I must inform you that a Peace Officer with a (carry) status is not limited to the Uniformed Court Officers of New York State. Most New York State Clerks were Court Officers, and those who were not Court Officers are identified clearly with a NO GUN ID printed across their ID. They must complete a Peace Officer Training Course which is rarely given and not taken advantage of by the most of the civilians. A promotion to Clerk is similar to a promotion to Detective, shields are similar and security of the court room is their main objective. Many years ago the test was not available to those out of uniform, but in order to equalize the ranks of clerks (male/female ratio)they made the test available to civilian personnel. Which has proven to be the demise of the respect of the title. Any Police Officer familiar with the court system knows the power of the Clerk. The Problem comes with Police Officers not in the habits of making arrests and knowing the workings of the court system. A Clerk will always oblige to the Police Officer and their schedule due to the fact they are Officers as well, the problem comes with the NO GUN Clerks.
