[edit]Should this not be moved to Western Australian Police? -- —Moondyne 02:20, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- I guess not, looking at South Australia Police and the two respective external links. -- —Moondyne 08:11, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Western Australia Police is the official name of the organisation.--Hack 03:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- I added a redirect for those that think it is spelled that way. Graeme Bartlett 00:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Sidebox
[edit]I added the side box that appears on the QLD/NSW/VIC police pages, and filled in the relevant information, if someone could find out the WA police motto and ministry and fill that in, it would be appreciated, also if anyone could add in any info i have missed such as any missing major units..
I also added the WA police shield --Nirvana- 06:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Police Air Wing
[edit]I have added "The crash was the single biggest loss of police lives in West Australian history, and the first involving a police aircraft" based on [1] which references an article in The Australian newspaper. However I recall the Police Helicopter was involved in a spectacular crash landing at a local school with debris flying everywhere, including above school children gathered to watch it, perhaps in the late 80's or early 90's, but can't find an online ref for it. Nachoman-au 13:07, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Can't find a ref for that but as I recall there were only slight injuries from that crash.--Hack 03:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Found it and added to article. Nachoman-au 11:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I have added the details of the four officers killed in the Newman Aircrash. I am a serving copper who was at Newman when it occurred (and still am). I could add a lot more details but I fear it would be a more personal entry than an encyclopaedic one. Dhwc (talk) 22:42, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- With due respect, I question the appropriateness of including these names and details in an international encyclopedia. I don't think there is any need, nor is the information very useful for the amount of space it takes. Imho, they belong on a 'roll of honour' elsewhere. Bjenks (talk) 02:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
All three Aircraft crashes involving WAPOL are well documented online within the www.ATSB.gov.au website. I have posted links to each article in the www.AIPOL.org.au website if anyone wants to make it easier upon themselves to find the three ATSB reports. If your not a member of AIPOL and want these then let me know and I'll go and dig them out again. Petedavo talk contributions 15:18, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Coordinates
[edit]Why are we adding coordinates for police headquarter buildings to an encyclopedia? -- Longhair 06:35, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I suspect someone thought: "because we can". Removed as unencyclopaedic. —Moondyne 06:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think it's necessarily unencyclopaedic. I think a link to an aerial photo of the police headquarters illustrates more precisely not only its location (particularly for those not from Perth), but its status as a distinctive "1960's curved building". We don't want to go overboard, but in this case it could be considered useful information. ;) - Gobeirne 08:38, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:WApoliceshield.gif
[edit]Image:WApoliceshield.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Firearms enforcement policy
[edit]I would like to invite those with knowledge of WA Police policy on firearms control to contribute over at the Gun politics in Australia article. In particular, I would like to firstly bring any Police policy perspectives into the article and secondly, find out the historic roots of the WA Police attitude to firearms regulation, which I have 35 years experience of from the WA public's perspective. I read Peter Conole's book Protect and Serve, and enjoyed it very much; but was unable to see any reason for the difference between WA Police and other States in this respect. Stoopid security pop-up
[edit]Whenever I begin to edit this WA Police article (and only this article), a loathsome little pop-up appears to warn me that I'm "about to send non-secure data to Wikipedia.org over a non-secure session". How the hell has someone managed to insert this irritating nonsense, and how can I get rid of it for good? --Anyone know? Cheers Bjenks (talk) 09:08, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Deletion of Image
[edit]I have deleted the image of the officers on the Transperth Train. It isnt fair to have a public image of an officers face plastered all over the internet for all to see. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Written ficton (talk • contribs) 03:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
One again I have deleted the image... It is unfair for a member of WAPOL to have his/her picture pasted on the internet for all to see.
- Actually all you did was remove it from the article, in such cases you should seek assistance from WP:AN. It has been deleted now I agree that as the photograph was taken from an angle that means it was unlikely the officer was aware of the photograph being taken that such photographs should only be taken with express permission, the only exception would be if the officer was clearly involved in a event where the officer wasnt the primary subject Gnangarra 07:24, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Correct sexist language.
[edit]The sheriff still exists as an officer of the Western Australian Justice Department—no longer having police or highways under his (his or her, their etc. jurisdiction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.184.2.249 (talk) 15:40, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Article title - lead sentence - web site
[edit]The police website has at top of page 'Western Australian Police Force' - however there might be other ways - any thoughts as to correct title? JarrahTree 11:51, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
- Looks like they quietly changed the name at some point in the last couple of months. The 30 August archive of police.wa.gov.au has "Western Australia Police" in the header.[2] Hack (talk) 13:05, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
- some changes of recent machinery of government designations have obviously been made from inside locked fridges in basements behind closed and locked doors with notices - do not open until 2085 JarrahTree 13:21, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
Population
[edit]An IP editor has (no doubt correctly) updated the state's population to 2,674,410—but without providing an updated source. Can someone please revise the census ref. Bjenks (talk) 16:09, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- OK, no response so reverting. Bjenks (talk) 12:58, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
added information
[edit]Recently a police officer named came forward providing a detailed account of racism towards Aboriginals. According to his account the officers were referring to Aboriginals by racial slurs without any consequences from their supervisors in fact in some cases supervisors were also a part of it.Some of his testimony includes; 1) An officer investigating a 6 year old Aboriginal child's death due to a traffic accident makes comment about his death "dont worry mate, he is just a c..n"
2) One of the team sergeants texts his team members saying" make this Christmas a white one, kill an a.o"
3) An officer who finds a dead Aboriginal man in the street, who he deals with on a regular basis, takes a photo of the dead person from close shot and puts this photo on his police computers as screensaver where everybody could see in an open plan office.
---
here is the link to his story.

Several issues with the "Criticism" section
[edit]There are several issues with the "Criticism" section, including errors in spelling and grammar. 61.245.130.164 (talk) 14:18, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- Can you be more specific, please? Anyone is free to edit the article. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:24, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
- Having reviewed the section, I see that the likely main issue is this contribution under 'History of racism' by an IP editor, which simply does not meet WP standards and needs to be deleted (which I have done). Bjenks (talk) 15:06, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
