can't keep track of the changes tightly enough to make sure you're in violation).

  • Can either of you link to a policy or guideline that suggests that you are right?
  • If not, why don't you explain why you think one system is better than the other, and see if you can agree?

Thanks, TheronJ 14:09, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Neither is following a specific policy as far as I know, they each just have a different view as to how jutsus should be ordered. Kabuto thinks alphabetizing jutsus is enough, while Someguy is trying to be slightly more organized and grouping similar techniques together (ie. all of the Spiraling Sphere variants go together, all of the clone related attacks go together, etc.) I personally like Someguy's approach, even though it does only apply to a couple of characters. ~SnapperTo 20:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Damn, I was having fun (kidding). Very well then. Honestly, I prefer having similar techniques groups. It especially applies here, since many of Naruto's techniques are either improvements or variations. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 20:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll have to agree with Someguy. If you didn't know anything about the series at all, would you click on Great Spiraling Sphere before the regular Spiraling Sphere? Or Clone Body Blow and Clone Spinning Heel Drop before Shadow Clone Technique? You Can't See Me! 23:22, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

IT's TOO DAMN LONG

This page is so freaking huge. you guys need some major reduction. if you keep going on at this rate you're going to reach the point where they won't let you add stuff anymore. I know that Naruto has been going on for a while but come on guys. Here a tip; focus on the stuff that relates to Naruto. Leave the story telling for the synopsis section, assuming we have one. There definitly should be a story synopsis part rather than letting naruto's chacter guide become the summary for the whole story. noman953

Yeah, what he said.--Kenshin -Himura 21:08, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, Naruto is the titular character in an extremely long anime/manga series that likely isn't going to end for quite a while. So an article of some length is to be expected. However, the article is getting to be a bit lengthy. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to shorten it? Raven23 22:15, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
This is about as compact as it'll get for Part I. It's mostly for consistency with other articles. Part II, on the other hand, will be quickly trimmed with the end of the current arc. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 22:23, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Make a separate page for parts one and two, etc. Every other anime is split into pages, why not this one? 68.235.168.183 03:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
So what if its long- we're supposed to display ALL the important info, and there is a lot. If you can't find a particualr thing, just use Ctrl+F User:Yalens/Yalens

Mendokuse

I noticed in Shikamaru's section that the references to the original Japanese Mendokuse has been removed. I believe that this should be returned to the article. It is actually a sizeable statement on his personality and what is currently written means nothing a to a person watching the original Japanese and Fansubbed additions. The way it was originally written covered both the original and english dubbed and worked just fine. Rayfire 02:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Why are you asking this here? This isn't Shikamaru's article. In fact, Shikamaru's mentions the distinction. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 02:55, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Beating a dead horse

No. Change back the order of the names. Naruto is a Japanese anime and always will be, therefore the name order is very important and should go back to surname and then given name. Plus, it just sounds stupid. Change it back. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.49.208.129 (talkcontribs) .

We have in Western order to be consistent with what most fans (most of whom have never seen the Japanese version) expect the name order to be in, as well as the order used in other anime character articles. Besides, there was a debate on this a couple months ago, and there was a consensus among editors to use Western order. Deal with it. NeoChaosX [talk | contribs] 14:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
The Naruto manga uses the Eastern order, so why we just stick with that? (eg. Naruto Uzumaki should be Uzumaki Naruto) (THE ENGLISH ANIME IS NON-CANON!!!, after all... there are things so much worse than DEATH!) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragonball1986 (talkcontribs) .
No, it should not be Uzumaki Naruto. It has been discussed before on, I believe, every Naruto character page. Characters from Rurouni Kenshin, for example, use that order because they are pre-Meiji characters, and policy dictates that people in this category be ordered as family name + given name. Last time I checked, Naruto characters are not pre-Meiji characters. Sasuke-kun27 22:20, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Rather approtiately titled section, considering it's never going to happen. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 23:02, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Personally, I'm in favor of having the names in Japanese order (that is, Family name first, then given name). If this was an article about the English Anime/Manga specifically, then I'd think otherwise. Sasuke-kun27, You can't set Naruto in any given time period; most of it seems... well, I don't know the name, but old fashioned, while they also have things like TVs, VCRs, Cameras and Radio, and I've never seen Japan on a Naruto map. And Dragonball1986, no matter how you or some others might feel, the English Anime/Manga IS Canon (or a type of subdirectory of Canon maybe), unless stated otherwise by Kishimoto (or maybe one of the production companies). --Gero 23:20, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
They have radio transmitters they wear around their necks, just to name one. Not pre-Meiji. 23:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Who are you speaking to? If me, then I mentioned Radios. And once again, I've yet to see Japan in Naruto, thus no Meiji era (yeah, I know it's kinda a shaky argument, but I'm still making it :P ). --Gero 23:29, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, until we do, there's no argument for a pre-Meiji timeframe. Period-specific devices exist in large numbers. Has to be post-Meiji unless the producers say otherwise. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 23:32, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Okay. Here's how we can make it very simple. How much does this article cover? It doesn't just cover what we've seen Officially translated into English does it? If it does, then the article's about the English version of the Anime/Manga; so Given name first, Family name last. If it does cover more then what's been Officially translated, then we use the method used by whatever its source is (which, I'm guessing would be Family name, Given name). Easy, no? --Gero 23:47, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
No. It's supposed to be a article for the whole series, but is supposed to be easily accessible to most readers - no matter how much of the series is translated in a given language. Since we can't verify how many English speakers read/view the Japanese version (since they're all on the Internet), we use English conventions when referring to the series. This includes name order. NeoChaosX [talk | contribs] 01:11, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Regarding canonicity - as established in the aforementioned debate, there's no clear indication of what is canon. Given that Wikipedia is a neutral encyclopedia, we don't establish which medium and/or language for the series is "canon" unless it has been established by Kishimoto or some other official decree. For anybody else that want raise any objections, most of them have been covered in the debate already. NeoChaosX [talk | contribs] 23:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
So basically, you're saying that Masashi Kishimoto's naming sequence is wrong and you westerners (who are simply watching the show and did not spend numerous hours making it) are right? "Majority of Westerners?" Does that include Europe or America only? Honestly, its disgusting how americans think that the world bends to them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.163.208.50 (talkcontribs)
So you're saying you have absolutely no comprehension of Japanese language and instead claiming that Kishimoto just "decided" to arrange the names that way? It's amazing how people have no idea what they're talking about. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 02:19, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
I find it hilarious that he claims the name order switching is an an attempt by Americans to "bend the world to them", yet at the same time calls the author "Masashi Kishimoto". ~SnapperTo 03:36, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
To beat a dead horse further, that's not what NeoChaosX said at all. He specifically said neither order is right or wrong (and what you say carries no weight, since I'm pretty sure you haven't worked on Naruto.) Also, "majority of Westerners" would imply the Western world, i.e. Europe and the Americas, so yes it would include those only. Note that this is the English-language Wikipedia and not Japanese. --Pentasyllabic 04:21, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
I also believe it should be family name first, unless it is an article specifically about the dub. However, people seem to be too stubborn to ever accept it being changed, so discussing it is useless I suppose. -Bloodloss
Personally I agree with everyone who wants it to be in the Family Name - Given Name order. This is the order that the characters give their names in the original japanese, and that should take precidence over any US changes to the series. It would be easier to create another page, Specifically titled Naruto (US Edition) and be dedicated to noting differences between the US and Japanese versions. This would include swaping of names, edited content, changes in plot and jokes for US audiences, etc. This would solve all the debate, keep the page about the series in the correct order of naming, and at the same time cater to the Western fans. It's the best one can do. -Dragonranger 1:24 PM EDT, 20 October 2006
The best can do is use English ordering that poeple will understand, not needlessly complicate things by making pages any sane wikipedian would AfD in a heartbeat. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 17:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I just thought i should make it clear that this is an english article so it should confirm to the english order of the names if you were to keep the names in order you should also keep the entire article in the order of the direct translation example this sentence (Naruto was born on October 10) should look like this (10 Uzumaki October born) directly translated from this (10の忍で) if you want it to be authenic learn japanese like i did and go here and read tis same article in its original language http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9A%81_%28NARUTO%29 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.35.24.235 (talk) 22:10, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Think about it this way if you went to Japan would you change your name from lets say for example "Joe Bloggs" to "Bloggs Joe" no you would keep it how you normally say it. So we should keep it how the Japaness manga keeps it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rocks Lotus (talkcontribs)

Since you're relatively new, I suggest reading this and this. It's too late to argue this point now. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 07:05, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

What you didn't hear (youtube)

Hello there, I attempted to add items to the Naruto Uzumaki page, however was told it is "vandalism" and then told to come here to discuss it first.

The topic was about the "What You Didn't Hear" videos on youtube. I thought it would be entertaining and enjoyable for the Naruto audiences around the world for Naruto's favourite phrases from those videos to be added. Those are "butt cake", "butter chunks" and "cheetos" I also added my source which is the videos on youtube.com. I would like it to be added to the page because I do not see it as vandalism because it does have to do with Naruto. I see nothing wrong with it, it does not hurt anyone and is enjoyable to all the fans that enjoyed those videos. -- 72.78.226.57 17:38, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

If you honestly believe that Naruto ever, in any situation, says "butt cake", "butter chunks", or "cheetos", then you need to actually watch the show instead of pointless dubbed-over videos on YouTube. Anyone who sees you add such nonsense will immediately label it as vandalism. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 17:41, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
How is it vandalism when it is for the entertainment of the fans? I was not attempting to insult anyone. I think Naruto is a good show but I thought the videos were amusing as well. Is it a crime to want to entertain the people?72.78.226.57 17:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia's an encyclopedia, not a comedy club, in case you forgot. ~MDD4696 17:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I am not attempting to make jokes, I am trying to show them what some may not have seen. Naruto fans and non Naruto fans alike could see good in the videos. Adding a "favourite quotes" to Naruto's page is not for comedic pleasure it is valuable information about the video. If people can post trivia on topics, I see no harm in posting that.72.78.226.57 17:57, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
But the trivia is usually information that can be verified in offical guidebooks about the series. What you're posting is a fanmade video that has no place on Wikipedia. NeoChaosX [talk | contribs] 18:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
And it really is not related to anything at all. Kyo cat 18:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
It has to do with a video that has to do with Naruto. Therefore it is indeed related to the main topic. If I cannot post that then I think many things on wikipedia needs to be deleted for false information and having nothing to do with the topic if mine cannot be displayed.72.78.226.57 19:30, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
If it hasn't sunk in by this point, Ill be clear. Your pointless video is just that: pointless. It has nothing to do with the topic. It's just some fan's poor idea of a joke. If you actually knew what you're talking about, you wouldn't suggesting such a foolish course of action. Your video isn't getting included. I suggest you accept that. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 19:33, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
It's not my video you moron. And it obviously does have to do with the topic if a video is about the person that the topic is about. Is it wrong to have a discussion about something? No? Then I have the right to say what I want to and defend the video. It may be a fanmade video but it has relevance in a topic about Naruto. Is there a reason you don't want it on so badly? What are you jealous that you aren't clever enough to think of a video like that? Maybe you are just angry at your parents for not loving you enough. Or maybe you just are a sad lonely person that needs to yell at others for trying to get a little thing onto a website. I think you need to calm down and find out what is the real source of your anger.72.78.226.57 19:41, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Watch the personal attacks. I could take offense, or just get you banned. I think the latter would be more appropriate. Read Wikipedia:Notability and stop arguing about this because it's never going to happen. You need to understand that your video, and by extention every fan-made video, doesn't have anything to do with the series. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 19:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I will watch my personal attacks once you watch you attitude. The video IS a video of NARUTO. Therefore it DOES have to do with NARUTO. If a fan made a video of Rurouni Kenshin it would be no less a video of Rurouni Kenshin than an episode of Rurouni Kenshin.72.78.226.57 19:50, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm not continuing this. You've been told why your video hasn't been included. If we include yours, then every fan's usually half-baked music video with Naruto clips in it would be included. That would make a fan-site out of this article, which it is not. Your video does not affect Naruto, nor does it actually have anything to do with the character. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 20:09, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I didn't say I want the video on here, I said I wanted the quotes on here. And who died and made you king of wikipedia? Are you the owner or the executive editor of it? If not then I could careless about your opinions about what I want. If you don't want to continue then go away.72.78.226.57 20:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Basically if you put that content on the page again, it'll be reverted and you may get a warning or whatever...--SUIT42 20:14, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I love how you people allow others to write false information and have stupid topics, yet I can't have a little spot in the Naruto page to put quotes about a video about Naruto.72.78.226.57 20:18, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
It's strange how you can't realize it was a fan video, not an oficial video. What you want to add is utter nonsense.--SUIT42 20:20, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I believe I already stated that it is a fan video? However, fanvideo or not, it STILL is a video of Naruto. And like I stated, if people can write nonsense topics and write topics that are filled with false imformation, then I should be able to write that.72.78.226.57 20:25, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
It isn't real info. Just because it's a Naruto video, doesn't mean it's worth mentioning. It has to be official. Understand?--SUIT42 20:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Whatever, who are you anyway to this website? Just a random person that has power and yells at people for stupid reasons, no this isn't a personal attack. I am just wondering how people get positions like yours as a moderator(?) or whatever you want to call your position. Are you part of wikipedia's main people or are you just a random person that ended up getting power?72.78.226.57 21:55, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Indent drop. Enough now. You've been consistently rejected. Don't go questioning random people for no reason. This isn't a forum. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 22:00, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't think I was talking to you kid, why don't you keep out of things that don't concern you.72.78.226.57 22:03, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Again, enough with the personal attacks. I'm really close to reporting you right about know. Not a single editor in this discussion has a "power" that the other doesn't. If you're refering to the administrators, the only powers they have that normal users like myself don't are the power to block/unblock users and, I believe, move pages. If I knew that the video was othing but a fan-made video (I should have expected that from the beginning), I would have just reverted it and warned you to stop adding it. Seeing that it's just fan-made, it's not official and the info should not be added. If I made a video about Sasuke with him making out with Kiba, Hinata, and Shino because he has "a never ending love for them", doens't make it true. I suggest you give up. I think that this discussion is pretty much over. --Sasuke-kun27 22:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Are you stalking me or something that you keep talking to me? Plus that isn't a personal attack, it was merely a question, the other was self defense because he had no reason to talk to me again, I wanted to talk to someone of rank, not a random civilian. Fine, I'll stop with the videos, just leave me alone. 72.78.226.57 22:09, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
No one's stalking you. We watch these pages. Also, we are perfectly entitled to tell you your additions are wrong whenever we feel like it. Nothing gives you the ability to hijack a page for your own private conversation. Don't want to talk to us? Then stop asking questions. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 22:12, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I am not talking to you someguy, I am talking to Suit and Sasuke, is it that hard to understand? I am done with this page so don't talk to me and stay off my page with your complaints. I love the "intelligence" of this website (no I am not talking about anyone specific so this is not a personal attack, I am just saying it because so many dumb things happen on it and I get introuble for a tiny thing.) I'm finished with you people. 72.78.226.57 22:15, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Okay then. Bye.--SUIT42 00:18, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Well seeing how this is a JAPANESE anime (and not that American crap) don't you think we should remain as close to the original as possible. except of course the fact that its two different languages......... if people get confused too bad that's their problem. they should do a little research on the culture in which they watching and if they're too damn lazy to do that then like i said that's their problem.--209.244.188.217 00:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Because nobody commented on my "proposal" at Template talk: Naruto, either due to nobody noticing or nobody caring, I thought I'd repost an edited version of it here. If nobody comments on it here, then I know nobody cares, and I'll let it die.

As the first hurdle on my list of Naruto clean up areas, I find the info box (and the smaller recreations of it in the various "List of" articles) to be in dire need of a good trimming. Because I can't really expand this opening paragraph further, I'll get straight to the point and list what I feel needs to go (the key word is "I", as in "my opinion"):

  1. Blood type and Registration #, as neither is all that useful. In the case of Blood Type, I don't know of any importance to it; I (and I'd guess many other people) do not know my own blood type, so it does me little good to know that of a fictional character. Even if I did know my blood type, I don't see what relevance it would have to anything.
As far as Registration # is concerned, it's importance is also questionable. At best, it's (seemingly) an indicator of how many ninja have been registered in a country or how many years the Hidden Village has existed, which might be interesting as a single line in the given country's article. Having it on every character page, however, does nothing but give an idea of who's older than whom, which is more efficiently accomplished by Age.
  2. Eye color and Hair color, as the specific color should be distinguishable by looking at the character's picture. I realize it would be discriminating against colorblind people, but it still is of little necessity.
  3. Caption doesn't strike me as being overly useful. At best, it's an easy place to stick a link to Masashi Kishimoto, but that's about it. It's not hurting anyone, but, whatever.
  4. Date of birth, Height, and Weight I'm not really sure about; all are useful to a fair extent, but they all seem to qualify as Fancruft. Age would also probably fall into this category, but it seems notable enough to warrant keeping. I have no strong opinions about keeping or getting rid of any of these.
  5. Relatives is not something I'm proposing the removal of, but I think it could use a clean up as well. Some characters (Sakura, Choji, Iruka, Haku, etc.) have unnamed parents listed under Relatives, which I don't find to be overly useful. Because Naruto is not a series where people can spawn from the ground, all characters obviously have a mother and father, so there seems to be little need in pointing it out if a name and ideally a link can't be provided.
  6. Jutsu is also something that should stay but see a cleaning. Basically, if every character's list of abilities were to be limited to things or jutsu they use frequently and/or were of particular importance at some point in time, then characters like Naruto and Kakashi could see substantially shorter jutsu lists. To coincide with this change, assuming there is a consensus about it, the section could be renamed Notable techniques, or something of the like.
  7. Finally, as a further trimming, if a field were to have something like N/A or None known of as its only content, then it probably doesn't need to be shown on the specific character's page. Previous affiliation, for example, is N/A on most articles, and that seems rather pointless. So, if fields were to be set up to disappear in the event that they're not given, then most character pages would be slightly shorter (assuming, of course, that this is possible).

And that about does it. If somebody wants to propose further removals they should feel free. Depending on what is dropped, the info box may need some reorganization, but we'll get to that when and if it becomes necessary. ~SnapperTo 01:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Something tells me that page isn't watched by too many. I can "if:" out any n/a fields easily and other fields can be cut altogether without causing harm. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 01:21, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

My opinions are as follows: Blood type has some significance in Japanese and other Asian cultures, which is a possible reason to keep it. Registration number has no information due to lack of context, remove it. Eye and hair color don't seem to be standard on character infoboxes, remove them. Caption should definitely be kept. DOB is somewhat informative, height is definitely informative, and weight isn't really informative although it'd be weird to have just height and not weight. "Relatives" might be renamed to "known relatives", but in any case I don't think that a mere mention of ex. Sakura's father or Choji's mother deserves a listing. "Notable techniques" is subjective, but I don't like the long lists of techniques either. I can go either way on the techniques. --Pentasyllabic 01:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
That Japanese blood type link ups the relevance of the field, especially since it seems to make sense for Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi. Maybe the info box should be linked to it instead of the regular Blood type? ~SnapperTo 21:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Seeing as there have been no further objections, it looks as though Registration #, Eye color and Hair color can be dropped with little fuss, unimportant family members can be removed from Relatives, and ever-changing fields (affiliation, team, and whatever else seems necessary) can be "#if:"ed. The only question is what kind of jutsu is worthy of mention? ~SnapperTo 18:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Common use. For example, Kakashi's copied techniques can go. One-time moves can, too. Common things, most of which I've already deleted. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 18:56, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
So, to use Naruto as an example, the bolded techniques would stay, and the non-bolded ones would go?
Note that I'm not really sure when all of the Clone combos are used, so I'm not entirely sure which (if any) are common. ~SnapperTo 19:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
That sounds about right. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 03:42, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok then; if someone (since I'm not sure what to do with "if:") could fix the template I'd be able to go through the articles and make the above changes. ~SnapperTo 03:50, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
How's that? – Someguy0830 (T | C) 04:11, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Looks good. Though for some reason, the first technique isn't bulletifying and is remaining as an asterisk. Additionally, I'm going to fudge on some techniques that have only been used once but I feel are worthy of mention, which somebody can remove if they'd like. Also, I'll be using this opportunity to switch Lightning Cut to Lightning Blade so as to lessen the amount of weekly reverts. ~SnapperTo 04:49, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Seems good. I fixed the bullet. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 05:05, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Just my opinion, but I don't think jutsu which are just variation on other jutsu should be listed. So yes to shadow clone, not to multiple shadow clone, yes rasengan, no to rasengan+ (odema rasengan?) etc. This basically means dropping multiple shadow clone and Naruto 2000 combo. That information can easily be found by looking at the relevant jutsu pages, and they are hardly his signiture or significant moves.

is naruto older than sasuke and sakura

hey i was just wondering if anyone knew the age difference for naruto and the rest of his team because i believe it said he failed the ninja academy exam twice before he graduated so i was thinking wouldnt that make him atleast a year older than sasuke and sakura i was just wondering cause the manga never really calrified that at least i dont think so. --Zetsuie 16:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

It's right in the article. "12-13 in Part I" and "15 in Part II". Also, remember to sign your comments with 4 ~. Thank You. // Sasuke-kun27 19:19, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

well the thing is i was just wondering if anybody could explain that --Zetsuie 16:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

You mean you want to know why they all have the same age? It's because they were all born during the same year, and as such tend to all have the same age. If you want to know more specifically who's older than whom, just compare birthdays to see who was born first during the year. ~SnapperTo 00:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

No need to be a jerk about it, it was a valid question. Why IS Naruto the same age as Sauske and Sakura. I know I read that he had failed the finla exams at least once before, so shouldnt he be at least a year older? Or did he start at the academy sooner than the rest?--129.2.239.251 05:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

No need to call me a jerk because I didn't give the answer you were looking for; I answered the question I thought was being asked (hence the question at the start of my comment). Maybe he did, as you suggest, start a year earlier, and that's the only logical reason that I can think of. The truth behind the discrepancy, however, is never given, so any explanation on the matter is pure conjecture. Does that answer your question? ~SnapperTo 05:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

It could be that there are multiple oppertunities to take the final exam during the same year? Shonen Jump Master 13:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Naruto's four tailed fox form

does anyone know which manga issue is the one where Naruto transforms into his four tailed fox form? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RVDDP2501 (talkcontribs)

He makes the actual transformation in chapter 293, though he starts it in the previous chapter. ~SnapperTo 02:55, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Neji picture

Someone is putting up a picture of Neji and Naruto in the Chunin exam. It doesn't fit, and does it really need to be there? I thought I'd discuss this first before I start editing. Kyo cat 02:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

OH. It's been taken off. Okay then. Forget what I said earlier. Kyo cat 02:54, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Naruto Uzumaki

uhh, considering the Naruto manga and anime are japanese, change the name to "Uzumaki Naruto".

Just because CN have a dubbed version, no need to turn everything into english.

Authentic names please. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.137.86.22 (talkcontribs) .

I have this feeling this issue will eventually become something like the Linux vs. GNU/Linux arguments that break out on those pages' talk pages every couple months. However, Wikipedia guidelines dictates Western order (with some exceptions, and Naruto doesn't fall into any of them), so we've got to follow that. NeoChaosX (he shoots, he scores!) 17:01, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
And why is it only Naruto fans who have this problem anyway? I have yet to see any Bleach fans complaining about Ichigo Kurosaki and other Bleach character articles being in Western order. Or Midori Days fans complaining the article name should be Midori no Hibi or that the character names in that article should be in Japanese order. It puzzles me. NeoChaosX (he shoots, he scores!) 17:41, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I find it ironic, people on the Dragon Ball articles are complaining about authentic namings too. Even though these particular articles are in English, I personally don't believe that justifies in changing the names to the "proper" way of saying it as if it were in English...... simply because the characters themselves are NOT in anyway associated with English (other then Dubs, which don't have any place in original context, also as an Example of unchanged context the Mangas translated into English use the Japamese context of the names). I believe that it should be changed to the authentic name (Uzamaki Naruto), but redirected from Naruto Uzamaki. That would make sense to me..... Majinvegeta

Article is too damm big

This is one of the biggest character guides I've ever seen. We need to shorten it up and remove unnecessary stuff from it. Also why isn't there a description of the orochimaru and four tailed naruto fight in the Part 2 section —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noman953 (talkcontribs) .

Son Goku disagrees about the length thing. If you want to take a whack at trimming the article then by all means feel free. I've tried on one occasion, though I think I made the article longer by trying to clarify a few points. And if you'd like to add a Part II summary, making the article longer, then nobody's going to stop you. ~SnapperTo 21:33, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Is the article really that big? I think its fine, it helped me a lot, that article, so I think its just fine. If you trim the article, then it won't contain as much information as it has before, but thats just my opinion. Zacharycrimsonwolf 13:14, 14 November 2006 (UTC) 13:12, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Nick Names for the Characters of Naruto

I think that the Naruto articles should include a list of their nick names in them like dobe(naruto), teme(Sasuke), Ino-pig(Ino of course), Fuzzy Eyebrowns(Lee) for them all.

I'm new... so I wouldn't know how to do this but I hope some else does. Btw, thanks to everyone who put Naruto articles up! They're very helpful and I love the spoilers XD

Cute_Blak_katt

That really doesn't seem important.--SUIT42 01:20, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Chunin or Genin?

Isn't Naruto a Chunin since he won the Chunin exams? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.113.169.47 (talkcontribs) .

Not necessarily. Just because one person wins the Chunin exam doesn't mean that they are the only person to become a Chunin. There's a possibility that everyone at the exam could become a Chunin and there's a possibility that no one could. It's all based off their performance. Even though Shikamaru forfeit the first match, he was the only one who become a Chunin (at that time). // Sasuke-kun27 02:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Also, he didn't win the Chunin Exams; he won his match yes, but he still had a couple more fights to go before it could be said that he won the whole thing. ~SnapperTo 02:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Someguy

Buddy you and I need to settle this right now. You don't let me put a summary on the talk page and let others discuss it. No one but you got to even see it. Then you go and revert my edits on Naruto. First of all I'm only adding Naruto's own summary. That's what character pages are for. Stop harassing me man. Seriously Get over it. Don't know what I've done to make you this mad. Don't go around REMOVING other peoples discussion topics. When have I removed your discussions. Naruto's story belongs in Naruto's story. I do not want an edit war with you so please stop. If everything belongs in the plot summary then why do we even have a character page. Why don't you remove the part one summary as well. -----Noman953

First, sign your post correctly. Second, I reverted you because you typed out a plot summary that we already have. Plot summaries don't belong on talk pages. Pages are for discussing improvements to the article. Finally, Naruto's summary was removed because it bloats the article to an unacceptable degree. Check the archives. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 07:55, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Furthermore, your writing completely ignores all the conventions we use on these pages. please look up on name order and other such conventions. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 08:02, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Wow this is the first time you don't have a condesending tone, please keep it up. Ok. I was emailed by around four to seven users to add a story because they know I have contributed a lot to the naruto articles. They told me to do this months ago. I thought someone else was going to put the story in but no one did so I did. On the talk page I put the whole thing up because its a long edit and I wanted people to check it out before I put it in. I didn't expect something that huge to stay there forever, I would have been fine with being removed from the talk page had you allowed other users to see it. The fact remains you still haven't answered why the part one summary is there. If everything goes in a plot summary then there won't be much to put on the character page, which is a good thing because it'll make the character page shorter. But thats not whats happening here is it. In the Naruto character pages there is a plot sumary for each character, right. I'm not going into detail just enough to make the story coherent for naruto's part in it. you can't include a story for part 1 in the article for naruto then expect people to go elsewhere for the rest of it on some other page. The story I put in was only Naruto related and was short unlike the huge story arcs in other pages. Since we are talking more peacefully now what do you suggest we do about this double standard. Noman953 03:12, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
The plot I summary is there because it's finished. We can compress that. The Part II summary was removed because people expand it to a point that the article becomes unreadable. Naruto simply hasn't had much time in the spotlight as of yet. It's more about the others. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 08:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
I still think you removing my stuff from the talk page was wrong because you self righteously never gave other people a chance to see it, but whatever. As for Naruto, he's had plenty of spot light time, its all about him since its called Naruto. Putting the Part2 summary after it ends is a very stupid idea because its preventing the article from being properly updated as the manga goes on. And part2 is going to be going on for a long long time. You should check out how we handle the "Bleach" articles, with them we keep each character updated so that their plot summaries keeps up with the manga. So whenever someone looks up a character he/she will be updated with current events rather than finding the same thing written that happened like a year ago. People are going to come and edit this page without me. You talk about your fear of people expanding the naruto article to an unreadable point, which happened when they made relationship paragraphs for Neji and others, which is interesting because I think the whole Naruto article is already too long. My summary for what happened was short and concise and had only 5 small paragraphs covering TWO new arcs. Don't you think thats better than some noob coming and writing huge story arcs instead. The plot summary link you provided is fine for the story, but what if someone comes and wants to know naruto specific details which people expect to find on a character page, what then? If you haven't already guessed I'm speaking from the POV of someone who knows nothing of Naruto and wants to use wiki to find out---Noman953 07:21, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Couple of things:
  1. If people wanted to see your Part II summary, they could check the page history to find it, or if that's too difficult they could go here.
  2. Naruto really hasn't done much of anything since Part II began, at least in comparison to what he did in Part I. It's a debatable point, but I'd argue that his battle with Orochimaru has been the extent of his strongpoints thus far.
  3. We don't have a Part II summary on this page because we could easily see this whenever Naruto makes an appearance in the manga.
  4. Yes, the article is too long. This is at least the third time you've brought it up, and yet you haven't made any attempts to shorten it.
Finally, not addressed to anyone in particular, whenever I get around to finishing the compression of the episode summaries, all of the Naruto character articles could probably stand to see a restructuring, but I'll wait until I actually finish before bringing that up in full. ~SnapperTo 22:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I just pointed something out

I've just pointed out a few days ago that Naruto Uzumaki bears a big resemblance to a Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball Z (ex. yellow spiked hair, orange and blue jump suit, a circle symbol, blue boots, and emits blue energy). I was wondering if I could post that on Naruto's page with this picture to show similarities. 12/31/06

Adding the info is fine, just drop the picture. It would be stupid to have one. // Sasuke-kun27 00:21, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
