The first film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), directed by Priyadarshan, introduced audiences to the world of supernatural elements blended with comedy. Starring Akshay Kumar as Dr. Aditya Shrivastav, a psychiatrist investigating a haunted mansion, the film became a major hit due to its unique blend of horror and comedy.
The second film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), directed by Anees Bazmee, revived the franchise with a new storyline featuring Kartik Aaryan as Ruhaan Randhawa, also known as Rooh Baba, who pretends to be a psychic. This film retained the comedic and horror elements of the first but introduced a new set of characters, connecting loosely through the mansion and themes of superstition.
