More sources
[edit]On Simon Wessely you added a {{moresources}} tag, yet you did not clarify on the talkpage what kind of sources you are looking for. This makes the presence of a tag a bit troublesome. Would you consider requesting sources on the talkpage first, and only adding a box then these are not immediately forthcoming?
I have responded to your questions on Talk:Simon Wessely too. If you are willing to mediate informally, an RFM could perhaps be avoided. JFW | T@lk 10:18, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Simon Wessely and sources of criticism
[edit]Hi Physics Dave (If you don't mind me calling you that. Great Name!)
I'm not trying to canvass you backchannel or anything like that! But I wondered whether you had had a chance to look at the long entries on the talk page of the above yet. I have also begun a new section setting out what I think should be done and how this differs from JFW, to try and simplify things a bit. I'm feeling that the atmosphere on that page is becoming more and more acrimonious. I and MEAgenda have resolved in good faith not to edit the page because of our Conflict of Interest, and have worked very hard at trying to maintain NPOV even though we both have openly stated POVS of our own, but I feel our good faith is not being returned, especially as the Gibson Report remains in place. I do think my proposal needs to be considered as a first step. Thanks for taking the time to look at this whole issue. Angela Kennedy 17:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Eva cross explosion.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Eva cross explosion.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:21, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I'm not sure that tag is the best solution at this point. There are 13 sentences, and 9 inline citations. Yes, the subject is not happy that we have written it, but he has not said the information is untrue. Please read the article, refs, and perhaps enter the discussion before tagging it so. - I completely understand, and am glad I wasn't crabby in my message to you. It's sad when you go from being a fan to being an adversary. I've given him the OTRS information, so he has a place to go where they can look at all the evidence and take appropriate action if required. He's emailed me 3 times now, and has now said he will be writing it himself, with help from his fan club. I'm glad you (presumably) now have it watchlisted--hagiography is not what we're after on Wikipedia. Jeffpw 19:02, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:FSM Pirates.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:FSM Pirates.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit]I think your approach here is generally very constructive, and it would be appreciated if you could swing by the talk page and inject some more common sense. Speedy deletion of Image:Penis ethnic.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Penis ethnic.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Penis ethnic.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Michael Palin - Pole to Pole
[edit]I left this message over on Commons, but I thought I should let you know here as well. Regarding the world map you created for Pole to Pole, could it also include Estonia, Belarus and Ukraine in addition to Russia? I started editing the map myself, then I found that the color scheme I had chosen didn't match yours exactly, and since you had chosen your scheme to span several Palin travel series, it's probably better for you to edit the maps yourself. -- Brhaspati\talk/contribs 02:56, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for putting the staff writers in the show/hide box, makes it a little easier to read and much easier to align. At last we can stick the infoboxes in their respective (UK/US) sections as opposed to having them stretching down the side. Barry Wellman
[edit]Dave, some anon IP appears to have a grudge against Barry Wellman. Perhaps someone whose paper was rejected, and figures that Wellman must have been the critical referee. In my opinion, the Barry Wellman article is perhaps the best one we have of a major contemporary sociologist, and I can't understand why it's necessary to pick at it simply because Wellman may have worked on it himself. Actually, the way I look at it, it's good for WP to have people like Wellman here, and we should try to avoid creating a hostile environment for them. Anyway, just trying to explain why I have a different opinion than you. I understand that articles should not be self-promotional, but Wellman really is an important academic, and the article doesn't exaggerate his importance.--Anthon.Eff (talk) 20:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Wrong. No rejected articles. Just can't stand self-promotion on what is supposed to be an impartial encyclopedic entry. It just goes against the spirit, and regardless of the "importance" of the individual it is not appropriate for them to edit their own entry in a way that turns it into a CV as opposed to an encyclopedia entry. 64.171.57.60 (talk) 06:25, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Template:BLPC/doc

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Biographical infoboxes: Explaining why they aren't used for classical musicians
[edit]Hi. We'd be grateful if you didn't place biographical infoboxes on the pages of classical musicians. Popular artists are of course OK, just not classical ones.
The guideline at the at the Classical Music project says: "Current consensus among project participants holds that the use of biographical infoboxes is often counterproductive on biographies of classical musicians, including conductors and instrumentalists." This was written after a centralized discussion in which many editors took part (see archives).
The bio infobox used for Simon Rattle was one specifically designed for popular musical artists' (e.g. 'associated acts' etc.) not classical musicians. If you look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Infobox you will see this is "used on a non-classical musician's or musical ensemble's page" . Thank you for your cooperation. -- Kleinzach (talk) 06:26, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Bob - the March 23 article is covered by a larger discussion that's been going on at Wikipedia talk:Centralized discussion/Removal of many individual date articles. Thought you might like to have a look at that before the AfD discussion goes any further. Grutness...wha? 02:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi H2g2bob: I reverted the recent edit you made to the Osprey article, because the species, genus (Pandion) and family (Pandionidae) articles are one and the same; the latter two are redirects. (This is because the Osprey is the only species in both the genus and the family.) Self-referencing articles via redirects cause all kinds of problems, and should be avoided! : ) Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this... Eurovision template
[edit]Sorry, me, the one who requested the optional fields, reverted because I just wanted the fields to be optional, not the whole infobox to look different. Sure, your way is a lot easier to use and edit, but that's not what the WikiProject Eurovision wants the box to look like. Grk1011 (talk) 14:21, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]It's all very well giving me a warning for PA. But are you completely oblivious to the user streona. Seriously POV pushing has a COI. Accuses everyone on the discussion page of being BNP,Nazi and or racist I mean I was called a hardline racist for simply telling him to grow up and get used to people having different opinions. Streona fails NPOV, declares himself anti-fascist, has said he hates the BNP. The archive contains his numerous rants including an early one where he threatens to create mounds of dead BNP members. He baits other users with insults and slurs and has been referred to as trolling on other articles. Seriously has Wikipedia no ability to block him from editing the page. Would it be appropriate for someone with a interest in attacking this party to be contributing to it (I mean you can't get around this happening its a wiki but he is open about it).
This is one reason I don't create an account with wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.3.132 (talk) 03:29, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I have taken exception not to be being told that others have a different viewpoint, but to being told that I should leave England and move elsewhere for supporting mixed race relationships as well as having a mixed race child. Mr. 58 seems to have a long memory for someone who only logged on a few days ago, but he obviously uses different anonymous identities. I have not to my knowledge been referred to as a troll (except on Conservapedia, quite wrongly as it happens. Mr. or Ms. 58 etc. has claimed that the Australian government wants to force him/her to have sex with non-Europeans in order to have brown babies, which will dilute racia; purity, yet s/he objects to being called a "hardline racist". If thjese are his/her views, then why is that an insult. Were the BNP to take power in the UK I do believe there would be violence and I for one would resist, along with many others. If other contributors cannot stomach my put-downs after calling me a "multi-cult fascist", threatening me with being tried for treason, or calling me a "twit", then perhaps they should not make such personally abusive attacks. I have obviously been more effective by keeping within wiki guidelines than outside of them. I fail NPOV but I am not an article on wikipedia. So does MartinUK, who is also quite open in his sympathy towards the BNP and to racism, but I can respect that. --Streona (talk) 11:36, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
