[edit]I am sorry to trouble you about this. I would be very grateful if you would kindly correct the title of this page:List of Christan Brother New Zealand school alumni to List of Christian Brothers New Zealand school alumni. Thank you in anticipation.Jam6700 (talk) 02:11, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Notability (sports)
[edit]I see that you PRODded Colombians AFC with the rationale "Fails Wikipedia:Notability (sports) by a large margin". I've left the PROD in place, because it does appear to me that the article probably should be deleted on notability grounds, but I was confused by your citation of Wikipedia:Notability (sports), since that guideline clearly states "This guideline does not cover sports teams." Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Steve Smith (talk) 09:29, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Why ?
[edit]why you added this template to this article Farrukh Zokirov--ITPRO.UZ (talk) 22:48, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- @ITPRO.UZ: Your command of the English language isn't as good as it needs to be. For example, for your above query to form a grammatically correct question, you would have had to ask: "Why have you added this template to the Farrukh Zokirov article?" Schwede66 03:33, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your contribution, you obviously know better. However I am very puzzled by your under-linked tag, why have you put that on? Can you suggest any more links? List them here please. Eddaido (talk) 07:13, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- If you've got four paragraphs of text with zero links, it is most certainly underlinked. Try act of parliament, Wellington City (council), Hutt County, Wairarapa County, mayor of Wellington, (new zealand) government, High Court (of NZ), (Wlgt) waterfront, Local government (in New Zealand), Wellington, Hutt (city), Wairarapa (district), Manawatu (district); note that some of them may be redlinks (but that's fine). That's 12 relevant links over and above the two that I have already added. Makes sense that it's underlinked? Schwede66 08:08, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- I should have thought they (listed by you above) were all so obvious someone would come along and say overlinked and remove them all. I think I've achieved all I wanted with this article and I can leave it for others to develop. Regards, Eddaido (talk) 08:21, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

- If you want to consider some advice, then it might be a good idea for you to draft requests or replies in your sandbox, sit on it for a couple of hours or even a whole day, consider whether what you want to say is appropriate and when you conclude that it is, then action the item. [edit]With this edit, you inserted the phrase "the HMS Britomart". As "HMS" stands for "His Majesty's Ship", it is usual to omit the article, because "the His" reads awkward. --Pete (talk) 22:57, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Burnside High School is lack of your pictures
[edit]Hi there! I'm writing an article about Burnside High School in russian. Could you help me, please? Specifically, I'm looking for a picture of symbolic Burnside High School's cabbage tree spot. Would you like to take a shot and upload it to Commons, please? I'll appreciate your help! Thanks! --Voyagerim (talk) 15:53, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there! Despite some pictures of BHS were kindly uploaded by CHCBOY, the article Burnside High School still needs your pictures too (cuz that historical cabbage tree stand growing in the grounds of Burnside High School still hasn't a picture under free CC license:) Thanks! --Voyagerim (talk) 18:38, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Voyagerim: Looks like you are writing a book rather than an article about Burnside High. Wow! Did you go to school there? When you upload photos, like the historic shot of the cabbage tree, could you please upload them to Wikimedia Commons? That way, we can use them for across all WP language projects. Schwede66 05:17, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Lol. Nope, I didn't go to that school nor any other (at NZ). I've written series of articles about NZ following red links from the article 2010 Canterbury earthquake (I've extended it a bit in ruwiki and made the feature article). So, BHS was one of them, and I've got this topic for my current research. Somehow miraculously I've got in touch with sir Paul O'Connor - then Head of Historic Department of school, and he was so kind and send me his book "Choosing the Right Path: Burnside High School 1960-2010" dedicated for school's fiftieth anniversary. So, I use this book with pleasure and take some facts from it for the article. That's the story :)
- Pictures: unfortunately, I can't, cuz those pictures aren't free but ruwiki alllows to use'em as fair-use whereas commons doesn't allow to upload it. No any ppl from school except mr.O'Connor has answered to my requests by e-mail, and only few NZealanders have taken some pictures of Burnside High School under a free CC License, which already have been uploaded to Commons. Please, if you have an opportunity, could you take a shot of Burnside High School cabbage tree, growing in the grounds of Burnside High School, please? I'll pay you a million. Thanks! --Voyagerim (talk) 07:52, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

- Thank you a lot! --Voyagerim (talk) 08:02, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Voyagerim: I've now been at the school during daytime, so some more photos are on Commons. Schwede66 01:04, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
- Amazing! Great job! Thank you very much! --Voyagerim (talk) 08:27, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia event at UC, Sunday 18 Sept.
[edit]Hi Schwede, how are you? How are you enjoying the wild weather this week? :-) The Uni Feminist Society is putting together a conference next weekend and they would like to have a session about Wikipedia and a bit of a workshop on how to edit. Are you available to come out and help? It was great having you at the other event! It will be on Sunday 18th at the university, I will get a more exact time in the next day or so. Cheers, MurielMary (talk) 11:55, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- MurielMary Sure. Let me know the time. Schwede66 18:40, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

- Catsandthings is organising the meet-up and seems to have hit a roadblock - the university's IP address is blocked for editing as it's an institution. She has requested that the ban be lifted. I think we should have a back-up plan if the ban can't be lifted and we can't actually edit on the day. What else could we do? Presentation about some aspect of WP and how the feminist group can use it to expand the knowledge base of women etc etc? Hmmmmm. MurielMary (talk) 10:02, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

- Sorry; UC wouldn't mean much to non-New Zealanders. That's the University of Canterbury, and if whatismyipaddress.com is right, the IP address is 132.181.65.60. But there's no such WP user. MurielMary and Catsandthings, do you know more? Schwede66 22:18, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

- I just messaged with Catsandthings and she says that the IP ban appears to already have been lifted as she can edit from uni without the "ban" message appearing on the screen. However another question is, would the limit of 6 new users per IP also have been lifted? MurielMary (talk) 23:08, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
- MurielMary, I've just had a look at Catsandthings' contributions and she has not requested for this ban to be lifted through editing Wikipedia. Now I'm assuming that it is WP that has imposed the ban, and not the university. Is she aware of that? The ban would apply to anons; once you register for an account, you should be all good. Or is the university blocking access to WP somehow? I suggest that we get to the bottom of this, as there would be nothing more annoying than turning up on the day and it's not a happening thing. Schwede66 23:38, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
- That IP is not blocked and has no records of having edited Wikipedia. Any access restrictions must have been imposed by the university LAN supervisor. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:59, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
I put in a request through Phabricator as a Wikimedia-Site-requests as per the 'how to run an editathon' on Wikipedia's page about it. They marked it as resolved, so I'm hoping that it works. The event is running on both Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th from 11:00-12:30 at the university. I'm giving a brief talk at the start on the lack of diversity. Appreciative of any assistance! It will be in the computer lab for those who don't bring laptops. Catsandthings (talk) 09:25, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Catsandthings, sorry I didn't realise it was running both days. I'm only available to come on the Sunday. Where is the computer lab? I suspect if I bring a laptop I won't be able to log on to the UC network as I'm neither staff nor student? MurielMary (talk) 11:10, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Just FYI Schwede that the event is at Kirkwood Village (part of the UC campus, on Kirkwood Avenue). The village has lettered blocks, and the conference is using KD block. Not sure which room number in that block the WP workshop will be in, but the blocks aren't large so it shouldn't be a problem to wander around and find it. MurielMary (talk) 10:51, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
- Aaah just looked at the conference programme and the wp workshop is listed as in KC01 computer lab. So that would be block KC, next to block KD. MurielMary (talk) 11:03, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

- How did today go, MurielMary? Schwede66 05:17, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Good session on Sunday, 9 participants and several made accounts and started editing. I've updated the meetup page with user names and articles worked on. There was an issue with the "6 new accounts per IP rule" and some of the group have to wait 24 hours for their account to be activated. I'm not sure if that rule can also be requested to be waived for an edit a thon, but it's something to bear in mind for the future. For our first event, we encouraged people to make accounts before they came to the event, so it wasn't an issue that time around. For the new editors, I was thinking of posting a welcome message on their user talk page - I got one with a pic of a plate of cookies and some useful links. Is that a template? Was it from a bot? Or do we need to do that manually? MurielMary (talk) 17:55, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Good to hear. The welcome message is a template, usually delivered using Twinkle, but manual posting will do:

New Page Review needs your help
[edit]Hi Schwede66,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

User group: New Page Reviewr
[edit]Hello Schwede66.
Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.
New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
[edit]Hello, Schwede66. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

[edit]Shall we use the dab "(New Zealand electorate)" for Maori electorates? An answer would be appreciated. J947 05:36, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- Well, this needs a wider discussion. It's not up to me, but I'd be in favour of it. Schwede66 07:04, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

greetings
[edit]thank you for your query, you are most welcome to revert me if you so wish. If you would like the back story - User:Wwikix was for some time a dutch wikipedia editor who chose to re-arrange categories and things compulsively - the admins had tried behavioural controls over 5x from what I understand - and in the end the editor was blocked for a while. When the editor came to english wikipedia - it was a mysterious and unexplained edit history of 'playing' with categories of which no one has gone in and fixed the 're-arrangements' - and was eventually blocked. Since the block at least 2 socks have arrived to offer alternative ways at looking at the world without explanation. The latest was an IP, the previous (identified that is) sock had applied 'name by association' categories - the CFD with explanations from more experienced editors the problem - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_December_8#Category:Daniel_Gabriel_Fahrenheit - the problem being there are probably more categories in the edit history that need to be expunged. If you feel happy with keeping the article in the category - that is fine - your call. Note that I have removed most from the category tonight. cheers JarrahTree 14:33, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- @JarrahTree: I thought that there must be some background to this; thanks for the comprehensive answer. I had wondered about the whole thing because I had certainly come across such categories before, and see that this British people category exists for example. But I'd be the last one who would come to the support of a problem editor. Maybe you could provide an edit summary with your reverts that points to some background info, so that editors who want to understand what's going on can go and have a read. Schwede66 17:31, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- It is a bit more difficult than that - some advise against providing the info n the open as given above as it is likely the sock is reading all this trying to work out how to evade identification in the future... JarrahTree 23:29, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
FISA database profile merging
[edit]Hey Schwede66, in relation to this edit summary: do you still speak to FISA regarding their database? At Wikidata we have identified 72 (potential) duplicates in FISA’s database, maybe we could forward a list to the database maintainer. Would that be possible? Thanks and regards, MisterSynergy (talk) 18:09, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Sure. Email me the list and I'll pass it on. Schwede66 18:25, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Okay great! I will do so tomorrow or on the day after. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:10, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Re: [3]. My apologies, it would seem I've been at this so long I've long since forgotten there was an actual definition of minor edit. It just 'felt' minor. Mea culpa. Merry Christmas, DBD 10:01, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- @DBD: No trouble. I looked at your edit count before I posted the comment and was rather surprised to find that you are such an experienced editor. I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit sensitive regarding marking edits as minor. And greetings of the season in return. Schwede66 17:59, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
By the way, Schwede66, could you have another check at my minor edits that I had made before you posted a comment on my talk page on 14 December 2016? Before then I had had a read of Help:Minor edit and I was pretty sure that my 'minor edits' conformed to those guidelines. J947 01:29, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, I've had another look at your 13 and 14 November minor contributions. There were a few that I thought aren't minor, e.g. the Wanganui "h" (in fact, your edit may be factually wrong; please go and check), this link is fine but there may be those who would want to point to a different redirect so it's not minor for that reason, these edits are good but there are different ways of how the info could be presented, same here and you are adding content. But in the big scheme of things, you are doing just fine, and I value your contributions. In fact, I thought you were New Zealand's most valuable new editor in 2016 and wanted to post a barnstar on your page for xmas, but didn't get round to it while heading off on holiday. I shall do so now! Schwede66 18:57, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
