Suggestion Hi, I saw you create this page -- nice work! Just a word of caution, I'd urge you not to use the "submit your draft" button above. You're an experienced Wikipedia editor, it's much better to just "move" an article to the main space when it's ready, rather than submitting it for an unnecessary review. Check with me when you're ready to do that? (And feel free to delete this note once you've seen it) -Pete Forsyth (talk) 18:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Pretty Loud (original draft)

[edit]

Pretty Loud is a Roma rap group based in Zemun, Serbia advocating for women's empowerment in the Romani community.[1] The group began to form in 2014, when the all-female members started singing together as part of the NGO social program GRUBB[2] (Gypsy Roman Urban Balkan Beats). GRUBB's goal is to help young Roma women take their futures into their own hands, get an education, avoid the child marriages that are the fate of many young Roma girls, and get the same rights as Roma men. Now an independent group, Pretty Loud has been getting attention, especially in the European press.[3], [4], and [5]. Another interview appeared in the Albanian press[6]

In 2021 an article about them was published in a spate of newspapers in the US and Canada, including the Washington Post (June 22)[7], the San Francisco Chronicle (June 24) [8], the Greensboro News and Record (June 24) [9], and AP News (June 24) [10]. An article in The Toronto Star (June 22) gives a lengthier introduction to the group's dozen members.[1] The group has done a collaborative unit with the London College of Fashion[11], and in 2020 they participated in the Women of the World festival in London.[3]

The dozen members of Pretty Loud include a 19-year-old law student, a single mom forced into a child marriage but now raising her child on her own, a family of sisters whose father lives in Germany with his new family, and whose mother abandoned them (they now live happily with their grandparents, who "gave them the freedom to make their own life choices".
