Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Catholic-Hierarchy.org

[edit]

Hello. I noticed that you have edited a number of articles on Catholicism. A discussion is taking place as to whether the website Catholic-Hierarchy.org is a reliable source that can be utilized on Wikipedia or whether all references and information derived from it should be deleted. This topic is currently being discussed at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [1]. As the website's removal as a reference will affect several thousand Wikipedia articles, I believe that the broadest range of opinions should be obtained before action is taken. Please contribute if interested.Patapsco913 (talk) 22:07, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata

[edit]

Be careful of using wikidata, you might replace a historical seal over a current one as you did in the Ilocos Norte article. Wikidata does not allow images under fair use where most seals and some flags are uploaded under this clause in the English Wikipedia.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 17:54, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the reminder and info. I will keep that in mind. Sanglahi86 (talk) 19:55, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927:, technically, Wikidata doesn't host images. It merely links to Wikimedia Commons, which does have a policy of no-fair-use images. But the rest of your statement stands. —seav (talk) 00:17, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Sanglahi86, I've fixed those two. Please let me know if you spot any more. I will also try to do a search for any other occurrences.

Hi Sanglahi86, I've done a search of over 2,500 towns, cities & provinces in the Philippines, but have been unable to find any further occurrences of this error.
That is not to say that there are no more. If you do encounter any, please let me know, I would be very keen to know.
Best regards -- Marek.69 talk 16:19, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your diligent efforts. I was only worried assuming it might have been done in all 81 provinces, which would be a very tedious task to do manually (since I do not know how to use AWB). Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Most Played Songs". The reason given for Most Played Songs's block is: " There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. Accept reason: Appears that this was handled below. Just a note - while it may be unrelated, it isn't entirely unjustified. The software placed this block because for whatever reason you've used the same IP recently as the blocked user (lot of legit circumstances this can happen). I was surprised to see I was autoblocked and could not make any further edits. Upon seeing the stated reason for the autoblock, I do not know how my IP address was used by User "Most Played Songs". And I don't know how his/her user contributions show up as the same as what I had done. Please unblock my account as it may have been hacked in some way by the said user. Thanks Sanglahi86 for updating Philippine articles with the 2015 census data. Please use Wikidata if you can to update the info, see Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines/Archive39#PSA has finally released the 2015 census report. An examples of linking to Wikidata and adding the 2015 census reference is this edit for Vigan.

And when you update the province articles, can you also update the population rankings? You can find the new rankings at List of primary local government units of the Philippines (still being edited, I still have to update the density rankings). If you have any questions, let me know by leaving a message on my talk page. Thanks again. -- P 1 9 9   17:04, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Regarding the use of Wikidata, I had noticed on several province articles that both {{PH wikidata|population_as_of}} and {{PH wikidata|population_as_of}} shows the old 2010 population figures, so I merely replaced the template with the actual 2015 population.
Also, it appears the population figures in some provinces infoboxes are hidden when using the above-mentioned templates (I preview-tested it in Capiz and the population info was not displayed).
I also tested in the Capiz infobox using {{PH census|current}} under the | population_footnotes parameter but the source template was not displayed at all. When replacing it with {{PH census|2015}} though, the source was correctly displayed, so this is what I used.
Yes, I had left the ranks untouched since the province/primary LGU table/s were not yet updated at that time. Thanks for updating the primary LGU table, I will use it in updating the population ranks.
Also, I will try checking if both {{PH wikidata|population_as_of}} and {{PH wikidata|population_as_of}} templates work correctly in some provinces. Otherwise, I would (temporarily) use the data figure itself instead of the templates, until you might find a better solution since I am not very familiar with the intricacies of Wikidata. Sanglahi86 (talk) 17:58, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Sanglahi86. The issue is the same: there is no data yet at Wikidata. Obviously if the population data is not yet at Wikidata, or the "point in time" and "determination method" qualifiers are not set, then it creates blanks or takes the old 2010 value (if it is there). I updated the Wikidata entry for Capiz, and restored the links. It works now. The advantage of linking to Wikidata is that we don't need to touch the WP article next census, only update Wikidata. Thanks. -- P 1 9 9   18:43, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining. I had forgotten a lot on how to edit at Wikidata after having been away for several days. I will then not delete the templates from the articles, and I might update their Wikidata item if I have enough time. Sanglahi86 (talk) 19:17, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. If you need help for Wikidata, let me know. The density rankings have now also been updated at List of primary local government units of the Philippines. Regards, -- P 1 9 9   19:40, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tables

[edit]

I have to say you are doing a great job updating all the tables of various provinces. It's just too full of data, if I may suggest to retain only the

  • 2015 population census
  • land area and density per sq km.

I think previous data like the 2010 population, population growth rate, and area and density in sqm can just be used in the respective article infoboxes of those political divisions. -- Namayan (talk) 09:35, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am still in the process of updating the tables. I agree the tables are full of data, but I think they (previous population and growth rate) are useful enough to be included so that they can be displayed in a single sortable table (for comparative purposes). Besides, the growth rate needs the previous population figure, and the growth rate shows how a city or town is increasing in population. Number of barangays don't take too much space, and coordinates point to the city/town center (sorted from north to south and vice versa). Plus, the coordinates are even more useful through the GeoGroup template in the external links section. Clicking on "Map all coordinates using OSM (OpenStreetMap) displays the town centers of all LGUs in the province using OpenStreetMap (a feature more advanced than WikiMiniAtlas); useful if you want to see an uncluttered map (unlike WikiMiniAtlas). If the tables are too large, we may add the collapsible collapsed option so that they are collapsed by default. Sanglahi86 (talk) 09:59, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree the number of barangays should be retained. Population growth info are LGU specific and could be used well in converting their infoboxes into templated in Wikidata, so it updates across all WP projects. My suggestion mainly is to help new editors be comfortable in updating the tables too when the time comes. -- Namayan (talk) 02:14, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is extremely tedious manually updating these tables. It would make future updating easier if a table similar to these was made into a template (a "table template") to reduce excessive text in the Edit window. But, I am not familiar with the complexities of creating templates (even more if it involves several data such as those in tables). For now, I can only update and standardize the province tables manually to have their code consistent with the others. Sanglahi86 (talk) 20:42, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sanglahi86, since you made the file, please update the map. The Negros Island Region is now defunct.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 16:51, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have added a temporary note in the image map template while the map image is still outdated. Unfortunately, I could not find the file I used to create the map, and it appears I will have to start from scratch, but I am quite busy right now and I do not have the time. The good thing is that I directly used the image uploaded by Scorpion prinz at its original resolution of 1,000 × 1,560 pixels, in anticipation that future changes in the image will not affect the image map's coordinates. Since Scorpion prinz' image contains the correct colors for both Negros Occidental and Oriental, the problem lies only in the map labels. If you have the time, could you please add the map labels yourself as I really do not have the time to do it now. Thanks. — Sanglahi86 (talk) 08:54, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Table styling

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you made [this edit to {{Philippine cabinet}} some time ago. I created that template in hopes of making a start at getting the tables used in articles about the Philippines to move towards a standard format more in line with my reading of MOS:Tables, though I have not moved forward very far in that. I see that your edit seems to disagree with MOS:Tables#Appearance, where that says, "In general, styles for tables and other block-level elements should be set using CSS classes, not with inline style attributes." Even though I've found in the past that the selection of existing CSS classes is pretty sparse and seems not well supported (as an indication of that, I note "Please put a list of existing classes here." at Help:Cascading Style Sheets#MediaWiki existing styles), I'd prefer to either stick with what is there or to work towards extending what is there. Your edit summary on that template edit says, "Formatting fixes." That fix, as done, would be applied over whatever skin is being used (probably the current default of WP:Vector). Do you think that the table formatting in the Vector skin is so badly broken that it needs repair? If not, what would you think about a revert of your format changes to this template? Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 18:11, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please feel free to revert my old edits on that template as I have not been away from Wikipedia for quite some time and am unable to regularly edit due to real life situations. The only portions I hope would be preserved are the col and row scopes for accessibility. Thank you. — Sanglahi86 (talk) 02:48, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Only 1 pushpin for LGU's

[edit]

Hi Sanglahi86. Thanks for your efforts to Philippine-related articles. But for LGU's, MOS:PHIL requires just one pushpin map (that of the entire Philippines). That is because the regional Luzon/Visayas/Mindanao maps show nothing extra over the national map, nor have any added detail. In other words, they are not really helpful.

And BTW, you have also been adding links to PhilAtlas. Is that actually a reliable source? There is nothing on the website about who publishes it and their credentials...

Regards, -- P 1 9 9   16:09, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Sorry, I only added those additional pushpin maps to add more detail, and also as both Indian and Indonesian cities also have their own regional maps. Malaysian cities even took it needlessly further by Asia and Earth maps. Luzon and Mindanao may not be of much help due to the effect being a little zooming in, but I had thought that Metro Manila, Visayas, and Palawan regional maps were quite useful due to more zooming in and added map detail.
As for PhilAtlas as a reference, I agree that it may not be a very reliable source. However, the elevation was mass-uploaded by User:Exec8 in Wikidata, which included the site as a reference URL. The template {{PhilAtlas detail|reference}} I recently created checks Wikidata if the reference URL of the elevation is from PhilAtlas, then only adds the citation if true. As the elevation data is currently displayed in all infoboxes, I think the citation should be added, unless the elevation itself is removed from all Wikipedia infoboxes.–Sanglahi86 (talk) 01:35, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, some editors really go overkill with the pushpin maps. Just because we can add them, doesn't mean we should...
I think it may be better to have a centralized discussion at Tambayan whether or not we should use PhilAtlas. -- P 1 9 9   14:07, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it should be discussed further with other users. Kind regards. –Sanglahi86 (talk) 19:54, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@P199:: Hello. In the meantime while a discussion has not yet been initiated and a consensus not yet reached, I will continue adding the elevation citations. I have integrated the template {{PhilAtlas detail|reference}} into {{PH wikidata|elevation_footnotes}}, which I will be using in order to make future changes easier. Regards. –Sanglahi86 (talk) 01:06, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive editing at Ferdinand Marcos article

[edit]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Ferdinand Marcos, you may be blocked from editing. You have been engaging in disruptive cite-tagging of valid RS, and deleting well-cited content as "superfluous content"

Your deletion edits may have also broken a number of citation links.

Please see Wikipedia:Disruptive editing

Unfortunately, before accusing me of disruptive editing, the page Ferdinand Marcos contains a lot of serious issues; issues which were not even tagged so as to appear like nothing was wrong, and I wanted those issues to be resolved. Those "reliable sources" you claim are made by mostly one-sided advocacy/partisan groups, academic papers, opinion and editorials, and books published by a relatively unknown publishers. One publisher of a book you claim as reliable even did not have its own website, and merely used a Facebook page, which had users posting mostly anti-government sentiments.
Your arbitrary mass deletion of those tags and restoring those "superfluous information", most of which is undue weight and sourced by questionable sources, is very disturbing.–Sanglahi86 (talk) 04:35, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What of it if a book does not have a website? So what if publishers are relatively unknown? Are those against Wikipedia rules? Also please cite specific instances of Undue Weight in the article. As per WP:UNDUE -> "Giving due weight and avoiding giving undue weight means articles should not give minority views or aspects as much of or as detailed a description as more widely held views or widely supported aspects." -Object404 (talk) 10:11, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also what do you mean by one-sided? Is something "one-sided" and "partisan" if it's on the side of historical truth? -Object404 (talk) 10:17, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"merely used a Facebook page, which had users posting mostly anti-government sentiments" -> are you referring to this -> https://www.facebook.com/MarcosMartialLawNeverAgain/ ? If so, I looked at the last 20 posts which span over a year and "mostly anti-government sentiments" is a clear falsehood. -Object404 (talk) 11:01, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kindly check my response at the article talk page. Regards.–Sanglahi86 (talk) 15:48, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The problem is the existence of PhilAtlas elevation at Wikidata, not my addition of {{PH wikidata|elevation_footnotes}}. Right now, while elevation data are still existing at Wikidata and currently displayed at infoboxes, it is just proper to add citations where the data came from. Kindly remember that {{PH wikidata|elevation_footnotes}} code is usable in the future, and can be edited later on to remove PhilAtlas links once PhilAtlas elevation data are deleted from corresponding Wikidata items.–Sanglahi86 (talk) 07:35, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sanglahi86, no, simply no. The problem is the use of unreliable data on WikiData that we re-use. The correct mode of action is to find the correct elevation data from a reliable source and use that, likely overriding the WikiData information. If you do not find a reliable source you either tag it with {{citation needed}}, or even, remove the data. What you are currently doing is intentionally ignoring a consensus, and basically evading the blacklist. Dirk Beetstra T C 08:04, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your insight. I shall initiate then the deletion of such elevation at Wikidata to end this issue.–Sanglahi86 (talk) 08:10, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sanglahi86, no. That is equally disruptive. Dirk Beetstra T C 08:25, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed tags

[edit]

Hi Sanglahi, really appreciate your finding of sources. Could I ask that when you add them in the place of cn tags, or within uncited text, that you maintain tags in a way that separates the uncited information from the cited? For example, in this edit, you added sources to support "Aquino's administration also saw the pullout of the U.S. bases in Subic Bay and Clark." However, the preceding "high inflation and unemployment, and natural calamities, but introduced land reform and market liberalization." is not covered by these sources. (I assume, I can't actually access the Washington Post source, can you check the url?) Similarly, you added sources for the death penalty, but not the APEC summit. In these cases, if you duplicate/move the relevant cn tag, that would be quite helpful in keeping a record of what items in the article still need checking. Best, CMD (talk) 14:16, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I also have a list of shows and series that he voted for me not to be deleted and someone also helped, I hope you can help me thank you. --7starunited (talk) 13:29, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Manuel Roxas from list of Quezon Service Cross recipients

[edit]

Hi, I would like to know why you reversed my edits on the Quezon Service Cross page where I included President Manuel Roxas as one of the recipients of the Quezon Service Cross, despite the fact that I cited my source: Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines Vol. 52 No. 7 (July 3, 1956). Making Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines and its subpages more responsive/mobile friendly

[edit]

Hi! Just wanted to get your thoughts on making the project page and its subpages more mobile-friendly, based on the edit where you removed the float style for the statistics table at the Assessment subpage.

I too would like to make the page much more mobile-friendly but it does seem tricky to make sure that it would actually be responsive for wide screen users (desktops, laptops, tablets) as well. Like when you removed the float style for the table, it did leave a huge space when viewed on a wide screen, even though it did improve viewability on narrow screens.

So ideally, the best course of action would be to make it so it would resize and rearrange the contents accordingly. But based on experience, it's a lot easier doing that on an actual web app than Wikipedia with the full functionality of CSS.

It's also likely that the number of mobile users might be too few to justify putting in the effort, which would suggest that we just design the layout for wide screen users. What do you think? Ganmatthew (talk) 17:49, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I think floating the table to the right would "lock" the table in place. I viewed the page yesterday using my mobile phone and could not horizontally scroll through the table. I personally think the wide space left in desktop view is better than the table appearing to be "locked" in mobile view. Maybe you could also consider returning the Table of contents since it is useful in mobile view? I am not sure if less users use mobile view than desktop. Perhaps you can ask other Tambayan members for their opinions regarding the matter. Regards. –Sanglahi86 (talk) 18:32, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sanglahi86 I realized the table itself isn't responsive to narrow screen widths but nevertheless I've figured out a way to make the Assessment page (mostly) responsive. Ganmatthew (talk) 19:13, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The table looks OK now in mobile view. However, maybe we should remove the background color and frame of the page as it obscures part of the table. The page would also look much better and legible in a white background, like in WikiProject United States/Assessment. Sanglahi86 (talk) 19:22, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganmatthew:, I edited the page and fixed the table of contents display issue but it appears the default TOC, including the TOC limit and horizontal TOC templates, are all disabled in mobile view. I presumed they would display normally like main articles. The TOC might still be useful in desktop view though. Kindly make adjustments as you see fit. Presidency of Rodrigo Duterte

[edit]
Hi Sanglahi86, I've finished the copy-edit of this article but I haven't done any content work, though I have copied over three sections that had been transcluded over from Rodrigo Duterte for copy-edit, so the prose is now significantly longer. I think there's some scope to split the article and/or move content to other articles, but not something I'm going to attempt. Good luck with the article and cheers, Baffle☿gab 21:22, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Baffle gab1978: Thank you for your efforts with Paradoxasauruser in thoroughly copyediting the article. The prose is now much better. I would want to try summarizing and moving some content to other articles (although as I had focused on expanding the article, I don't have any idea right now on which content needs to be moved); perhaps you could offer some suggestions or insights? –Sanglahi86 (talk) 22:09, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
happy to have helped, @Sanglahi86. likewise, thanks for your significant contributions to the article!
I would suggest reviewing an article like Administration of Barack Obama to get an idea of how to broadly cover the administration, vs Timeline of the Barack Obama presidency which is more exhaustive - perhaps this is the way to include granular policies, international visits, etc, without resulting in an article with a lot of "on this date, Duterte did abc.... on this date, Duterte did xyz..."
The sections in the Duterte admin article make sense, but contain content that could still be pared down. I think particularly as it pertains to laws passed, some stuff may not be significant enough to warrant inclusion in the overview article and could be safely moved to either a separate policy page which ideally already exists (eg DuterteNomics, Build! Build! Build!), or to a timeline page which looks like it'd require building from the ground up. I also recall (haven't checked recently) leaving in some back-and-forths between Duterte and his critics which could probably be safely removed without resulting in a less clear or comprehensive summary of Duterte's presidency. hope that makes sense. Paradoxasauruser (talk) 15:11, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paradoxasauruser:, thank you for your very helpful suggestions and insights. I will review the Obama article and see what I can do to broadly cover the Duterte admin article. A timeline for a six-year presidency is too daunting and time-consuming, but I'll consider it if I have enough drive and time. Regards. –Sanglahi86 (talk) 16:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on Philippine Government Agency Article

[edit]

Hello! I noticed that you are one of the active editors on government related Philippines articles so I wanted to ask for advice on an article I drafted. Draft:Human Rights Violations Victims' Memorial Commission. I mostly followed the structure of Commission on Human Rights (Philippines) as well as some United Nations Human Rights organization articles. I also referenced other Philippine government articles and foreign government articles too. According to the comment it recommended i use independent sources, but I think I used sufficiently independent sources at least to build a sort of background for the agency. Should I add sections relating to topic like this? [2]COA flags memorial commission's lack of progress Thank you! Firekiino (talk) 06:45, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Firekiino:, I think the sections "Mission and Vision" and "Logo" should be removed as they are unencyclopedic. I see no problem in adding content mentioned in the CNN Philippines article you cited since it appears notable. Regards. –Sanglahi86 (talk) 22:44, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Your efforts are very much appreciated. Regards. —Sanglahi86 (talk) 23:39, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No probs; well I wasn't planning to but I've moved around a lot of the text so similar stuff goes together, and I've also removed a lot of off-topic text. On the plus side, it's now down to 174 kb in size. Feel free to replace anything I removed if you think it's important for the article. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 05:14, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't really read the entire article because it appears to have lots of off-topic text/excessive detail and appears to have a slight promotional tone. The copyedit is going great; there are only a few misspellings ("Monero"). Thanks again. Sanglahi86 (talk) 11:09, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; I've fixed the typos... that's what happens when you edit tired! Cheers, Baffle☿gab 10:44, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

() I'm done now; I've inline-tagged a few problems I came across: an uncited paragraph at the end of "Political career" --> "Vice mayor of Manila"; excessive citations in the last paragraph of "Political career" --> "Mayor of Manila" --> "City services and infrastructure" and in "COVID-19 pandemic response". Also I think the "Awards, honors and recognition" section could be consolidated; perhaps some of the awards could be placed in a table or a structured list, and there may some repetition in the subsections considering I moved the top subsection from an earlier position in the article. Anyway, it's all yours; good luck with the article. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 03:49, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your thorough work. I will see what I can do with the rest of the article. Best regards. Sanglahi86 (talk) 05:39, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fishing in the Philippines

[edit]

Hi Sanglahi, saw this request. I've recently been toying with creating an article on Fisheries management areas in the Philippines, but am not sure if that would better fit into a larger Fishing in the Philippines article or be standalone. Have you been looking into this sort of topic? CMD (talk) 03:03, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello CMD. I have not looked into those topics. I added those article requests primarily so that they could be linked in Philippines (I am not really keen on creating articles since I prefer editing existing ones). I would prefer a high level Fishing industry in the Philippines or Aquaculture in the Philippines, but both require more work and content to be comprehensive enough.
