I see. Glad to hear the part about you being back, it's certainly the best way to look at it. I must have slept through all of it though; did any onwiki discussion take place? Dorftrottel (harass) 15:51, March 31, 2008

Unconventional proposal to deal with Evolution vandalism

Hi there, I've become a little tired of this constant protect/unprotect, checkuser/block cycle. I've made a proposal for an interesting experiment here. You and Raul's comments as the people dealing wtih most of the checkuser requests would be most valuable in the discussion, so I'd be grateful if you could comment. Request for admin intervention

There is a dispute at Talk:Views of Lyndon LaRouche#Request for edit by an administrator. There are two self-proclaimed "critics" of LaRouche, Dennis King and Chip Berlet, who edit Wikipedia as Dking and Cberlet. They have posted a lot of subtly defamatory material, where whenever LaRouche makes comments that are critical of bankers or medieval nobility, they "interpret" these comments as veiled anti-Semitism. In the dispute in question, they go beyond this to the point of attempting to present their "interpretation" as fact, and they are resisting the proper attribution of an "interpretation" originating with Dennis King to King. Will Beback, who is an admin, has a long history of assisting them, and in this instance is attempting to deflect all discussion away from the issue of attribution, using diversionary tactics. I believe that this is an open-and-shut case of BLP violation and requires action without further debate. I am asking you to take a look at it. Thanks in advance for your attention -- Terrawatt (talk) 05:48, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for the message. I'll take a look into it, soon as I have a spare moment here. I'm not terribly au fait with the LaRouche stuff but I'll give it a go. Thanks again - Alison 21:01, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
An admin, User:Happy-melon, has agreed to make the requested edit if one other admin concurs. --Terrawatt (talk) 20:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi again, Terawatt. This is the first real chance I had to look at this in depth and it's my opinion that the paragraph either be edited as requested or removed in its entirety due to BLP concerns. I've weighed in over there as an admin and provided the second opinion that Happy Melon requested. Also, it looks like Viridae has come to the same conclusion. Thanks, and sorry for the delay in getting to it - Alison 00:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Russian WP and Irish towns

I was recently asked for an opinion on whether the Russian Wikipedia should go with the Anglicized versions of town names in Ireland or the Irish/Gaeilge versions. My response is here but I really think they need more input so I've posted to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ireland and I'm dropping messages to a few of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Gaeilge taskforce members in hopes that some of you might be up to helping on this. Hey, as you are a member of the Michael Jackson wikiproject I have some very important news for you. I will be nominating the Michael Jackson article for FA shortly and the Thriller album article is currently on the nomination list for GA. We need your help with both articles....

The Michael Jackson artice is currently on a peer review (which you can see on the articles talk page). It also really needs its references formatted correctly.

The Thriller album is going to be reviewed in the next couple of DAYS its sources need formatting.

These are the most important articles on michael jackson here at wiki, 2008 has been an excellent year for michael jackson, lets make it a good year for him here at wikipedia too. If these articles get a GA or FA statues it could make news outside of the wiki world. What a great way to celebrate the 25th year of MJ being the KING OF POP.

Please help with the sources of both these articles and in any other way you can. If you know any other people at wiki that might want to get involved let them know. Realist2 (talk) 22:30, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Potential checkuser

Hello Alison, you previously helped me with a sockpuppeting case that happened before and I was wondering if you could help. I'm not asking you to do a checkuser, if you did that would be your own judgement, but I am asking to see if the case would be worth writing a report for (and in all honestly, I just don't want to waste time filling a checkuser report that would be declined and I would prefer filling a report I know is going to be done). So if you could head to my talk and read over the thread Timmeh started, and telling me how much I have of a chance of getting a checkuser completed, that would be most helpful. Thanks, — Κaiba 23:12, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Alison, can you tell me the progress, if any, on this issue? Should I just make a checkuser request? Timmeh! 22:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi there, both of you :) I've checked here, as the evidence was compelling and have left a message on their talk page. I'd rather not reveal their IP addresses as it's not entirely warranted here. Suffice it to say that if in future, you believe they are logging out to evade detection, please just let me know as next time will likely result in a block. Thanks, and sorry for the delay - Alison 00:31, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You need to do a little more checking before you just go around throwing out false accusations. If you will look a little better you will see that the IP in question (you know the one I'm talking about) is not mine. You will see Landon1980 has only edited from that IP on three occasions. Now look at the other account that goes with that IP that edits from it on a regular basis. You should have seen that is NOT my primary IP, the vast majority of my edits are from my home IP. That is my brothers IP, and he made the statements using the IP, not I. I merely logged in a couple times while at his house. He is a Flyleaf fan as well, so he gave his opinion. I don't appreciate you slinging around accusations like that, and in a round about way revealing my brothers IP. It was not warranted for you to do that in this situation. Neither his or my IP have ever been blocked, or even so much as vandalised any article. While don't you show me policy that states I can't log in while at my brothers, and that he can't comment on something I am involved in from his OWN IP. You are a disgrace to the checkuser function. Landon1980 (talk) 03:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I also suggest you delete my talk page or do whatever you have to do to remove that irrelevant warning you left me. Too many people already know my brother's IP because of your sloppiness. Where did you come up with the edit war idea anyways, just pull it out of your ass? That IP is not involved in any "edit war" I have ever been in, as I have never been in one in the first place. I have never even came close to violating 3RR, you go ahead and call the IP in question mine hypothetically, still I did not violate 3RR on any article. This checkuser was not even requested properly, you had no business doing what you did. I mean come on, "they edit some of the same articles" There was no previous blocked or banned users involved, or any blatant evidence of anything for that matter. On one measely article we shared the same opinion, we are brothers you know. It would be different if that was the IP I use all the time, which it is not. Saying I logged in from there 3 times is really pushing it, had you looked you would have seen this. I know exactly how checkuser works, look again and you will the IP I made the vast majority of my edits from is not even similar to the one in question. Landon1980 (talk) 04:40, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

"Your brother", yes? And was it also your brother who edited from the other IP address on the same articles when the account was logging in and out? Also, I specifically didn't mention IP addresses in deference to your privacy, which is also the same reason a formal RFCU request wasn't filed. Seriously, there's quite a lot of logging in and out going on. That's more than covered under Wikipedia:SOCK#SCRUTINY - Alison 04:39, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello - very recently I was working on an author biography for Kristin Billerbeck - she is on the requested article page. This is the first time I have ever done this and as I was writing I hit save to make sure my work would be OK. Wait......this guy is a sock of the GM Minivan vandal? Can you link me to the checkuser that confirmed this? (I am going by the tag that checkuser triggered this) I just find it odd since I am his top target for attack, that he would create a sock to simply leave me a friendly message. Karrmann (talk) 21:21, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Karmann. There's no RFCU request because I ran the checkuser myself :) I'd been contacted by an admin that was familiar with the GM vandal and as I'd done checkusers before on the guy, it was pretty straightforward. And yes, that was a direct hit, too. Guess he was getting a good hand ready. Sorry about all that - Alison 23:15, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Its no problem. I assume that it was Gogo Dodo who gave you the tip, as he has been the one who has helped me out with this guy since he started creating socks and sending me "attack letters". He told me that the vandal has been IP blocked for six months, so I won't have to deal him until October. I hope he eventually grows out of it by then. If he comes back and continues his actions, that would mean that he has been doing this for a year, and then I wouldn't have any reason for believing that it would ever end. But no GM rules bull crap for six months.....yay..... Karrmann (talk) 00:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

This block

The user said it's a computer lab, so it's possible it could very well be a false positive to a sock farm. What came up when you did the CU? Kwsn-pub (talk) 21:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Alison.

I am the above user, and would like to disappear from Wikipedia, but unfortunately, am unable to since I have salted my password, and right to vsnish appears to require that the request be made from the user account.

I wish to do this because it was recently brought to my attention that sock puppeting activities had been taking place from my PC. I initially thought that this might be down to someone having piggybacked my wireless, but later discovered the work to have been two individuals who I had allowed to use my system under the pretence of other purposes, but who then seemed to have been editing Wikipedia under a raft of different usernames.

These appear to have started as good faith edits, but have later degenerated into some limited abuse of editing priveleges. I was recently reported to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check following an exchange between an anonymous IP and a user who I had clashed with in December 2007. This prompted me to wonder why I'd been reported, and I then discovered the sock puppetry activities, so I made a note of them. I was then reported to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Paul20070.

I then decided it would probably be best if I retired, and made a note of this in my userspace, and salted my password. I have since decided that I'd like to completely. However, I appear anable to do this.

I reported the sock puppetry in good faith because I think that sockpuppet editing damages Wikipedia's reputation. I decided to approach you because I know you to be a senior administrator who will make a fair and honest decision, and I would very much appreciate your help and advice.

Thanks. Paul20070 81.152.223.85 (talk) 09:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

"Likely" checkuser results

Alison, I was advised by AGK to talk to active checkusers. I was wondering if you could help me out with something.

User:Stone put to sky has had checkuser requests filed against him. As you will see four accounts were found to be "likely", but no action appeared to have been taken over them. Three stopped editing but were not blocked. But the fourth, Aho aho, continued to post.

Sky has been blocked for sockpuppetry, so if these accounts can be tied to him then that would show he is attempting to avoid sanctions. But he has also been accused of continual sockpuppetry by other users, so a lack of admin response has led to ill will. I would appreciate if:

  1. I could get clarification of what a "likely" report means and how they are dealt with/should be dealt with.
  2. Whether any action will be taken over the continued editing by Aho aho, the other "sockpuppet" accounts not being blocked, etc.

A recent report on the ANI page was pretty much ignored by administrators, even though a number of editors had comments to make. John Smith's (talk) 12:02, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

late reply

Hi Alison, I'm sorry for the late reply to your message. I must have overlooked it. Surely, an oversight on my part.

I know, very bad joke. Congratulations on the new position, Alison!

P.S. What's with the big text on your talk page? :o --Kyoko 16:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

To interject: the "big text" is likely my fault. What was here before looked like about 8 point (as compared with all the other pages on WP which appear to be about 12. Between the coloured background and the teeny-tiny text, I was having difficulty reading her page. Now, to me, it is about 10 point, still somewhat smaller than the rest of the pages, but legible at least. I gather what you are seeing is not what I am seeing. ៛ Bielle (talk) 16:37, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Alison's page is on my watchlist, so I saw your reply: I was just surprised because the last time I saw her page, the text was smaller. Now to me it looks like 14 point, maybe (I'm not good at guessing font sizes). --Kyoko 16:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
I suspect the size may depend upon your browser. I was judging the appearance of the size of the font on Alison's page in comparison with other user pages, and hers appeared to me, then, to be much, much smaller; now it appears to be just a little smaller. ៛ Bielle (talk) 18:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for coming to our NotTheWikipediaWeekly chat yesterday! If there's a better time for you please suggest it and I'll see what I can do. What a lovely voice you have. Sino-Réunnionaise

Hi Alison, if you have time would you be able to move Sino-Réunionnaise to Sino-Réunionnais? I believe the extra e is the feminine noun, so it is technically incorrect here. Perebynis (talk) 00:53, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm no expert, unfortunately but from GHits alone it seems like the current revision is actually correct. Thoughts? - Alison 04:42, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I think the GHits may be a result of Wikipedia itself, as they are in English, but the few pages in French use 'Sino-Réunionnais'. I think we can just leave it as it is though. Perebynis (talk) 06:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Check a potential sock?

Is it possible you could run a Checkuser on User:Goodandhonestwhig to see if this individual is a sockpuppet of Markanthony101? I have a strong feeling that it is, and as you've been involved in this case previously, I'm hoping you'll look. Thanks! SchuminWeb (Talk) 12:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Just wondering why User:MrsBucket was blocked? ps., please let Alison answer, ONiH! Thanks. --Counter-revolutionary (talk) 19:15, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Well? --Counter-revolutionary (talk) 08:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, indeed. Two accounts were blocked at the same time as socks of the banned editor, User:Rms125a@hotmail.com. Indeed, it appears I was mistaken, with RMS himself emailing today to clarify. He was quite irate! Right now, I've emailed the owner of those accounts and I await a reply. Given the circumstances and the matter of an autoblock of another editor, I'm holding off discussing the matter further - Alison 04:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Feh, does it really matter if it's 420 socks or 421 socks for RMS? One Night In Hackney303 04:47, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
It matters to him apparently, Hack. He doesn't like other socks being mistaken for his! Whatever you say about RMS, he's an honorable man - Alison 04:49, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Oi! I'm not Counter-rev! One Night In Hackney303 04:51, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Gah! Stupid autocomplete. I was hoping you wouldn't notice! :) - Alison 04:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I thought we've all been told check-user was infallible. How was this mistake made? It seems to me that this matters quite a bit. --Counter-revolutionary (talk) 08:13, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

←Because it wasn't a checkuser block. Simple answer - Alison 08:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, where was the evidence for the block then? --Counter-revolutionary (talk) 08:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
As I said above, I'm waiting for an email response from the editor who owns this account (and at least one other). Right now, I'm holding off discussing the matter further. In addition, I have lifted the autoblock from their main account so they're free to edit again. Now, I'm going to bed. It's nearly 2am here - Alison 08:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Let me say this much; this editor has used a sockpuppet account to pass comments on ANI regarding their main account. That's right out, per WP:SOCK. Like I said, I'm awaiting an explanation from the editor and depending on their answer, will proceed accordingly - Alison 08:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
So tired right now. I'll deal with this some more tomorrow - the autoblock's been lifted - Alison 07:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Right to vanish?

I had spoken to Viridae about this, but I haven't heard back from him recently. Given your recent promotion to oversight, II would like to know if I could exercise my right to vanish.

I would like for these things:

1. My account deleted or renamed and my signatures changed. 2. My user page and talk pages deleted and oversighted. 3. My contributions severed from this identity.

Once this has been completed, I would like for this message itself to be oversighted. Thank you, eszetttalk 20:06, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I've done my best with your account. Unfortunately, I'm not really allowed delete your talk page, nor oversight your edits without really good reason. In a short while, I'll see if a bureaucrat will rename your account as a courtesy if you are concerned that there may be privacy issues around your username. Let me know what you think! - Alison 04:53, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Truthnlove is back

Hi Alison. You should check out the Planck units page. I'm certain that Truthnlove has reincarnated himself as 'Palnot'. His style is the same - multiple, persistent edits without collaboration, a fascination with linear equations, irrelevant information etc. In fact, that page is so bothered by banned editors who reinvent themselves that you might start thinking about putting some kind of freeze on it - long enough perhaps for these tragics to develop some other obsession and go elsewhere. Thanks for being one of the adults at Wiki - God knows we need them! Lucretius (talk) 04:38, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Lucretius, thanks for that! As it happens, User:Palnot is not the banned editor, and is someone else entirely. Thanks for letting me know, though - Alison 04:47, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Alison, sorry to bother you...AgnosticPreachersKid (talk · contribs) had pointed me toward Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Leaveout, in which you found that user to be a reincarnation of an unspecified banned editor. After speaking to him and looking the contribs of Zencv (talk · contribs), I'm pretty certain this is the same user, based on contribs at Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Fitna (film), and other articles related to criticism of Islam. I also feel certain that Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/75.58.34.144 is related to this. Since you are familiar with that particular banned editor, would you take a look to see if this is related? If not, please let me know and I will follow the normal checkuser process. Thank you! Kelly hi! 20:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

As the editor who filed the .144 RfCU, please let me know how I can be of assistance. Currently, the anon has been noted in an AN/I complaint here. Again, if I may be of any assistance in catching a sock, consider me entirely at your disposal. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 21:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi from the anonymous user. The additions that I suggested and were contested were, Movie Credits in the Infobox, supporting Flagicons on a "Response" page and civilly debating a citation that was written in different ways on different websites. I'm surprised to see them compared to the poorly written Anti-Hirsi Ali and decidedly pro-Islamic writings of Zencv.
I'll suggest that the system is being manipulated to benefit a single users obsessive vendetta against another. I'm sorry that you must waste your valuable time and resources on such a baseless accusation. 75.57.196.81 (talk) 22:44, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I guess I am trying to figure out why he thinks posting the same message to anyone I post messages to helps him(http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Kelly&diff=prev&oldid=205660291 1], 2). Methinks he doth protect too much. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 22:52, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm civilly responding to your multiple solicitations...I feel that my response to your lobbying is appropriate and reasonable. 75.57.196.81 (talk) 23:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Er, might you be troubled to pont out where I "solicited" them, exactly? Does anyone I post a message to become my meat-puppet now? All I did, anon75, was to thank one person for forwarding a link to me and to offer my assistance to another in a problem they were investigating. If you are not this sock farmer being investigated, then you have zero concerns, and your claim that I am soliciting is therefore unwarranted and rather odd in its implication. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 08:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Alison. I just looked at User:Marinersrhymetime because he had left a message on User talk:R. fiend that was abusive towards Domer48.[3] There's a template there saying that the user is blocked as a suspected sock puppet of Vintagekits!!! Fair use rationale for Image:BIMLogo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BIMLogo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 14:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Vanadlisim and Personal Attacks

A user named tripjohnson in vandalizing and making personal attacks. I personally think his ip number should be suspended, but that is not up to me. We have had disagreements on articles but he has taken it too far. He undos most edits I make now (doens't matter what they are). He also made this comment to another user, I guess it was deleted or something but it can still be seen on past version of the American Revolutionary War talk page.

Lying? Where the hell did I lie in there? I wrote that line before I even heard of the site. Do NOT accuse me of lying with no evidence, you hypocritical twat.

Here is the page. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AAmerican_Revolutionary_War&diff=206064346&oldid=206016865

Report me, you can't block me for editing. It was you two who began this whole mess, not me. Oh and, learn to spell and use proper grammar before you actually make this complaint. It was Red and Plains who began this whole vandalism mess, by reverting articles without discussion, and you two have the cheek to call me a vandal! Damn hypocrites.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AAmerican_Revolutionary_War&diff=206017577&oldid=206016865

It was clearly a draw, as neither side held the ground, that just can't seem to go through that thick blinded patriotic naive skull of yours.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Battle_of_Harlem_Heights

Damn hypocrites. With you two it appears those who don't get a boner over the United States and those who disagree with them are wrong. I suppose you two are right and everybody else is wrong?

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AAmerican_Revolutionary_War&diff=206091601&oldid=206017743

Then he re-wrote his sentence

Lying? Where the hell did I lie in there? I wrote that line before I even heard of the site. Do NOT accuse me of lying with no evidence, you hypocritical twat.

I don't doubt it. However, that gives us no reason to mess about with his real name. I know what that feels like myself (points @ Mr. Brandt). The page should really be either deleted or courtesy blanked - Alison 08:21, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I seriously doubt that either will happen anyway. That board is getting to be like a broken record lately. "Who's this?" "What's her name?" "Is this Newyorkbrad's puppy?"—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 08:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm still on "that board" as, I see, are you. I believe in dialogue and I think a number of important points are made over there, and it's worth listening to and getting involved in. Alison,

I have no idea if I'm doing this right or not, but your user name was on the list of admins that could restore deleted articles. I am looking to restore the article Paul Teed, which I spent many hours maintaining, that was deleted quite unceremoniously. I feel the article satisfies the Wikipedia "professor test" for notability. If you can help, thank you, if not, please let me know who can. Once again, I apologize if you're not the person I should be writing.

Hi Chuck. Your article has now been restored to User:ChuckGreen/Paul Teed. Please don't put it back into main space, though, without addressing the problems it had (notability of subject). Thanks - Alison 06:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Alison. Major pest Polscience is back, now with new socks made at an industrial scale which I am having trouble in controlling. He's even impersonating other users now, such as blocked socks User:Mathcsi and User:Corticopio, whose user pages had been redirected to you can guess who. User:Kotlyarov reported those two on my talk page disrupting Borders of the continents and Asia respectively, but I suspect that Kotlyarov himself might be Polscience too. Could you please run the checkuser on User:Kotlyarov/User:Polscience, along with User:Inflia, User:Latouche, User:GiseleJ, User:Scholt, User:ColBowers and User:Yulma? Your help needed with removing personal info

I was reading your comments at WikipediaReview here and your actions here at Wikipedia on behalf of banned editor Jon Awbrey on the grounds that his ban is negative information that is linked to his real name and shows up in search results. You'll be interested to know that WikipediaReview published the name and location of my employer and that of two other Wikipedians, one of which received a poison pen letter to his boss. It all shows up in search results, too. Since you are very active and respected at WikipediaReview and concerned about personal and negative information being made public on the Web and effectively took the lead for Awbrey here and made a stand, I'm asking you for your help removing my personal information published at WikipediaReview. Contact me by email and I'll provide the posts to delete. Odd nature (talk) 19:22, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd love to help, and I promise to do what I can. However, you've no email address set so I can't contact you. Can you possibly email me, please? - Alison 23:55, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Could You Have A Look

Hi Alison came across this today have a feeling they are the same editor, USER:AAA2008 created his user page today with what looked like a test edit for Atlantique Air Assistance, it was then blanked by the author of said article, and I dont know if this is breaking any rules or not, but just tought I would bring it to your attention. I have tagged the article with COI tag and is the user name of the editor User talk:Atlantique Air Assistance allowed under wiki guidelines? thanks BigDunc (talk) 14:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, they haven't broken any rules or anything, so they should be just fine. I noticed you tagged that article, too. Good call! I'd say just keep a watch on the article, really, and be aware that there's a likely COI there (as you already are! I know :) ) - Alison 17:28, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, Alison. I wonder if you might agree with me that it would be fair and appropriate to unblock David Lauder's Talk page? What's sauce for the goose, and all that. (This is off my own bat, by the way; it may be that he's disappeared for good, which would be a pity in my opinion.) Yours, --Major Bonkers (talk) 17:20, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Done - note, however, that Mr. Lauder repeatedly abused his talk page having been banned[6], thus it may well end up re-protected if he continues in that vein - Alison 17:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
He definitely hasn't disappeared. That I can guarantee. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 17:32, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I know. I'm watching closely - Alison 17:36, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. If he used sockpuppets in the way described, and the evidence seems to support that, he was foolish and you certainly won't get me supporting that. On the other hand, he was also a productive editor who, by and large, kept his nose clean in the great Anglo-Irish edit war. Anyway; have a good weekend. --Major Bonkers (talk) 08:14, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Rfa thanks

Thanks for supporting my recent request for adminship which was successful with 89 supports, 0 opposes, and 2 neutrals. Unfortunately all I can offer is this lame text thanks rather than some fancy-smancy thank-you spam template thingy. I was very pleased to receive such strong support and to hear so many nice comments from editors whom I respect. I’ll do my best with the tools, and if you ever see me going astray don’t hesitate to drop a note on my talk page. CheckUser

I need help regarding my RfA in Telugu Wikipedia. I suspect that one of the voters is a sock puppet. But I don't know how to verify. Neither do the other admins in TeWiki. The user is te:User:మౌర్యుడు. My suspicion is based on the fact that his first edit is to vote in the RfA. I have a couple of "enemies" in there. So is it possible to check whether this guy is a sock or not? I mean can you use the CheckUser tool in other wikis too? Thank you very much. Σαι ( Talk) 01:48, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

You need to file a request on Meta. Alison has CU access on en-wiki only. Stewards can checkuser accounts on other wikis. miranda 03:02, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I think you should leave Wikipedia Review

I personally don't think you should be taking part in that site anymore. I understand why you (and I) once did, but at this point I find Wikipedia editor (and especially admin) participation there to be highly questionable. --David Shankbone 15:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

To be honest, David, I'll leave when I'm good and ready. Enough people have already badgered me about it and I'm still there. Right now, I'm rather jaded with WR, to be honest, and for a number of reasons. Blaming the site for what has happened makes no sense whatsoever. I know exactly where the blame lies, as do you. I'm wary of blaming the collective for the actions of the few and, funny enough, that applies just as equally to Wikipedia - Alison 10:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Return of the banned

Hi Alison. I think Amorrow has reincarnated again as Special:Contributions/64.174.82.210. He restored linear equations material to Planck units by means of an edit that looks all too familiar. I reverted the edit. Lucretius (talk) 04:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
