Mark Saul

I've never heard of Mark Saul, but then there are a lot of people I haven't heard of. But he doesn't have a page on Wikipedia as of yet. While lists such as List of Celtic fusion artists are fine to add redlinks to, I question the wisdom of comparing a redlinked musician to Martyn Bennett on the Celtic fusion page. My warm suggestion would be to write a page about him, then he wouldn't be redlinked anymore, and it wouldn't tickle me the wrong way at all. Unless you ARE Mark Saul, in which case there's a lot that's not so okay (in my book, and I think Wikipedia's) about adding oneself to multiple pages. If that's the case, I would refrain from writing a page about yourself (they tend to get reverted/deleted), and not link to yourself until someone else has written an article about you. Whatever, whether you are or you aren't Mark Paul, the general wisdom here is: 1. seldom add redlinks 2. don't write about yourself.

Weil done, though, with the re-alphabetizing of the list page. I can never decide whether to alphabetize by first or last name. Last name is better, generally, except when things are listed with first name first and thus sort that way. Then it's a dilemma, by me. But yes. OK, off hand I'm really not sure I'm doing this message right ... but roll up the sleeves and give it the old-try, right. That said...

Thank you for the note, GlamdringCookies. As with my preceding line, I'm a newbie here, and I don't totally know what I'm doing & how -- I only established my profile a few hours ago ... so if that makes me one of those slobs on the net that gets on somewhere and makes a boob of themselves for not being an expert, well, guilty as charged ... besides, I'm hardware.

I am neither Mark Saul or Mark Paul (I have no clue who M.Paul is -- go fish?!?) ... but Mark Saul does exist and he rawks-it like M.Bennet(did) -- and from my limited interaction with him and what other pipers in the world community of Highland bagpiping have shared with me about communicating with him, he's an awfully nice guy. Unlike The Great Pumpkin, I don't make this stuff up -- see for yourself -- http://www.marksaul.tv/ & http://www.myspace.com/marksaul . Sure, I may be the bastard in the theatre who kills Tinkerbell for not believing and not clapping hard enough, but I believe M.Saul *DOES* exist (the vote is still out on M.Paul tho) -- just about to release his 2nd album via Greentrax(.uk?).

SO... being a newbie, I tried making an article on him. It existed briefly, got redirected to some Wiki-page about a game show having nothing to do with M.Saul (to my knowledge), and then it disappeared all together. I tried getting the ball rolling with a bit of writing and the same two links as above, but then things disappeared entirely. I don't denigh that I didn't read the 8-volume e-book "Zen & The Art Of How To Do Every Durn Thing On Wikipedia"... which probably means I'm a bad person who's armpits should be infested by the fleas of 1000 dhiaretic camels. While I appreciate the warmly given suggestion, and have thought of writing about the self-titled First Sex Symbol Of Highland Bagpiping (aka myself), I don't know how to do what I'm trying to do here and could use help -- I can't apparently write about myself just the same as I can't write about Mark Saul ...or, that other guy.

Wise or unwise to add redlinks -- maybe yes/no -- trying to get the ball rolling tho, IMO yes. As for comparing Saul to Bennet(RIP) -- not my interest -- would I say however that they have worked in the same area ... based on my 14yrs experince playing Highland bagpipes inc professionally for the last 10 and my personal enjoyment and some playing/recording of the Celtic fusion genre of music ... are they classified in the same area, you bet! As for my other edits, yeah, go by last name -- as for trying to do (eg) "Real Mckenzies, The" vs "The Real Mckenzies" or "Duncan, Gordon" vs "Gordon Duncan" -- well, the earlier makes the auto-links not work, but otherwise for normal alphabetizing, yes when dealing with the name of a person as opposed to a band (so what do you do with eg Fred Morrision Band -- not sure).

Sorry for snapping at you, but I was suspicious of a new user coming in and making wide edits. I checked out the Mark Saul links you provided, and he seems really awesome. In regards to your page about him disappearing, it's possible you either misplaced it, wrote it poorly to have it deleted shortly by a patrolling grammarian, or violated some element of Wikipedian rules, such as copying content from other websites. I recommend checking out the help section; it's got a lot of nice info. Also, just be aware that while a colloquial style of writing is fine on talk pages, articles are expected to be encyclopedic, and should be a little more formal in nature. Never felt you snapped at me, but thx (apparently I did function the act of replying here correctly) -- just trying to get the "ball rolling" on a Wiki-representation of a fellow who's established a name for himself in the alternative-Celtic scene for such a long time, let alone is as so accomplished in the purist scheme of things too. Given the seeming lesser number of truely (IMO) Celtic-electronic musicians -- this as opposed to techno-types that sample other Celtic musician's work, wreck it, and forgo the spirit of the content -- MSaul I believe has every bit of musical credential folk like MBennet had, not to mention genius, and well rightly ought to be represented here.

There are some of us in the Highland piping scene who look at (French?) bombar(sp?) bands and feel that if we don't do more within our music, we're going to get left in the dust -- not that you can fight that sort of change from happening, however MSaul has made compositions (eg Hellbound Train) that is of the charactre that would (worst case scenario) keep the Highland bagpiping community afloat in recognition if things came to that. This guy is an important player -- really to say one of many -- and the peers of his level in our community have representation here in most/many cases ... so I say this shouldn't even be a question of "why not?"

Currently, if you go to MSaul's web site, he indicates that he's looking to release his 2nd album Oct07, and provides two complete MP3 downloads of tracks to be on that album. Listen to his work, listen to MBennet's offerings on his site, read-up on MSaul and then tell me he's nothin' but a fan boy sleepin' on his mom's couch.

If I was MSaul, I'd be able to write more about myself -- and clearly I can produce if not write. Wish I was him writing about myself, er, him -- I'd be a better piper than I am. Once I do something worthy enough in the Highland piping community, I'd be quite amused to find someone wrote about me here on Wiki -- which is possible, I'm workin' on it -- but until such time I guess I'll be a Wiki-mystery with respects to Highland bagpiping. Gordon Duncan

I've had to delete most of Gordon Duncan, as it read like an obituary, and was a copyright violation from his tribute page. However, I'm keen on re-building the article to a better standard, and although I don't know a huge amount about the bagpipes, I think you may be able to help me. I can find out a fair bit about the gentleman, as my partner knew him very well, but I can't put it into context because I don't know the terms used. Having played for +/- 30 years I have that ability. Considering that I haven't logged in to Wikipedia since .... uh .... ??? and now I'm quite busy, I'm maybe not the most ideal candidate.
