Reasons for renaming

[edit]

Please provide reliable sources for your reason for renaming. to Yaarl Paanam Province. "Northern Province" is the name currently used in the country and it is the name that is well known. Unless sources can be provided soon, the article needs to be removed to it's previous location immediately. ≈ Chamal talk 01:36, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

Yaarl Paanam Province, Sri LankaNorthern Province, Sri LankaUser:BlueLankan has moved the page which was originally at "Northern Province, Sri Lanka" to "Yaarl Paanam Province, Sri Lanka". His reason is that the government is going to change the name. I have done a google search for "Yaarl Panam" (and possible alternate spellings of the name) and have found nothing regarding a Yaarl Panam Province. No reliable sources and not even a blog mentions this renaming. There is nothing about this even in the government's own websites http://www.news.lk/ and http://www.priu.gov.lk/ . One of the recent news items in news.lk mention the "Northern Province" which proves that this is the name currently used. This move clearly violates WP:V and seems to be a rather good example of WP:CRYSTAL. All the sources in the article also give it as "Northern Province" as well, so I suggest a re-move to the original name of the article ASAP. ≈ Chamal talk 03:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed up

[edit]

I have fixed up and standardized half of the page and removed all unnecessary photos such as the ones showing examples instead of the actual thing.--Blackknight12 (talk) 08:10, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New categories

[edit]

I have created new categories for northern provinces, such as i have created the articles for as Coat of arms of Northern Province, Flag of Northern Province, History of Northern Province, Sri Lanka, Geography of Northern Province, Education of Northern Province, Festivals in Northern Province. so i summarized these headings in the main article. thank you--BlueLankan 16:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]

This article contains a mass of licensing violations and copyrighted text from other sources. In this series of edits in August, text was pasted into this article from a number of others sources. I think most of them are from within Wikipedia, though some may not be. The Wikipedia sources include Sri Lankan Tamil people, Sri Lankan Tamil literature, and Bharatanatyam. Text may also have been copied from this external site, [5], although it's possible that instead they have infringed upon one of these Wikipedia sources. In this series of edits, explicit copyright violations seem to have been made, with text matching content at [6], [7], [8], [9], [10]. (This material was briefly in Mannar District, placed by the same contributor, but it has now been deleted.) In addition to the outright copyright infringement, there are more licensing violations, with material copied from Thai Pongal, Puthandu, Thaipusam, Kavadi, Christmas and Ramadan. This series introduced multiple sentences from from [11], [12], [13], [14], [15]. Also there is licensing infringement on Tamil National Alliance and Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups. I'm continuing to evaluate, but at this point there is enough copyright problems in this article--both in terms of reuse of Wikipedia's content and in use of previously published web material--that I'm blanking the article. Hopefully we can find a good way to address this problem. I will post more issues as these are located. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:07, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, moving forward. This series of edits brought text from Sri Lankan local government elections, 2009 with a sentence also pasted from [16]; [17], [18], [19] and [20]. This series introduced licensing violations of Adam's Bridge and what looks to be a straightforward copyvio of [21] (possibly by means of the cited [22]); [23], and [24].
I could go on, but I've spent a good bit of time evaluating this already. I am of the opinion that the article is hopelessly mired in content hosted in violation of WP:C, either because it is reused from other Wikipedia articles without proper attribution or it is copied from external sources. Material from other Wikipedia articles can, of course, be reused, so long as proper credit is given. This is typically held to be satisfied with a note in edit summary at the time the material is pasted giving a direct link to the source article. There is also a template for the talk page, {{copied}}, which can be used in addition. Material from other sources cannot be used verbatim except in limited amounts as permitted by non-free content guideline and policy, unless copyright permission is verified.
I think the best thing to be done for this article at this point is to restore it to the last verifiably clean edit and to permit its regular contributors to evaluate the material removed, attribute what can be restored with attribution and rewrite what cannot be used. This is handling well within Wikipedia's copyright violations policy. I am sorry for the collateral damage this kind of thing causes to other contributors to such articles. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:42, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. The extensive addition of copyright violation text over time makes it impossible to fix by revision. I have reverted the article to the last verifiably clean edit per Moonriddengirl's recommendation. CactusWriter | needles 10:07, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I want change this page if not significantly there are a lot of unnecessary historical and political narratives that doesn't fittingly reflect the wiki site of Northern Province, Sri Lanka or the current facts of NORTHERN Pro, SL.

there are talk of bullock carts, etc..not sure why people put bullock carts in the Northern province. I been to jaffna last month. there is tons of private vehicles and trucks etc. but not bullock carts.

this is a small example of the many this page needs to change..I am expert designer professionally. I tried to modify lot of stuff on the page to be only reversed and restricted now. Kausi255 (talk) 04:29, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
