Happy editing! Sahaib (talk) 20:57, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sahaib,
I'm sorry for my delay in getting this note out. I'm learning the hard way about all this. I thought I was being helpful and making mindful edits with appropriate new links. Little did I know I was not. I thought the more links the better? I've been shut down and/or blocked my user Graham87 I believe. As far as I can understand I've been banned permanently. It's upsetting to see that because I've never been band or prevented from trying to help something in my life. I'll be 60 in December. I had no idea of all the extra process and layers to Wikipedia. I truly never intended to disrupt, cause problems or any kind of rework for anybody. I honestly thought I was doing okay. If I didn't know how to do something I stayed far away from it. But the thought that I've caused multiple Disruptive Edits is very unsettling to me. Truly it is. I figured out how to make the years and months hyperlinked July and the next user could click on it and learn all about that year and what happened. Little did I know that this was an example of being a Disruptive Editor. Again, I'm truly sorry for the problems and issues I caused. I can't figure out how to send a message to Graham87? He's obviously a Master at Wikipedia when I look at his profile. Twenty + years I believe it says he's been involved. I'm going to send an apology response to each of the people that edited me on this list. I didn't know these messages even existed? I wasn't ignoring them. Your message Sahaib about the Tea House, Task Center and the Sandbox are very helpful. It's my own fault for not knowing about them before hand. Now that I've been band for life indefinitely I guess it doesn't really matter for me. Hopefully other inexperienced participants can see this reply and avoid the same ending. Again, I'm very sorry for the errors I made and problems I caused. If I knew how to delete my account I would. Take care Sahaib and many thanks. ☺️ Jamiroquai sundae (talk) 16:17, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jamiroquai sundae, I'm glad that you have finally found your talk page and are reading the messages that we've been leaving for you. Please note that an indefinite block is not a permanent block; it means that you are blocked until you can convince an administrator that you understand why you were blocked and that the problems won't happen anymore. Please read through all of the links that editors have left for you in the messages here. When you feel confident that you can edit in accordance with those policies and guidelines, you can open an unblock request. Be sure to read the guide to appealing blocks (linked in the block message as well) before writing an unblock request. Schazjmd (talk) 16:26, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Schazjmd,
Thank you so much for the speedy reply. I truly appreciate it. This has been quite a learning experience. Yes, I'm in the process of finding the notes that have been posted to me. I will attempt to learn how to navigate through the pages of Wikipedia but I'm not sure I'd ever try to edit anything ever again. I would hate to cause more issues or rework for somebody. Many thanks for your kindness, direction and understanding. ☺️ Jamiroquai sundae (talk) 16:53, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are continuing to make statements on this page that you are "permanently" blocked. Since I've already explained that you are not, and also explained what you need to do next, it bothers me that you are continuing to misrepresent the situation.
Please stop posting and apologizing; just read the information that other editors have linked you to. When you feel confident that you can edit in accordance with those policies and guidelines, you can open an unblock request. Be sure to read the guide to appealing blocks (linked in the block message as well) before writing an unblock request. Schazjmd (talk) 20:41, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it's unnecessary to add "British" to British-born persons for obvious reasons. Please read WP:INFONAT, thanks --FMSky (talk) 11:53, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your gift of guidance. I will follow up to nail down the proper way to document. I'm terribly sorry if I caused any escalation issues or rework. Please understand I'm deeply sorry. Jamiroquai sundae (talk) 06:13, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Meters. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Geir Isene, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Meters (talk) 06:45, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so sorry Metersdz. My intentions were never to cause you or anybody else harm. I really thought I was helping and now I understand what I did was wrong. To be honest I didn't even know about this page and your comments until the other day when I was blocked. That's when I looked around more and found these messages. I'm so sorry. I'll never edit again. I'll try to take some kind of class to learn how the process works. I'm so embarrassed that I've been blocked for "disruptive editing" on my accounts. I truly did nothing with malice. Everything was done with positive intent. Again, I ask for your forgiveness. Jamiroquai sundae (talk) 13:24, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Katia Mann, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page German. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 05:49, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Françoise Bettencourt Meyers. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Please read WP:OVERLINK. Your edit to this article has been reverted because nearly every wikilink you added was unnecessary. Too many wikilinks is just as bad (if not worse) than too few. Schazjmd (talk) 14:14, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for the message. I'm learning the hard way that my edits were made incorrectly. I can't tell from your note what edit I did wrong but that's okay. I've made plenty apparently. I've been permanently blocked by Graham87. This whole time I thought I was doing okay. Boy was I mistaken. I didnt know this page existed before yesterday. So I'm going through the messages to let everybody know I wasn't ignoring you. I didn't know this was here!
Sorry for the rework. It was never my intention to mess up like this.

Hi SelfSkewed,
Thank you for the kind note. I did not know overlinking was inappropriate. I'm learning a lot since yesterday when I noticed I have been permanently blocked for Wikipedia revisions. I'm sincerely thought the more hot links to a words definition in an article the better. I've been blocked by Graham87. I'm probably double his age. I feel terrible. Anyway, thank you for your guidance and help. I hope I didn't cause you a burden correctly my changes.

Hello Jamiroquai sundae. Regarding your multiple edits to Ally Sheedy, (1) you added citizenship that was unnecessary per WP:INFONAT, (2) you made edits reflecting your incorrect position of Sheedy's "involvement as an LGBT activist" when the article had one sentence out of 50 some odd lines that reads "They have a son, Beckett, born in 1994. Beckett is a trans man from whose transition Sheedy says she "learned a lot"" and which position was contrary to MOS:LEADREL and WP:SDNOTDEF including WP:SDCONTENT, and (3) you added the prior name of Sheedy's son that was not supported by a reliable source and against Wikipedia's presumption in favor of privacy per WP:BLPNAME. These edits were not constructive, were apparently not researched as to Wikipedia dictums, did not have reliable sources, were disruptive, and were reverted. Although you have only been editing since May 10, 2023, you have at least 499 edits and you have had the time to educate yourself about Wikipedia precepts especially before making edits. Others have repeatedly notified you of prior problematic edits. Before making edits, if you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia rules, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Repeated disruptive editing will result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you for your attention, Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 02:59, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir, I'm so very sorry for what I did under Ms. Sheedy's Wikipedia's page/account. Please understand it was never my intent to cause disarray and rework. What I've learned about Wikipedia I picked up on my own or studying other well known contributors. Please accept my most sincere apology to you and the others in your roll who have had to back out my updates.
I realize by having my account listed as "Blocked" with no pending return date that I have been forever banned from returning to helping with Wikipedia. I will surly miss it. Other than these errors there are other posts I am very proud of. Hopefully those updates will remain and be helpful for many years to come. Thank you for your time and I truly apologize for the error and confusion it must have caused.
Best regards,

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abuse of editing privileges.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Graham87 (talk) 06:11, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have not shown that you have read any of the messages on your talk page. Despite being pointed to Wikipedia's overlinking guideline, you have continued to add excessive links to articles like Maria Montessori. Despite the many warnings about adding links to disambiguation pages, you have continued to do so. Your unusual editing pattern plus the prolific nature of your editing has given me no choice but to block you. Graham87 (talk) 06:11, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, way up above, you were pointed to the guideline about nationalities in infoboxes but your recent edit to Katherine Jackson went against this. Wikipedia should not be bent to your edicts regarding formatting. Graham87 (talk) 06:57, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's occurred to me that, since your edits have been tagged as having been made with the IOS mobile app, you might have more difficulty getting messages (see our page on mobile communication bugs). A major condition of your unblock would be that you pay much much more attention to Wikipedia messages; as Wikipedia' is a top ten website, messages there are vitally important (especially considering your prolific editing). That might mean you switching to web editing or even the desktop site. Graham87 (talk) 07:44, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Much more concerningly, despite previously being told not to add links to months and years, you did it again anyway at Gwen Walz. I don't understand your thought process in doing this at all; did it never occur to you that most other Wikipedia articles aren't formatted that way? Graham87 (talk) 08:44, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also of great concern, edits like this one, where you added text not at all supported by the reference ... do you not understand what reference markup is? That's a basic skill for editing here. Graham87 (talk) 11:41, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also This edit, where you added distinguishing marks to someone's nonbinary pronoun, is just ... not cool at all. I guess it says everything that it was quickly reverted without comment by Bobamnertiopsis; it strikes me as offensive. Such useage is also considered offensive by this guideline ... and there was this relevant case with the UK media watchdog. Graham87 (talk) 08:52, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike the referencing mistake noted above, I can't come up with a valid explanation for this edit to La La Anthony. I'm becoming less and less certain that you're here in good faith. Graham87 (talk) 09:20, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Graham87,
I'm very sorry that I caused editing issues and rework for you and the others. It was never my intention. It was my own stupidity that I thought I was adding value and doing the right thing. Long before I ever tried editing a page in Wikipedia I've been a long time crusader for the site by contributing financially and purchasing merchandise to help support it financially.
You've permanently deleted me and for that I am sad and upset. It was never my intent to cause you such anger and hostility. It's easily sensed by your tone in the later messages. I wasn't ignoring you. I did'nt even know about this page before yesterday when I learned I was deleted. I've gone through to each message and explained my lack of understanding about the process. Wrong or right, that's the honest truth. Even though there's no excuse for making edits that are knowingly wrong or questionable, nothing I did falls into either of those categories. After going through this experience I question why doesn't Wikipedia force the person to sign off and make them sign back in which could then trigger the user to see all these messages? I'm sure the technical team can somehow divert or push the user a popup that warns of the issues at hand and to action them or risk deletion?
Like I said earlier in this reply and to all the others who messaged me. I'm sorry for my mistakes and my incorrect additions or deletions to the individual pages. It was never my intent to cause you or any of the other publishers corrections or rework. I thought adding more links to a page would be helpful to all the readers to expand their knowledge into other pages of the site that they did not originally type or click on to read or learn about. As for your operation that I look at Wikipedia via my mobile phone, you are correct. I do not have a laptop or desk top. I use my iPhone for everything. If I would have seen your messages regarding links for months and years I would have stopped immediately. And no I do not know what reference mark up is? I will now but I didn't before. Why is it so easy to make these changes when you don't even know if the user has the knowledge or skill to make them. Why wouldn't a user be forced to walk through these educational pages and make a change that goes into an approval queue to someone like yourself to then verify and approve or decline the update? Since I made these errors I've looked through many of these screens for the first time and I can see I'm not the only one making errors. I see some people create multiple accounts and sole purpose is to cause problems by updating derogatory, nasty, advertising or just plain incoherent entries that then have to be backed out. I see some of these entries get their posters cut off for a short period of time and then they get their privileges reinstated. Every situation is unique and I get that, but my updates were never done in malice or intentionally wrong. I take full responsibility for assuming that I was doing was thought to be correct when it wasn't. That's on me and i'll own it. If reference markup is a basic skill for editing then the system should insure the user has it mastered before they are given editing capabilities. Now I know that's bigger than you but it only makes sense. How much rework could be avoided if things were edited correctly in the first place. Quite a bit! That's something you should forward on to a corporate employee. If seen your profile, you've been involved in this for a long time. You've been recognized and given multiple recognitions and acknowledgments. I'm sure they would listen to some of these ideas coming from you.
Lastly, you have no right to imply or question my commitment or the LGBTQ community is anything less than 100%. You don't know me personally or professional. All you know is that I made Wikipedia edits outside of the guidelines. For you to question that I am making edits in an insensitive nature is just plain wrong and inappropriate. I meant no bad intention to Jack Ferver regarding his pronouns. I love "Berries and Cream, Berries and Cream, I'm a Little Lad who loves Berries and Cream!" He's iconic! The idea of using the pronoun "They" for a singular being is sometimes easy to miss in text. Sir, I'm a 60 year old gay man and I still am not 100% on all my pronoun and gender terms. I'm the first to apologize and explain the error in my ways. We've come a long way from when I started out. To change from "Does he or she want a drink?" to "Does they or them want a drink?" Is very easy to make a correction on when reading it in print vs hearing the words spoken and with context. But hey, I'm sorry that I offended you or anybody else. It was an innocent mistake. But before jumping to conclusions have the conversation with me.
Jumping to a conclusion before knowing the full story leads to problems. Try not to be offended by something until you've heard the whole story and can make a sound decision about it. Nothing I've said or done gives you or Wikipedia the need to be offended. If I was going to offend anyone they would know. I've read your reference about La La Anthony and I honestly don't know what you are trying to say or imply here. Her entire page is nothing but advertisement for herself. I was watching TV and she was a guest on a talk show. I honestly had no idea who she was? So I looked her up in Wikipedia. That's when I realized her page was just a lot of nothing. It's propaganda. Then I'm listening to the interview and I learn she didn't go to college. She applied and that was it. Her page looked like she graduated. What I updated was the fact she didn't finish college. She didn't even attend if my memory serves me right? She enrolled and then never attended. That is not attending college nor should she be allowed to imply she attended and graduated. Her Wikipedia page was written by her public relations team. However, if you are vaguely implying that I made edits because she was born cis-gender and has since transitioned, you're really barking up the wrong tree. I have no cares about what she identified as previously or what she identifies with now. That's her business, not mine, not yours and especially not Wikipedia's who you're having this conversation with me on behalf of.
Sir i'll let you go. You have a choice. You permanently deleted from your site. After hearing from me and listening to my expirations you can leave everything the way it is or you can reinstate me. If you were to reinstate me I will not make a single edit until I've worked my way through the tutorials. I will use and learn about the "sandbox" for updates. I may even go buy a "Wikipedia for Dummies" book at my local bookstore. But I'm not going to do all this if I'm permanently banned. What's the point? I could also run all my future edits via you and we can become friends through all this and you'll learn I'm not a careless and non-rule following person. If you knew me you'd know I'm a very compliant rule follower. That's actually why I thought the La La Anthony page was so wrong. I worked very hard for my degree and I'm sure you did too. Fabrication has no place on Wikipedia. We have enough fake news in the world today. Especially in the US. I can't believe it's any different in Australia where you are. Anyway, I apologize I digressed.
Let me know your thoughts. Thank you for allowing me to explain myself. If I didn't care I would have deleted the App and moved on.
Btw, my name is John.

Hi John, there's a huge amount to unpack here, and I have limited time at the moment, but I'll try to get at the main points. As noted above, indefinite is *not* infinite ... the reason I set the block to indefinite was to make *sure* that you wouldn't be able to edit until you received the messages left here.

I'm conflicted about how I feel about your future editing prospects. You seem very earnest and willing to improve and I don't think the wiki would break if I were to unblock you ... but at the same time I'm not sure how suited you are to editing here. For better or worse, Wikipedia was originally designed to be edited on a personal computer by people who were familiar with HTML (the markup language used to make webpages) and many successful Wikipedia editors largely figure out how to edit the site on their own, without close mentorship (see the editor reflections project ... which also demonstrates that many editors prefer not to edit on mobile platforms here). The VisualEditor is an attempt to make editing easier but has its own set of problems. The closest thing to a "Wikipedia for dummies" book I know of is Wikipedia: The Missing Manual. I appreciate your previous attempts to support Wikipedia by donations and purchasing our merchandise, but the Wikimedia Foundation already has quite a lot of money and a famous essay here claims it has cancer.

Re talk page messages: another thing I notice is that you don't have an email address set up (see our help page on email confirmation). If you did, you'd get email notifications about talk page messages, among other things. Also, your replies are probably not being seen by the intended users; Wikipedia has a system for that called pinging. The only reason I noticed your recent messages was because of an edit to the [[Maria Montessori page on my watchlist that reminded me of you. I've just added this talk page to my watchlist so I'll get messages more quickly from now on.

Re your edit to La La Anthony: the problem with it and the reason I reacted so strongly is that text on Wikipedia must match its sources and your edit really wasn't helpful in that way. The cited ref on that article says she attended college for three months, so I changed the article to say that. Her article says nothing about any gender transition; perhaps you're getting her mixed up with someone else? Graham87 (talk) 03:42, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

Hi,

I've unblocked your account because it seems like you are sincere about learning how to edit Wikipedia. Before contributing to any more articles, please use the resources that others have pointed out to you so you can become more familiar with how Wikipedia works. I would recommend starting with Help:Introduction, which has a lot of good information about different parts of Wikipedia and how to interact with them. You've also been linked to Wikipedia:Teahouse which is a great place to ask questions as a newcomer. Always remember to check this talkpage as well, since people will use it to discuss your edits. I agree with all the advice above. Good luck. Graham87 (talk) 13:16, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank Graham87. I'm going to do all the things you suggest and refrain from making and updates directing. I will keep you posted. I apologize for the errors that I made and the trouble it caused. I promise you nothing was done to intentionally harm or discredit the site. I'll update my account with and email via your link. I will keep you posted on my over progress and how I've learned and grown from this experience. Thank you for trusting me. I won't let you down. My very best regards… Jamiroquai sundae (talk) 12:10, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. @The Wordsmith: was the admin who unblocked you. Graham87 (talk) 14:12, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
