H1N1 er undirflokkur af inflúensu A og algengasta orsök inflúensu í fólki. Sum afbrigði af H1N1 sýkja menn svo sem afbrigðið sem olli spænsku veikinni árið 1918. Önnur afbrigði af H1N1 eru svínaflensa og fuglaflensa. Inflúensufaraldurinn árið 1918 dró 50-100 milljónir manns til dauða frá 1918-1919.
Í mars og apríl 2009 braust út svínaflensufaraldur í Mexíkó.
