Using the talk pages

Hello. I notice you've been engaged in some back-and-forth on a couple of articles. I wanted to share a few things that might be helpful. Wikipedia generally functions by consensus; if you find a change you want to make is being resisted, the best approach is to engage in discussion on the article talk page, explain your position, and try to convince others that your proposed edits are a good idea. Communicating on the talk page is much preferred to communicating via edit summaries, as you have been doing.

Repeatedly reinserting a controversial edit leads to an edit war, which is a bad thing. Wikipedia has a 3-revert rule, meaning that if you revert the same edit more than 3 times in 24 hours you may be blocked from editing; it exists to discourage such edit wars, and the 3 reverts are not a hard-and-fast entitlement but rather an absolute upper limit.

Please take the time to discuss your proposed changes on the article talk pages and try to achieve some sort of consensus before reinserting them. If you continue edit-warring without discussion, or violate the 3-revert rule, you may be temporarily blocked from editing Wikipedia. MastCell ^Talk 15:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
