Ballaarat Locomotive name
[edit]Does the "Ballaarat Locomotive" [sic] have a proper name? I suspect that the image caption should either be in sentence case (MOS:CAPS) or italics (WP:ITALICS), as appropriate. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:41, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- according to http://inherit.stateheritage.wa.gov.au/Public/Inventory/Details/2f98ddce-3e05-4b39-b61f-51786c7a658c there isnt a name mention, yeah it uses the single a spelling. Gnangarra 11:52, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Also multiple spellings - need to check the variants satusuro 11:58, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Refs 2, 3 (Minchin) suggest that its name is Ballaarat. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:12, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- ok that is one usage probably worth using. there are others. satusuro 13:20, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Could you list the candidates please? Are they only variant spellings of Ballaarat'? Does any of them include the word Locomotive?
- I suspect that the image caption should be:
- The locomotive Ballaarat
- With spelling of Ballaarat to be confirmed/corrected later, but:
- Italicised Ballaarat (or variant spelling)
- Upper case T to start (the whole title is sentence case), lower-case locomotive (not part of the engine's name). Mitch Ames (talk) 11:07, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
I like -- the locomotive Ballaarat -- for usage as link link uses that. Gnangarra 12:04, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
I just found this source from 1940 that states the locomotive was called Governor Weld looking on trove there appears enough sources for it have its own article as well. Gnangarra 12:08, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- now I've found an 1871 source that says it was called Ballaarat even noting the aa spelling Gnangarra 12:53, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- there is enough written about it to deserve an article satusuro 14:16, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
