Winfield Independent School District
[edit]Hi! In regards to merging Winfield Independent School District into Winfield, Texas, the merge was asking users to see the talk page, but there was never any discussion about this [ from the page history]. I disagree with the merge as Winfield Independent School District is a government agency as per Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#School_districts which states ""Populated, legally-recognized places" include school districts, which conveys near-inherent notability to school districts per Wikipedia:Notability (geography)."
You don't mind if I reverse the merger, and if you feel the two should be merged, we should have an articles for discussion about it? WhisperToMe (talk) 18:08, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- Just found the talk page Talk:Winfield,_Texas#Merger_with_Winfield_Independent_School_District. Nobody else responded to it and I understand you merged when you found no opposition on it. Unfortunately few people read these talk pages. I think it would be better to ask on Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools or on a village pump page. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:48, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- And from the map we see the district not only served Winfield but also the municipality of Millers Cove and swathes of unincorporated rural areas. I think it's inappropriate to redirect the page on a school district that served a vast area to a city Wikipedia article as if the district belonged to the city government. I would like to de-merge the article, and after that if you dispute this, you're welcome to start a discussion about it. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:52, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- User:WhisperToMe I agree with you that the pages should be de-merged pending further discussion between us (and others). I made the decision to merge the articles a bit earlier in my Wikipedia career before I more familiar with Wikipedia's protocols. Following WP:BRD I definitely think this is an area of further discussion. In regards to that discussion, I don't want to have too much of it in my talk page, so future users are able to follow it if they are in my position again, however, I am tempted to agree with you. Especially in light of Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#School_districts. I do still have some reservations to discuss with you on the article talk page, but overall I would love to work together to achieve the best solution and improve the page (although there's not many ways more reliable information to the page could be added). - Sure! Feel free to discuss at Talk:Winfield, Texas WhisperToMe (talk) 23:28, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
