Changing the reception between audiences to positive instead of mixed reviews
[edit]Ive seen many people say positive to very positive stuff about across various soical medias and websites that give users scoring on it and they've all mostly been positive atleast Master Of WikiChange (talk) 22:26, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- why are we even mentioning audience thoughts? What sources are talking about that? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 22:34, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Aren't audience thoughts what matters? Critics have been wrong so many times recently. Scientificaldan (talk) 04:21, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Audience scores can be gamed, which result in things like review bombing. If there is a serious factor about audience scores, we need to have reliable sources to discuss this. Masem (t) 04:36, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Aren't audience thoughts what matters? Critics have been wrong so many times recently. Scientificaldan (talk) 04:21, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- First, thank you for your suggestion. While it's interesting to observe general trends on social media, we need to rely on reliable, verifiable sources for Wikipedia content. This includes user-submitted feedback from platforms like IMDb or Metacritic, as well as coverage discussing that feedback.
- Early reviews do indicate a mix of positive and less favorable reactions, which suggests some diversity in audience opinions. I understand the excitement and desire for people to appreciate the season; however, since season 2 is still newly released, audience reception may evolve over time. It might be best to wait for a more settled consensus before making changes to reflect audience reception. DMBradbury 22:10, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Can someone change the pronunciation of squid game two because I couldn’t recognize it
[edit]. Mightyfootttt (talk) 05:49, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Can you clarify what you mean? Is there a screen reader issue, or are you requesting adding the IPA pronunciation? DMBradbury 21:53, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
I've played these games before
[edit]Has this meme been covered in reliable sources? 150.143.27.183 (talk) 14:27, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- At the moment, there are a few articles from pop culture sites that explain the meme, but they don’t suggest it has had a notable cultural impact. Wikipedia typically includes memes or cultural references only when they’ve been covered more extensively as part of a greater cultural phenomenon, or when it has had a direct impact on what it is referencing. If that does end up being the case, it could be worth revisiting. DMBradbury 22:20, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Article Title
[edit]"marketed and titled onscreen as Squid Game 2"
If Squid Game 2 is both the marketing title and the onscreen title, not just one or the other, shouldn't it be the actual title of this article instead of Squid Game season 2? Googabbagabba (talk) 03:53, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Googabbagabba As per WP:TVSEASON — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 04:13, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- The example given at WP:TVSEASON lists The Amazing Race 8 as the correct season title for the eighth season of The Amazing Race; that would seem to support that since Squid Game 2 is both the marketing title and the onscreen title of the second season of Squid Game, per the rules of WP:TVSEASON, it should be the title of this article. Googabbagabba (talk) 04:19, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- WP:CONSISTENCY with The Amazing Race and other similar series putting the new first intro sentence as being: "Squid Game 2 is the second season of the South Korean dystopian survival thriller television series Squid Game." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Googabbagabba (talk • contribs) 04:23, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Googabbagabba If you think that it's worth referencing The Amazing Race 8 as an example then you could consider starting WP:RMCM. But do note that Squid Game season 1 and Squid Game season 3 exists. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 04:26, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

– To reiterate the points made in the above discussion with Paper9oll, officially proposing this move on her suggestion, per the rules of WP:TVSEASON, which in its WP:CONSISTENCY example lists The Amazing Race 8 as the correct season title for the eighth season of The Amazing Race, since Squid Game 2 is both the marketing title and the onscreen title of the second season of Squid Game, it should be the title of the article, with the new intro sentence "Squid Game 2 is the second season of the South Korean dystopian survival thriller television series Squid Game." — likewise, for the same reasons, Squid Game season 3 should be moved to Squid Game 3, and its intro changed the same way. Googabbagabba (talk) 04:34, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose No indication that sources routinely call these "Squid Game 2" compared with things like The Amazing Race. Also, this would create a inconsistency with the first season and the main series article, since the first season absolutely is not called "Squid Game 1". Also, this misinterprets the The Amazing Race example in TVSEASON, as it is saying that instead of calling it "The Amazing Race: Family Edition", it is to be called "The Amazing Race 8" as all other seasons are typically referred to in reliable sources. Masem (t) 05:07, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose for consistency reason. The first season of Squid Game wasn't marketed with numbering in its title while the second and third season of Squid Game was often marketed and labeled with numbering in its title regardless of primary or secondary sourcing. However, I don't think it's worth having inconsistency between the season's article titling. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 05:41, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:COMMONNAME. Most sources I've seen refer to the "second season of Squid Game", rather than watching Squid Game 2. TAR is a season where everything resets every season, you aren't exactly watching the new season of the same drama.Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 07:37, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME, like Stranger Things season 4; for example, it was marketed as Stranger Things 4, but still widely known as season 4. And, per the WP:CONSISTENT rules in WP:TVSEASON, if this RM were to be closed as a move, Squid Game season 1 would have to be renamed to Squid Game 1, which would just be factually incorrect, as it was not marketed, nor titled, as such. —Mjks28 (talk) 10:42, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose pretty clear WP:COMMONNAME here (at least in English-language sources). RachelTensions (talk) 16:48, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment: That is kind-of my point, since this is a South Korean series. The title there and here is Squid Game 2. English-language reviews might just call it the second season of Squid Game, but the actual show in the original language and the English dub calls it Squid Game 2. Googabbagabba (talk) 17:56, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME specifically calls out usage in English-language sources:
Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's official name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources))

- Oppose. This is unnecessary and seems at odds with the in-universe numbering system. Season 1 was the 33rd Squid Game. Titling the article Squid Game 1 sort of makes it sound like it's the 1st Squid Game. This show is so successful I wouldn't be surprised if we get an origin series on the actual first game. —KaliforniykaHi! 00:47, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per already-argued points of TVSEASON, COMMONNME and CONSISTENT. Renaming this article provides no consistency or suggested alternative for Season 1. -- Alex_21 TALK 02:53, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
