Thank you for creating this article, but it leaves me wondering "Why should we have an article on this person?" Most of the article seems appropriate for a family history website but not for an encyclopedia - he existed, had a family, and so on. I'm not familiar enough with military ranks to know whether being a Brigadier General might be a claim to notability in itself: if so, the lead sentence should be on the lines of "Gustavus A. Smith (1820-18nn) was a Brigadier general of the US Army".

Please also note that personal testimony from family members (or anyone else) is not adequate sourcing for Wikipedia. All content must be sourced from reliable independent published sources, either print or online. If this person is a member of your own family, please read WP:COI on "Conflict of interest": you should not be creating articles about your own relations - if they are notable enough, someone else will do so. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey. Happy Editing. PamD 16:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Gustavus A. Smith has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability - Brigadier General is a one-star rank, main source is family member.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
