re:Ravi Belagere
[edit]In my experience, it is typical for such tags to only remain for a couple of hours. But in truth, the tag isn't really that useful for articles that aren't high traffic (articles are likely to be high traffic if they have a lot of pages that link to them, if they are linked to from high traffic pages, or the subject of the article has been in the news a lot) or for articles that aren't more than a couple paragraphs long (because the smaller an article is, the easier it is to expand it, as there is less text already there to fit your expansion into.)
This isn't to say tags aren't useful; if you want to do some expansion on, say, Sri Lanka or spaghetti, such tags are very useful. But there isn't that much need for them on small articles, non-high traffic articles. Also, other editors who don't know what your plans are (like me, in this case), are likely to remove the tags because it doesn't look like such expansion is in the midst of happening. You can insert a hidden message in the article by putting it in brackets like <!-- these -->; in this case, it might be useful to use those hidden message brackets to make note of how long you intend for the template to stay. You can also use the talk page make note of pending expansions, and how long they will take. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Picaroon9288 00:48, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Three-Revert Rule
[edit]Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert a single page more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Karnataka is abode of its rich art, culuture and heritage. The Government of Karnataka has adopted a tradition of celebrating 'Nada Utsava' throughout the state, in order to rejuvenate and promote this rich culture and heritage and to inculcate the spirit and joyous feelings and respect about our heritage among the common man.
The monuments of Hampi are the replica of the then political, cultural, religious and social events of thrilling nature. The purpose of celebrating 'Hampi Utsav 2006' is to recollect and represent the the glorious rule of Vijayanagara Empire. The organisation of this Utsava besides providing the experience of rich cultural heritage of the region and the nation at large, also aims to provide joyous moments to the common man in the midst of pains and pleasure of his daily routine life.

Fair use rationale for Image:Kuvempu sign.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Kuvempu sign.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Orphaned fair use image (Image:PTejaswi.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:PTejaswi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Dravidian Wiki Project
[edit]Hello Gnanapiti,
I have visited the Dravidian people page and have to say, it is in a very sad state. For one, the page does not talk about the ethnicities and cultural heritiage of the Dravidian family group. Instead, it seems like it is discredits the Dravidian people and their existence.
Already, there is not much on wikipedia which goes into detail of Dravidian topics. So, I have come up with an idea. That is to form a Dravidian Wiki Project. The purpose of this project is to cover most every aspect of Dravidians in dance, literature, language, architecture, and more. This project will represent Kannadigas, Telugus, Tamils, and Malayalis. Also, Dravidian Wiki Project will also have wiki pages on other Dravidians outside of India like the Brahui of Pakistan, and the Malto of Bangladesh. I see you have an interest in Kannadiga culture and I would really like for you to be part of this team. Much Regards.

- By the way WikiProject Dravidian Civilizations is in the process of getting off the ground. We must work together to promote the different civilizations belonging to the Dravidian family of ethnicities and languages in South Asia. This could be a start to get our cultures known to the outside world since not much has been done in the past to promote them. Also, please take the liberty of joining our group at:
- Much Regards.

License tagging for Image:Chittani Dancing.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Chittani Dancing.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
RE:Carnatic Music
[edit]Hi,
I just wanted to explain that I was just editing that page (not deleting anything), but to add a little extra info on the originations of Hindustani and Carnatic music. I understand that anyone can sing Carnatic or Hindustani music, and especially in Karnataka and Andra Pradesh since both states are right next to Maharastra and other North Indian states. But, since you reverted it back to it's original state, I will leave it alone. : ) Wiki Raja 06:06, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Someone's nominated Gokak agitation for deletion. I've quickly added a bit to the article to help the debate along. --Mereda 08:40, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Gnanapiti,
- I was surprized to see AFD tag on Gokak agitation. I have asked for a speedy keep, and in the article I've tried adding the important and the basic information about the Gokak agitation and its components such as Gokak Report, The initial movement, Dr.Rajkumar's participation and leadership, and finally, the Government's response. Added the speech image as well.
- I will continue to seek more sources and see if I can get more information and images. Thanks a lot for creating this article! - KNM Talk 15:34, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment. Actually I don't know much about the person, and I was hoping you'd help out. I see that you've stated he's a well known playwright. Can you give a source, a news article, or a bibiliography for him, with references? Performance dates, any recognition, in fact anything more than we have right now would be great. Right now the article isn't very informative.

Havyaka Brahmins
[edit]Hi. I read the link and found it a bit confusing. I see the author has provided his sources at the bottom and thats good. Here is the part I dont understand.
"As Dr. K. S. Singh puts it, every community in India recalls its migration in its history and folklore and thus an Indian is a migrant par excellence. Historically, we Havyakas are the first of the Brahmin kind to descend to the present day Karnataka around 3rd century A.D., followed by other sects like Shivalli, Smarthas etc., who arrived much later, around 7th century A.D. However, the scientific school of thought places the date of our immigration back to about 1300 years ago. The Brahmin king Raja Mayooravarma was instrumental in bringing the first 30 or so families."
In the begining he says the earliest Brahmins to come to Karnataka were in the 3rd century. However he does not provide a sound citation. I am concerned about the term "Historically, we Havyakas" which makes it sound POV because he adds that scientific evidence puts Havyaka Brahmin migration around 700AD. The he says Mayuravarma was instrumental in bringing the first Havyaka Brahmins (in the 4th century i presume as that is when Mayura lived.).
The article is not clear and in some ways contradicts the three books I have sourced from. I hope you dont mind but I think we should remove the link for now. I shall take this as an opportunity to look for info on Havyaka's more in detail. What do you think?Dineshkannambadi 02:25, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Kannada script
[edit]Gnanapiti, The citation you provided for the Kannada page on the evolution of Kannada and Telugu script actually seems to be well referenced. I did not see this earlier. If you go to Lawrence Lo's "home" page and click on "reference" section, all his reference books are there. So though he not a linguist, his material is atleast well referenced. Sorry I did not see this earlier. The citation I added also refers to some extent to this web page by Lawrence Lo. I am planning on buying a book on this topic soon. thanks.Dineshkannambadi 15:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
