Prodigal son

[edit]

Thank you for your input on Ekayana. I have just seen the text you added to the "content" section of the Lotus Sutra. The "content" section is at present a very rough description or enumeration of some core doctrines/teachings of the LS which is mostly unsourced and lacks a systematic presentation. Your mentioning of the similarities of the prodigal son story with the story in the bible does not really fit there and I think it does not improve this section. Sorry, I hope you don`t mind that I have removed the text. The article Parable of the Prodigal Son/Similar Parable In Mahayana Buddhism might be a better place to explain the difference (!) in the meaning of this parable in the context of the Lotus Sutra.

See also these interpretations:
Lai, Whalen W. "The Buddhist" Prodigal Son": A Story of Misperceptions." Journal of the International Association of Buddhist Studies 4.2 (1981)
Opening the Heart of the Cosmos: Insights on the Lotus Sutra , pp. 37-42.
Shinjō Suguro, Daniel B. Montgomery (1998), Introduction to the Lotus Sutra, pp. 51-56
The Soka Gakkai Dictionary of Buddhism, entry: parable of the wealthy man and his poor son:

"The rich man in this parable represents the Buddha, whose sole desire is to let all people enjoy the same sublime state as his own, just as the rich man wishes to bequeath all his wealth to his son. The poor son represents ordinary people, who "wander about" transmigrating in the threefold world without encountering the one Buddha vehicle. To lead them to enlightenment, the Buddha first employs expedient means and preaches what is appropriate to their capacities, just as the rich man trains his son gradually. Thus the Buddha leads them gradually to higher teachings and ultimately reveals the one Buddha vehicle of the Lotus Sutra." JimRenge (talk) 09:49, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pratītyasamutpāda

[edit]

Thanks for uploading the figure about Paticcasamuppada. The figure is nice, but the resolution of the jpeg is rather poor. Could you please upload the figure in a higher resolution? Do you have the file in a raw format to edit? Thanks in advance No I don't have a higher resolution or raw format because this is a scanned image. You can re-edit if unintelligible to you.Kalakannija (talk) 11:55, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
