Construction
[edit]Crane was ordered on 9 January 1941 under the 1940 Supplementary War Building Programme; she was laid down by Denny at Dunbarton, Scotland, on 21 October 1941. She was launched on 9 November 1942, and commissioned on 10 May 1943.
