Correction of serious misinformation in James Braid article
Hi, I have requested that the title for the article on James Braid be changed from the inappropriate, misleading, and historically incorrect current title of James Braid (physician) to the appropriate and historically correct title of James Braid (surgeon).
On the basis that you have contributed to the current article in some way, I thought that you should know that the article will be moving within 7 days from James Braid (physician) to the appropriate and correct title of James Braid (surgeon) unless there is widespread, informed, and fact-based objections.
It would be helpful if you could express your support for the correction of what seems to have been, originally, an inadvertent error, at site of the discussion of proposal. Thanks, in anticipation . . . Lindsay658 (talk) 09:36, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

- Hmm, a very fine question, as yet unanswered. The meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything has already been revealed, but I'd rather know how long a piece of string is. Any ideas? --Cactus.man ✍ 18:56, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
requesting a copy of deleted article "Native Foods Cafe"
May I have a copy of the deleted article "Native Foods Cafe".Chibibrain (talk) 03:29, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, per your request I've restored the article for you to work on in your userspace. It can be found here: User:Chibibrain/Native Foods Cafe.
- Please make sure the article is fully worked up and policy compliant before moving back to mainspace, or it may suffer the same fate again. If it does, you'll probably have to take it to Deletion Review. Let me know if you need any further help. --Cactus.man ✍ 17:05, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Killin me softly
Was there a good reason why you modified Geograph image 62944 before you uploaded File:Killin Visitor Centre.jpg? A bot has now uploaded File:Killin Visitor Centre - geograph.org.uk - 62944.jpg. I think it is a better image so I am tagging your upload for deletion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- I can't remember modifying it, but I do see the difference. Perhaps the Geograph uploader changed it after the original upload date?? Thanks for letting me know anyway, no problems with the deletion proposal. --Cactus.man ✍ 14:39, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
(Your message brought here because I have linked to it from my speedy tag on the Commons.) Definitely you: a) I don't think Geograph supports re-upload and b) the image size is 628 × 467 - the Geograph one is 640 x 480. But why am I fussing? It is four years ago - you are allowed to forget! — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 15:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!
Hello, I hope you're doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this spiky intrusion. I've just read your profile and saw that you're proud to be a Scotsman (I went to Edinburgh not that long ago and I really appreciated the people and the wonderful place! Beautiful and really nice!), so I guess that being Scottish helps you understand what are an endangered language and culture and maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... I'm a member of a Catalan association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this hasn't been approved up to that moment. We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Supporting us will be like giving equal opportunity to minorized languages and cultures in the future! Thanks again, wishing you a great summer, take care! Keep on preserving your great culture, country and language! Mar sin leibh! Capsot (talk) 07:09, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your message Capsot. I'm very much in favour of supporting minority, endangered or suppressed languages and cultures, so I'll add the template to my talk page (I'm not a big fan of userboxes and the like generally, but I'm Ok with this one on my talk :) I visited beautiful Barcelona for the 1st time last year, which was my first brief experience of Catalunya. I now need to return to explore the rest!! Good luck with your project and best wishes. --Cactus.man ✍ 18:31, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:MacNair, The Gift of Doves.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:MacNair, The Gift of Doves.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Caegory: User: LINKELS Josy, painter from Luxembourg
Hello,
Would YOU please have the goodness to help me by userfying my article knowing that all my allegations are true and being a fan of Great Britain I WOULD STAY ON THE "en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Josy_LINKELS".Hoping that YOU could understand my wish I would be very pleased to get your goodwilling support. Please agree. BEST REGARDS from a painter coming from Luxembourg AND KNOWING THAT MY ENGLISH IS NO LONGER THE BEST.

- Hello, thanks for your message about userfying the above (which appears never to have existed with that spelling or punctuation). I've had a look at all the discussion on your talk page and the history of deletions and undeletion requests for the numerous varieties of article / category you have added about yourself, but I'll have to decline your request. Unfortunately, you either don't understand the various policies of the English Wikipedia, or you choose not to. Your additions of material about yourself have been deleted more than once, reviewed more than once and have always been declined for reinstatement. Continually asking the same question in different venues, and of different people, seldom produces the answer you wish to hear. I would recommend that you seek out an administrator or experienced editor who is fluent in French to help explain to you our policies and why your material has been rejected. Unfortunately, I am unable to help further with this as I do not posess an adequate level of French to have a meaningful discussion with you.
- You also still seem to have various copies / partial copies / remains of the materials in question littering your user space, despite having previously been deleted. As explained to you, most recently by Bwilkins above, this violates our notability, self promotion and conflict of interest guidelines. As such, I will be deleting your userpage again in line with our deletion policy Wikipedia:CSD#G11 and (arguably) Wikipedia:CSD#G4. The preamble text on your talk page probably also merits deletion, but is in such an indecipherable state at present that I'll leave it for now, pending more meaningful assessment.
- I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but please take my advice and seek an experienced user who is fluent in French to help guide you through our policies and guidelines. --Cactus.man ✍ 20:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Kardovsky, Portrait of Marya Anastasievna Chroustchva.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Kardovsky, Portrait of Marya Anastasievna Chroustchva.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:10, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Fixed, Public Domain image, no need for permissions. --Cactus.man ✍ 21:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
'File:Corsewall_Lighthouse.jpg'
Hi there,
I just came back from staying at the lighthouse in your photograph, which is the self catering property at Killantringan Lighthouse - I found your photo on the page for Corsewall Lighthouse and was thoroughly confused until I worked out there are two lighthouses close to each other on that stretch of coast north of Portpatrick: One is the decommissioned one, which you've photographed and uploaded, where I just stayed self catering. The other is Coreswall Lighthouse still operating as an automated light, as well as a hotel.
I have started a page for Killantringan Lighthouse, where your photo would be useful. Before I link to it in the new article, could you relabel the file with the name of the pictured lighthouse? To avoid confusion I've removed the photo from the page Corsewall Lighthouse.
Thanks
Splateagle (talk) 15:38, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your message re the image above. The original which I uploaded was sourced from Geograph here. I've looked at this image again, the links you provided and the many other images on Geograph for Corsewall Lighthouse and Killantringan Lighthouse. It seems pretty clear to me that you're right and the original Geograph image is mis-identified, and should be renamed as you suggest. Good pair of eagle eyes you have :)
- Though they're very similar, key differences are: the height and proportions of the respective lighthouse towers; the horizontal banding around one tower but not the other and the different forms of the two chimney stacks on the adjoining low buildings. The image has been transferred to Commons, so I'll move it to a more appropriate title of "Killantringan _Lighthouse.jpg" over there shortly. You should be good to use it in your new article soon, pending no uproar or reversion by Commons regulars :)
- Cheers --Cactus.man ✍ 21:39, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- UPDATE: Seems that I don't have the necessary permissions on Commons to move the file. I'll place a request for the necessary permissions and let you know. Failing that, a fresh upload to WP with correct info, or any of the other suitable images would satisfy your needs. --Cactus.man ✍ 22:08, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, I'll see if any of the pictures I took on my visit might be suitable for the article while you wrestle with permissions - hope it's not too problematic, if it is and you're able to remove the mislabelled file just go ahead and do that. Thanks! Splateagle (talk) 10:18, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- The file has now been renamed on Commons and is available at File:Killantringan_Lighthouse.jpg --Cactus.man ✍ 17:56, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I completed the move as you requested. I also took the liberty of removing the image from List_of_places_in_Dumfries_and_Galloway. If that was not correct please correct as needed. All of the usage of the old incorrrect filename have been replaced with the new correct name. --Captain-tucker (talk) 13:45, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for moving the file and the updates where in use, much appreciated. --Cactus.man ✍ 17:48, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
