Fair Use

[edit]

Our policy is not based on "we won't get sued" but rather on our WP:5P founding principle of providing free content. Using a copyrighted picture when someone could create a free one often discourages people from doing so. I'm sorry if you disagree with this philosophy but it is our policy. ed g2stalk 21:43, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Citroen logo shouldn't be used "decoratively". There is already a logo on the Citroen article and that is the only place we need to use it. And as I've made clear before, whether or not the images are immediately availalbe is irrelevant to whether or not they are "repeatable", which is what is required. I welcome you to continue this debate, but if you insist on throwing your toys out of the pram, I can't help you. ed g2stalk 21:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The issue has been discussed a lot before (see WP:FU) so it's not like I've just jumped on your pictures and assumed myself to be correct without any knowledge of how the policy applies. ed g2stalk 21:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me again

[edit]

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner about the ancient Polish weights. I do have one question: which is closest to the modern pound? —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  22:39, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't blame you if you don't know. It was just a curiosity anyway. :) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  22:53, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sad

[edit]

I'll try to keep an eye on it, but I am sad to hear you do not like it here :( Please reconsider; I know it's stressing to find people who disagree with you, and others who are often uncivil, but leaving this project to them is a 'victory for the dark side'. -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  01:35, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who is that admin and what is the problem? I can mediate or help find somebody who would, and not to brag, I am a pretty active and experienced admin myself. I am in US timezone :) -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  02:14, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If your problem is about the images and fair use, welcome to the club. meta:Copyright paranoia is an evil we have to fight, but unfortunatly, the real problem is not the few overzelous Wikipedians, but rather the copyrighted world 'out there' that is trying to destroy our 'free culture'. Don't worry about a few images; while annoying, this is but a mild problem, at least, as far as I am concerned.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  02:34, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please reconsider, and try to keep the hot political climate back home from hitting you in the head :). Much harder with all the copyright paranoia, however... Pawel z Niepolomic 05:47, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
D'accord. Please reconsider. You have made great advances of ridding WP of OR and POV. Your work will and has provide(d) WP users reading about things such as the Talbot Tagora with the useful info they were looking for. I know what you mean when you say that you see your articles as a whole; I myself have spent endless hours creating templates and categories. Please don't be discouraged by one set-back with one particular out of hand WP policy. You are an asset to the Auto project and we'd really hate to lose an excellent editor like yourself. Regards Signaturebrendel 23:47, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bravada, ça va? C'est une jour triste. Ou est le "Requiem"? Seriously, don't let one setback turn you off. I've seen worse on various other sites (such as language problems), and I try to keep my cool. Perhaps that's one reason that I don't have wikistress. I channel it towards other things, like homework, GMi, et. al. If this were a private channel I could easily give you the "Prayer to Our Mother of Good Success" that I recently found in a newspaper, but since this isn't, oh well. Please come back (remember, GMi is already the same w/o you, d'accord ?). -Daniel Blanchette 17:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gone?

[edit]

I'm sad to see that you're not here, Bravada. I know you haven't been on Wikipedia for a long time because your sig on my page was redlinked. I'm not sure how to e-mail you, so this is the best way to contact you. Hope you have a happy New Year - The RSJ Sign my book|CCD 22:04, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year from me too. You are a great guy. I am so sorry you had troubles with some other people. IMHO you were one of the best assets of wikipedia: Neither the automobiles project nor DYK are the same now. I hope you get the chance to read this message and eventually come back to wikipedia. VW polo

[edit]

What do you mean edits that compromise wikilinks. I put up a totally valid picture of my VW Polo as the first example of that mark. --—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.111.169.120 (talkcontribs)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Land Rover Freelander (LR2).jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 20:13, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Best of Eurovision article

[edit]

The event took place in Hamburg , Germany. I know because I voted after clicking a link from the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest (http://www.eurovision.tv). Ruslana was named the BEST OF EUROVISION after receiving 71209 voted from the internet , the 12 points from the jury and also she was on the first place at the TV voting. Ruslana didn't commented nothing about this. She didn't claimed that she was on the first place. So the article should remain as before. That event took place. Also , on Ruslana's forums exists a topic about this where Ruslana's fans were announced to vote for her. Also , NDR's official websited had the poll results in "Interaktive" section.
