Your user account
[edit]Hello again Novelshelf. I see that Novel Shelf is the name of a website, and that your user page indicates that this user account is run by that website. Could I just ask, is there more than one person using this account? Wikipedia actually has a rule that only one person can use an account, so if more than one person is using it, they will need to make their own accounts. Have a look at the Wikipedia username policy for the details, and let me know if you have any questions. Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 00:06, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
Reply from NovelShelf to Mr. Stradivarius 00:06, 18 April 2012
[edit]No, I am the only one using this account and managing NovelShelf. My goal this summer, although lofty, is to bring short stories and novellas back into prominence. I find it odd that in today’s culture of 30 minute and 60 minute shows on T.V., and youtube clips, which are meant to placate our short attentions span’s that writers have difficulty publishing -- if their books aren’t 500+ pages. Some of our greatest works, those that we hold in high esteem, are no more than the length of a novella. Albert Camus, for example (in today’s publishing environment would have never ((my opinion)) gained notoriety with “The Fall”.) NovelShelf’s goal, and my personal goal, is to bring these powerful stories to the forefront. Now, that is opinionated, and I understand that wikipedia frowns on the introduction of opinions – but it’s not my intent to ‘bleed’ into the articles I create, but just to create them and let the readers choose for themselves. As a published author I'm passionate about short stories and novellas. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.19.59.100 (talk) 04:51, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- That's a very impressive goal, and I look forward to seeing the articles you create! It sounds like you would do very well to join WikiProject Novels, which despite the name is also devoted to covering short stories and novellas. I'm sure that you would be very welcome there. Also, if you're going to be creating lots of articles on books, make sure you read WP:NBOOK, the notability guideline for books, as you may find the articles deleted if they don't meet the criteria. (If this happened, it wouldn't be anything personal, it's just the Wikipedia system.) And now that you have an account, it would probably be a good idea to always log in to it when you edit, lest you be accused of sockpuppetry. Wikipedians are all supposed to assume good faith, but it does pay to be careful with these things. Finally, yes, Wikipedia does frown on promotion, but as long as you can keep the articles written from a neutral point of view, then I don't think anyone will complain. I wish you all the very best with your editing here. Yours — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 06:26, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
Your contributed article, The Open Window H. H. Munro
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, The Open Window H. H. Munro. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Saki#Short Stories. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Saki#Short Stories - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. TheLongTone (talk) 15:23, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen (Novelshelf) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.
There are two issues with this:
- It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
- Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.
Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is Daniel Defoe. Thank you.}} Dori ☾Talk ⁘ Contribs☽ 06:08, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
