Juan Gonzalez (born July 13, 1993), commonly known as ThatWasEpic, is a Mexican YouTuber, vlogger, and prankster. He is famous for his videos on social experiments and pranks.[1][2]

Personal Life
[edit]Juan Gonzalez was born in Cancún, Mexico. He was raised in Chihuahua for some time, and later moved to Kansas where he spent most of his life.[3] He comes from a family of 7 siblings, with him being the only son.[4] Before Juan became a full-time YouTuber, he was into Drywall construction. After hitting 10,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, he quit his job and spent most of his time making videos.[5]

[edit]Juan started his YouTube channel, ThatWasEpic, in June, 2014. His first ever video was published two months later titled "Dropping $100 in Public", which received over 200k views.[6] Today, the channel has more than 5 million subscribers and has gotten over 696 million views from different countries around the world.
Content and Style
[edit]ThatWasEpic is popular for making videos based on pranks. Many of his videos are centered on helping people by offering them gifts, money, and other forms of giveaways.[7][8] One of his videos titled, "Cutting People's Headphones, Then Giving Them Airpods", gained over 49 million views on YouTube (as of December 2020). ThatWasEpic was first recognized by popular TV shows and organizations like FOX10 News and the The Arizona Republic when one of his videos went viral. The video was titled, "Picking Up Girls in a Toy Car".[9] He was later invited for an interview with FOX10 News where he discussed the idea behind the video.[10] Juan features a series of videos in which he uses the comments of his viewers to carry out pranks on the public. One of many is the video titled, "Asking Dumb Questions in a Harvard Lecture", which got over 5.7 million views.[11] Aside from pranks, he also films a series of social experiment videos on his YouTube channel, while retaining comedy and entertainment for his viewers.[12][13]
AlmostEpic
[edit]Juan has a second YouTube channel known as AlmostEpic. Here, he posts videos containing uncut footage of his pranks and social experiment clips. He also features vlog content on this channel.
