Hi!

Hi, as one of the editors busy here with validation, I am certainly interested in the request you posted at the talkpages of the chemical infoboxes (and I am sure others as well).

What we have at the moment: we have a whole list of articles with validated ChemSpiderIDs, StdInChI's, UNIIs and StdInChIKeys. If we can link outside data to that, then we can add or update those other external data directly to that (and add it to the articles where needed, and keeping track of that). If you can provide me with a list of ChEMBL numbers directly linked to any of these identifiers, then we can in principle start integrating that information.

Questions, a) what is the difference between ChEMBL and ChEBI? Does that mean we get to different identifiers on some/most articles? b) can you provide a similar list for ChEBI? It would be nice to incorporate both ..

If I can find the time, I will prepare the drug and chembox for having also the ChEMBL numbers, and check upon the display of ChEBI.

I adapted the chembox and the drugbox to allow for ChEMBL (and added ChEBI to the drugbox as well). Examples: Paracetamol and Caffeine. Feel free to add others.

Just as a note, I would like to make you aware of our conflict of interest guideline. I do however believe that your approach is fully in line with this guideline, so I would not worry about it.

Another note: if you have access to IRC, you might want to drop in at #wikichem on freenode. We (editors involved in Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals/Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology/Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry - especially those involved in the validation work) sometimes come together there (especially on Tuesday's, late in the afternoon, UTC, but some, like me, hang around there more regular). License tagging for File:StructureWay181187.png

Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Drugbox and edit summaries

Hi there, I just moved the drugbox you added in Sodium fluoride up a few lines, so it appears before the lead of the article. Your edit produced this result. As you can see, the page lay-out was destroyed. So would you please (1) show a preview before you save your edits and verify the final result, and (2) always provide an edit summary for your edits? I would actually not add both a {{drugbox}} ánd a {{chembox}} to one article. Both are mutually complementary, all fields in the drugbox can also be handled by the chembox (and all drug-related fields of the chembox can be handled by the drugbox). You might want to have a look at {{Chembox Pharmacology}}, which can be added as a module to the {{chembox}} (find a free section number, and add section# = {{Chembox Pharmacology | (all the parameters you need) }}. I looked at the layout for NaF drugbox and it looked fine. I added the drug box as NaF has been used in a therapeutic way, according to our biological data. Commons?

Hi, I see you uploaded some structures to Wikipedia. Have you considered uploading to Commons instead? Images here can only be used by en-Wikipedia. Images on Commons can be used by all Wikipedias in the world. You might like the following link...

Assuming you have started a commons account (you can do that with a unified account - see WP:SUL), It will give you a perfect structure upload page, with the main edit to be the file name and the name of the molecule in the description box. Sorry the link is not clickable - too much wiki templates (but it is on this page - commons:User:Ronhjones. Hi, I this something that I definitely must to do to continue creating structures for pages or are you just suggesting that I use this link? I just want to make sure as I have conflicting advice. Chemical structures

Dear Louisajb. Thank you for uploading chemical structures.

But please have a look at this help site. Your structures are for non-chemists misleading, as the hardly understand the meaning of (R) or (S) at the same position as the carbon atom. In addition, black and white images are quite fine, colors only at rare circumstances.

Thanks for the tips. However, the colour comes automatically from the sketcher that I use and I think that it is useful to show the different atoms in the chemical structure. Also, my structures are not 'misleading' and that page you pointed me to says that stereo SHOULD be shown and by having the (R) and (S) on the molecule, it helps people to understand exactly what conformation the compound is in, rather than having to look through the IUPAC name and working out the numbering system. Do you think that just showing a wedge or dashed bond is any more clear for non-chemists? Additionally, why would non-chemists be looking at the compounds? If they are not chemists, but biologists or pharmacists, then they should definitely understand what (R) and (S) are, as it is important for what they do. If they are neither, then it won't matter to them or a simple internet search will help them understand but I will take your suggestions under consideration.

Hey Louisajb, thx for your answer. As for

1) the colors: the idea is that simple black and white has benefits for disasbled persons or if someone is priting it with a b/w-printer. In addition, the more different atoms are shown, the more tricky the color finding will be (yellow will be e. g. not suitable).

2) "stereo SHOULD be shown", of course, this is what I have done, too. But not in the way, that (R) and (S) are depicted in a special way, especially in place of the carbon atoms. I have to agree: non-chemists won't neither understand those wedges/dashes nor the (R) and (S) in the formula.

BUT: We should take the style of drawing what one can usually find in textbooks (or internetpages). And for my experience, wedged/dashed bonds are dominating.

What I would like to say is that after years we have a kind of common style here on wikipedia. This is benefitial and a the result of some discussions and time. I would have appreciated being given more than 6 hours notice to add information to this page before it was deleted. To send this information to UK users during the middle of the night and then to delete it in the early hours of the morning is inconsiderate - I am sure that you understand time differences and having the chance to enhance the page before deletion would have been a decent thing to do. Stereochemistry

I'm confused by your edits to Miglustat, among others. Your edit summary was "changed structure to show stereo", but the previous structure there, File:Miglustat.svg, does have fully explicit absolute sterochemistry at every stereocenter. And even more, it also illustrates the likely conformation of the ring rather than it being a flat hexagon. Could you clarify what the problem was with the original? There was nothing 'wrong' with the original. Although the cyclohexane chair/boat conformation is one way to represent the structure, the most common way that these structures are drawn are with the stereo on the bonds themselves, rather that stereo within the ring. This also applies to the other compounds I have been editing. It is better to show the stereo on the functional group bond rather than within the ring as I believe it is easier to visualise. Consensus for increasing image size

The structures that I have enlarged were rather small and it was difficult to see any stereo or the intricacies of the compound. I enlarged them for ease of viewing. There seems to be no consistency with structure sizes in Wikipedia. Louisajb (talk) 07:14, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Ticagrelor

There was nothing 'wrong' with the old one, but it had the stereo in the five-membered ring, rather than on the bonds coming off it which can sometimes be hard to determine the overall stereochemistry from. The most common way of representing this structure is how I have drawn it (do a Google image search on the name). Additionally, it was drawn in ChemDraw and, as far as I am aware, does comply with the rules. I have just read through the page you linked to and I cannot see how mine is in contravention to that. It is a valid chemical structure, drawn with valid stereo bonds. Louisajb (talk) 10:14, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi... Regarding the image File:Ostraminsky.svg shown in the 1,3-butadiene article, I was wondering if you would correct it and upload an updated version? The equation is presently unbalanced - two H atoms vanish - and this is because it shows two ethanol molecules combining whereas the Ostraminsky reaction actually involves the condensation of ethanol and acetaldehyde. I would also suggest adding "Ta/silica catalyst" over the reaction arrow and "325-350 °C" below the arrow to show the conditions under which the process occurs. Thanks. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
