Draws and Play action?

They have their own articles and are so common they are hardly trick plays in the sense of this article. Cryomaniac 18:57, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

What about the more "gadgety" type plays, you know, like when the QB pretends he can't hear the coach through his earpiece and starts to walk off the field and then the center snaps the ball, catching the defense napping. The Colts do that kind of thing a lot, right? What does one call that? Any thoughts? IronDuke 16:26, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Another that might bear mentioning: the fake spike (like Dan Marino used in 1994.) Also, the lateral in Music City Miracle was a designed play, so that might fit here (in contrast to The Play.) --Arcadian 19:52, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Added Marino play. This article is improving rapidly, I think. Anyone have an opinion as to whether Peyton Manning yelling "Attack, attack" to prompt a quick snap when the defense is in disarray constitutes a "trick play?" IronDuke 18:46, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't think thats a trick play, it's basically just like a hurry up offence, and presumably is run as a base running play if the defence don't commit a penalty or call a time out.

What about the "Wrong ball" play? I think it deserves a mention in the rearely seen trick plays, I don't think it's ever been used in the NFL, but it's been increasingly popular in Pop Warner and Highschool football.

I have updated the wrong ball section. Under high school rules and any youth association that uses high school rules, the wrong ball play is not legal.Endermc12 (talk) 21:20, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm not really sure what it was, because it's hard to tell 1) who takes the snap, and 2) how exactly the ball gets to the HB. Good play though. Cryomaniac 11:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Tackle eligible

Should the tackle eligible be added to the list? Jumbo Elliott and Anthony Munoz have both caught passes under this play. Patken4 16:16, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

December 07 Rewrite

I performed a much-needed reorg and consolidation of this article. It still needs work (namely, references). Sections now are 'common' trick plays (whatever that means), 'other' trick plays (but ones in which we can cite usage in NFL or major college football; we just can't record every last Pop Warner coach's brainstorm here in WP), 'famous' trick plays (please folks, only designed plays that have passed the test of time and which most football fans would recognize by a short descriptive phrase or a reference to a specific game; e.g. "The Music City Miracle" or the "2007 Fiesta Bowl"), and a 'See also'. Other Sports

Should this article only talk about trick plays in football? I typed in "trick plays" to see what came up and was surprised just to see a football article. There are trick plays in other sports, such as the hidden ball trick in baseball.Failureofafriend (talk) 03:52, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
