I find the style in this article to be disturbingly non-encyclopedic in tone. There are colloqualisms ("gaining flak"), unsourced generalizations ("Germans doubt whether Berlin has ..."), inaccurate/incomplete translations (the "bon voyage" bit), etc.
All in all, the original author or someone knowledgeable about the matter should go over the whole thing again and improve pretty much everything. In the current state, this is an eyesore.
