Why did you undo my edit?
[edit]I apologize for my lack of summary in regard to my edit of the Christian Metal page. This was my first time attempting an edit. While it may have seemed as though my removal of material was not constructive, I would argue the opposite. While the information may be historically accurate, recent events surrounding the lead singer for "As I Lay Dying" (i.e. coming out as a longtime atheist, and conviction for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife), clearly have stripped this band of any "Christian" metal affiliation. This band should be removed from this page so as not to confuse researchers on this topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.128.247.182 (talk • contribs)
- First, note that most of the reversions on Special:RecentChanges are on topics I don't care for in the slightest bit. What catches my eye is removal of large quantities of sourced text w/o an edit summary or explanation on a talk page. If any of the conditions are not satisfied, I almost always won't bother reverting. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 03:55, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
Your request for rollback
Hi The Last Arietta/Archive 1. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! EdJohnston (talk) 05:05, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

CAIC Z-10
[edit]Hello, The Last Arietta. My name is Jon and I am the original contributor for the WZ-10 page. Recently two person one named Pvpoodle and the other Shulinjiang have been vandalizing the WZ-10 page. Pvpoodle posted biased western source to mock the WZ-10 that it was designed by Kamov, however this have been openly denied by both Chinese and Russian source. Later Kamov's chief designer recanted his words by saying that Kamov was only involved in the early brain storming back in the 1990's while WZ-10's detail design and core technology were all done by the Chinese themselves. This means that WZ-10 can not be counted as Russian design. Shulinjiang tried to debunk Pvpoodle's claim, and Pvpoodle's source were all posted in 2012 two years ago.
Right now, both Pvpoodle and Shulinjiang have been blocked due to vandalizing Wikipedia pages.
Please leave WZ-10 page as it is, I have spend many hours posting constructive materials on it. As you can see, it was well written in every section and I have spend many hours posting actual Chinese sources and pictures to back them up.
Please do not let people vandalize that page by posting none Chinese and biased sources. After all, WZ-10 is a Chinese military hardware.
Thank you
Jon — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.160.102 (talk) 16:50, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- @64.134.160.102:/Jon, I sympathize with the Chinese on many issues, but I don't normally edit military-related articles and don't care for them. You need to be clear on what vandalism is. See WP:VAND. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 16:56, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
Thank you The_Last_Arietta for your understanding. If you take a look at Pvpoodle's sources, they are all western sources citing the words from Kamov's chief designer, however Kamov's chief deisnger have recanted his words. This alone make these sources unreliable. Second, these source were all written in December 2012, when the Chinese officially revealed WZ-10 to the public. Now you get an idea why all these sources all came out and bash China's accomplishment. I am not saying that Western sources are all like this, but there are quite a few of them.
Pvpoodle is Indian, and I have carefully read his edits which were all politically related stuffs. He recently got banned for 3 days for vandalizing. Shulinjiang got banned for two days for repeated editing. I am the original contributor for the WZ-10 page, having spend hours if not days on that page posting constructive materials not for any awards but for the good of Wikipedia. I really hope that you will protect the WZ-10 page. I am sure that when Pvpoodle was unbanned in three days, he will come back once again, I do not want to see anyone getting hurt anymore over this issue.
BTW, if you want the Chinese or Russian source to debunk Pvpoodle's biased sources.
I will be happy to provide thm for you.
Thank you

That's ad hominem, not to mention irrelevant and assuming; some of my friends' fathers are native Chinese and hold some opinions of China which I consider to be borderline treason.however Kamov's chief deisnger have recanted his words
I'll take your word for it, so you're good to go in my eyes. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 17:19, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- this guy not an original contributor to the article. edit history reveals no one by the name jon. he links he provides to "debunk my claims" are actually chinese versions of the same news reports i have cited. the chief designer has not actually recanted anything. he mentioned that kamov was involved in the design and to quote him directly "I know what I have done" from flightglobal. both the news report and the wiki article on z-10 both mention clearly that while the design is kamov's all further development work is chinese. i believe this preserves npov as it is only mentioning the news. however the same user has been sock puppetting with multiple ips and adding whatever he pleases without any valid reference in an attempt to spread his own propaganda while making ad-hominem attacks against me personally. you may wish to check Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shulinjiang before you continue to encourage his behaviour.Pvpoodle (talk) 14:27, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

[edit]While it seems that the review by Mrenter is commonly known and somewhat notable, there is none of it in article form. This is mostly due to him strictly reviewing shows on YouTube due to the format being easier for his type of content. Dear Sir,
It wasn't a test, it was the real McCoy. It was simply adding a link for an uncommon word (at least to me) -- Pericope -- that could perhaps save a future reader the step of having to look it up separately like I had to do.
If you deem that the change is unnecessary, so be it.

There's been an IP adding nonsense to List of people born at sea, and a few people have been reverting. In one edit, the IP added some nonsense but at the same time removed some more of their own vandalism. I then reverted badly, removing one piece of vandalism but accidentally reinstating another. The IP then removed their own remaining piece of vandalism - and that's what you reverted, thinking it was an unexplained removal. — Alan / Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:15, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Myanmar Democratic Reforms
[edit]According to 2008 The Union of the Republic of Myanmar Constitution, and there was 2010 general election, the first election after 1990 . Start from this 2010 election, Myanmar citizens have enjoyed their voting right again ( a very important stage for democratic reforms in Myanmar ) to choose their representatives from many political parties. At least, we can say that political liberalization---especially for people who really want to participate in politics-- is introduced in Myanmar , start from this 2010 general election . If you say Myanmar democratic reforms was started from 2011 under "civilian" administration of president U Thein Sein, it seems it neglects the election , especially the vote of Myanmar people and the several political parties they involved . So far, some of their representatives are doing great jobs in Hluttqw , Parliaments . Since I respect Myanmar people, I edited that Myanmar democratic reforms were started from 2010 not 2011. Gladvertising
[edit]The entry for "Gladvertising" incorrectly states the term was coined in a July 2011 report by the Centre of Future Studies. It was actually coined by author Sinclair Lewis in 1918.
I edited the entry to reflect this and the edit was removed by you because of lack of citation. I'm responding to your message.

Updates to "Motion Picture Association of America film rating system" (PG-13 section)
[edit]Hello -
I have twice made a correct edit to the PG-13 section of this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Association_of_America_film_rating_system) and twice have had it removed. I actually made the edits while I was not logged in, but you should be able to identify me from my IP address. The note I received from you said you were removing the edits because I did not cite an official source. This confuses me. I don't particularly need a source, because I can just watch the movie, which very clearly features two F-words. I don't think there's an article out there that I can use as a footnote confirming how many F-words are in the movie, but having seen the movie several times, I know that there are two. (I can cite the scenes in question if need be.) Can you please clarify what I need to do to make my edit permanent?
Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yossarian82 (talk • contribs) 17:44, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Yossarian82: The
having seen the movie several times
argument doesn't hold up in the face of our policies on verifiability. There is a source for 2013's Philomena having two instances, so you may have a chance of finding a source for yours. Personally I don't see how this is worth fussing over, as I could give a shit about anything the MPAA does, especially over a few commonplace (and not that offensive compared to racial epithets) 'swear words'. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 17:51, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
I agree with you completely about the MPAA in general, and the inoffensiveness of these words (in general, and compared to racial epithets). As for whether this is worth "fussing over," I don't know, this is Wikipedia, it's 99 percent minute details, so I don't know why this particular update is any more or less important than most of the other updates on pages that happen every day. I don't often edit, but I happened to be reading this particular article today, and I happened to notice something I knew was wrong, so I figured I'd update it.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this will work, but here is the video evidence of both F-bombs in "Ocean's Eleven":
F-bomb #1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mJf24luhuo F-bomb #2: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmj74e_did-you-check-the-batteries-from-ocean-s-eleven-2001_shortfilms — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yossarian82 (talk • contribs) 18:19, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Yossarian82: I'd be careful about YouTube, per WP:SELFSOURCE. The 2nd link appears finer, although I've never visited that site before. Stating "at least one F-bomb occurs in Ocean's Eleven" is good enough. It's not the difference between zero and a few dozen, for that matter. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 02:23, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

No they aren't, with respect to a fixed place. Every few years local governments cede/annex land, with the State Council's or provincial government's approval. But there are several thousand of local governments just on the county-level, guaranteeing that every year, across the country, there are several changes. As to the source for that, I rely on XZQH (the bloody "www" is required), which acts sort of like a news feed to these changes. Just this year, there an administrative change in Harbin, albeit just an upgrade for Shuangcheng District. Their recent history for Acheng is more of an administrative nature, and I can find nothing in that link to assert there was ceding over/annexation of land with Acheng. With nothing yet to explain this change in area, I'd rather there be no mention of historical area. You can ask ASDFGH as well, but he rarely responds to queries.- On that site, you can see many counties, which are mostly rural in nature, converting towns to subdistricts, a more urban designation. This is another testament to China's breakneck urbanization, and is fascinating to watch. TLA 3x ♭ → ♮ 06:46, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

[edit]- Sviatoslav Richter avoided publicly performing or recording pieces where he felt he could hardly add interpretative insight to. I feel similarly towards discussion anywhere, generally avoiding participation (namely XfD, Requested Moves, RfC, general user conduct threads) in discussions if I feel I don't have a new perspective. The key is argumentatum ad infinitum doesn't work.
- Knowing when to NGAF (not give a f***) or to drop the stick, including 'not taking sth personally', is a great skill. Some may call it maturity. But it also entails professionalism. Although I hate the term, 'cost-benefit analysis' comes into play, and the failsafe litmus test is: 'Are you blowing an atom into a planet with this dispute?' Take this exchange from GoldenEye:
- M: I don't want you go running off on some kind of vendetta. Avenging Alec Trevelyan will not bring him back.
- Bond: You didn't get him killed.
- M: Neither did you. Don't make it personal.
- Bond: Never.
- Myself included, I have not met A SINGLE person who can realistically/objectively evaluate his/her own actions while they are taking place. Take yet another exchange (Skyfall):
- M: Where the hell have you been?
- Bond: Enjoying death. 007 reporting for duty.
- M: Why didn't you call?
- Bond: You didn't get the postcard. You should try it some time. Get away from it all. It really lends perspective.
- It's commonly noted that sarcasm on the 'Net doesn't work/come across well. While not entirely true, what I do think hardly works is weeping in apologies, plastering them with 'I'm terribly sorry', 'I regret...', and the like; in person, one could determine if such appeals to emotion are sincere via the usual body+eye language, tone of voice, and maybe a lie detector, but this is the bloody Internet, not in-person conversation or Skype. When you've had a kerfuffle, IMO such phrases are nothing but extraneous fillers. Acknowledge the manner/area in which you screwed up, show evidence of improvement/rectifying the problem (if possible), and only if needed, demonstrate a concrete proposal to avoid 'cocking it up' in the future.
- While nasty, unwelcome and possibly indicative of an intolerance to others' viewpoints, calling real-world adherents to a viewpoint or practitioners of a custom names is definitely not a personal attack directed at a specific [or group of] editor. IMO, inability to make this distinction makes your criticism of others' incivility that much less valid.
