Question from TheProcessPR (17:56, 13 October 2021)

Hi, how can I go about publishing a page with verified news sources? --TheProcessPR (talk) 17:56, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello @TheProcessPR, I could not give a better general answer than you'll find starting at WP:YFA. I assume you are asking about Draft:John Kolm, in which case, you should first note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and as such it is quite unlike other websites that host people's profiles, CVs, etc. The articles on people are not their profiles; they are biographies that have been included as encyclopedia entries because they are worth knowing about, because they are found to have been taken note of by reputable reliable sources. When writing about a person, you need to first make sure the person is "notable" as defined at WP:NPEOPLE. I don't think your draft subject is. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 15:59, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from JuliaPate on T. S. Eliot bibliography (23:52, 14 October 2021)

Hi,

Submiting a mainspace article for review

Hi Usedtobecool, I clicked on a redlink article to create, it automatically moved me to the article space. To avoid deletion, I worked on the article from the user page, then moved it to back to article space when I was done. I used the template submit template to submit the article for review but I saw a deletion option rather. Can you please look into it Professor Johnbull. Thank you. Olugold (talk) 11:30, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

@Olugold, it should be moved first to Draft:Professor Johnbull if you want to submit it for review by WP:AFC, so more experienced editors can decide whether or not the article is notable and ready. If you add the submit template when it is in draft or user space, it will not warn you. If, on the other hand, you want WP:NPP's new page reviewers to review the article right where it is, you don't need to add anything to submit it; it's in the new articles' queue already and will be reviewed in time. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 12:39, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
oh! Thank you so much for this information. I'll rather leave it in the new articles' queue. I appreciate your Swift and helpful response. Thanks again and kind regards! Olugold (talk) 12:51, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Review

Hi Usedtobecool, could you please go through this article? Don't Live Here Anymore. Also feel free to suggest areas that needs improvement. What kinda submission do you suggest, AFC or New Page Reviewers? Thank you so much Olugold (talk) 21:04, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Article looks fine; mainspace should be okay. The infobox looks awkward though. Did you follow the documentation at Template:Infobox film? Also, the award would seem to be a significant part of its notability, at least at the moment. So, you should mention it in the lead and wikilink it so reviewers know that this is a notable award. @Olugold, there's a checkbox for that in the notifications preferences; I don't remember if it is checked by default. Hello Cjs1, welcome to Wikipedia! I am sorry for the delay but it can't be helped. You should expect to have to wait 24 hours to hear back even from those who edit daily, longer if they don't. You can see when I edited last by going to Special:Contributions/Usedtobecool. When you need quicker answers, you can visit the TEAHOUSE. I understand you are having trouble getting started. Perhaps you should go on an WP:ADVENTURE? Or you could try WP:TUTORIAL if you don't mind sitting and reading for a while; you should expect to have to do a lot of sitting and reading if you intend to make significant edits beyond simple typo fixing and anti-vandalism. @Cjs1, you may think you're being quite clever; let me assure you that this is not something I haven't seen a dozen times before, and I haven't even been here very long. I must ask you to apologise to Princess of Ara and withdraw post-haste from her talk page. And do not follow her around to pages she's editing. Trolling may get a little leeway, there's none when it comes to harassment, and you are quickly graduating from one to the other. If you are genuinely interested in editing, my advice to you is to check out WP:ADVENTURE, and then move directly to editing articles. If after you've done that, you find yourself stuck, I'll help you find more articles to edit. If after making 500-1000 edits to articles, you still want me to, I will care to have an opinion on your userpage. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 10:51, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from TheMikeBlackSpecial on Waves (Moving Mountains album) (18:59, 30 October 2021)

Hello! Thanks for reviewing the Waves album article I composed. I appreciate your feedback and look forward to using it in all future articles I publish. In your feedback, you noted that you believed my contribution lacked notability. I disagree. Both the uniqueness of the album's lyrical composition, as a result of the death of the band's close friend, and the special contributions of other musicians and writers, which were included, are just two examples. Furthermore, the quality of my contribution either meets or exceeds those of the band's other two albums which possess their own respective Wikipedia pages. I see no reason why the Moving Mountain's penultimate album would be any less notable than their antecedent (2007) or ultimate (2013) albums. Moreover, all cited works are reliable and verifiable. To be clear, I am in no way affiliated with this band, its label, or producers. While organically researching them, I merely noticed one of their studio albums was missing a page and wanted to contribute. I look forward to your insight and would like to see the article reinstated. If absolutely necessary, I can add a secondary source examining the uniqueness of the album as well. TheMikeBlackSpecial (talk) 18:59, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello @TheMikeBlackSpecial, thank you for reaching out. Wikipedia's definition of notability is a bit different from what we would understand it to be in common parlance. For albums, the criteria are laid out at WP:NALBUM. I think you 'll agree that your attempt didn't sufficiently demonstrate that it was met, though it is true that your work was on par with or exceeded many other such articles. There are many reasons why there are poor articles on Wikipedia and it is an ongoing effort to bring them up to standard or delete them if they can't be. So, comparisons with other articles are not always compelling. I did briefly look for sources for this album myself. But it did not appear to me to be an obviously notable topic. Redirecting albums to artists, songs to albums or artists, books to their authors, actors to their films, etc. is one of the standard ways we deal with articles that don't appear to be on notable subjects. Notability can of course never be completely ruled out. So, my advice to you is to create a WP:DRAFT and submit it to WP:AFC so you can work with reviewers in an iterative process without the danger of disruption or deletion. But, in the interest of full disclosure, under policy, which in this case is WP:ATD-R, you are entitled to revert me and restore your work. If you do that, I will most likely leave it for another reviewer to handle. They could approve it, redirect it again or nominate it for deletion. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:34, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you @Usedtobecool for your very clear and educational reply. I appreciate it. I will certainly be using this as future reference. For now, I'll revert changes and add secondary sources which offer independent analyses of the album, its contribution, and the band at that time in history. TheMikeBlackSpecial (talk) 19:49, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Info page discussion on NPR

Your suggestions on NPR are in line with some suggestions I was thinking of making to cc for their next cycle. The current cycle is about making it easy for new/junior editors and for experienced editors to be able to choose what to work on. The usability is poor for talk because

  • Talk contains Article (projects, page view graphs, sanction) and page info
  • Article contains Talk (Tags, stub ...,maintenance codes such as citation) and page info
  • the History page contains Talk ( reasons for reversion)
  • the left tab contains page info
  • Editors don't know that there are Talk topics, Editors fix issues that are talk topics
  • Tags are effectively, and have too little information
  • It's time consuming as you have to do Talk and Article editing
  • You can't get consensus on a page no one active is watching
  • most topics are not answered on minor pages, and even high view/editor pages on "Star Wars" have 20 % going through to archive
  • newbies get bitten, and bad behaviour exists

I really don't like the idea of a seperate database for page curator

So instead - Change the Talk tab to Tab(# of Open/non marked to archive topics) eg Tab(13) like on email - On Article publish have a list of open tasks come up that an Editor can mark as Archive or partial. Publishing on Article will auto publish the comment on Talk and mark it for archive - Have the page curator create talk topics rather than tags, but write a single line tag on the top of Article page curator articles exist - Have a status next to each topic, if the page curator topics are archived and maybe - Create an info tab BUT I was thinking of this as non user editable - have a rollover that tells you whether the user is active

Would this solve your "posting to talk page takes to long"? Can you explain "Not everything is appropriate"? Are these comments about the editor/creator or about what they have written? And can you give some BTW On Page curator can you see number of page watchers? And when you mark an Article as reviewed where does that get stored? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 11:23, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Apologies, @Wakelamp. This seemed like a message that needed some time which I just could not find this week.
I don't know what "cc" is, though that isn't a great hurdle to understanding the rest of your message.
For completeness, a lot of discussions and decision-making happen outside of Wikipedia. There are emails, IRC chatrooms, discord groups, other sister sites supported by the WMF, some groups of editors even have video conferences nowadays. I gather that you want to streamline editing by streamlining editing+communication and limiting the number of places relevant information can exist that new editors may not find and even experienced editors don't always find. That sounds like a good idea in principle but I don't think it would be practically achievable. Much is necessarily NEEDTOKNOW. Because doing NPP well requires coordinating about WP:UPE, WP:SPI and trying to predict whether a give topic would survive WP:AFD (also, other things, like an article from a newbie that needs looking into by an expert), and a lot of that is not suitable for the article's talk page, we would need a separate place. It does not have to be an NPP-only database; it could be a public project page which temporarily stores the comments, say for up to a couple of months after an article is marked reviewed.
Your idea sounds like the kind WMF developers would come up with. That's not to say it's good or bad, just different from what most regular editors seem to want, going by discussions I have seen in my time here. Editor corps is very attached to how it is currently, at least as far as articles and talk pages go. They provide the flexibility that upgrades and changes, the way they seem to be heading, don't. Talk pages have all kinds of posts and not all of them get discussed in order. In most articles, they can wait 10 years for the one editor interested in engaging to show up. Discussions are closed only out of necessity. If there's not a heated dispute or a deadline, most discussions remain open and they don't get archived unless the page becomes too large, filled with more pressing matters. So, there's not an easy way to decide when a discussion ends, is to be archived, or a matter is settled. In controversial matters, no sooner than a matter is closed, someone shows up asking to revisit it. Watch, for example, Talk:Ayurveda or Talk:Homeopathy or Talk:India, for a while. That would eventually also give rise to an entire new class of editors, maybe even a dedicated Wikiproject, to specialise in visiting talk pages simply to decrease the number of outstanding issues, not by fixing the article but by marking them as closed. For these reasons, I think the idea would not gain community consensus but you are welcome to try. I did just now see your post to the village pump. You didn't say as much as you have here there, and that's probably why the conversation doesn't seem to have taken off. Changes proposed need to be extremely specific (and only one at a time) and well-articulated, for the community to even consider it seriously. And the WMF is completely out-of-sync with the community. They are not known to prioritise what the community asks they prioritise; and big changes seem to happen only when forced by the WMF, often without asking the community.
Anyone can see the number of watchers an article or any page on Wikipedia has (instructions). For privacy reasons, the number is made public only after it crosses 30. There's even a game/competition of sorts around that. Editors brag about the number of watchers they have compared to Jimmy Wales (WP:CJ for details). I am not sure what you mean when you ask, And when you mark an Article as reviewed where does that get stored? Everything is in the servers like everything else. Editors like you and I keep track of it by looking at the logs which you can reach from the history page of an article. And, it can be filtered for page curation logs only.
Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:31, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank-you for taking the time to reply.
I am still thinking about some things that you wrote, and whether an NPP tab would be good.
As an aside, I think there may be an option that admin have to have hidden text. but I am not certain and can't find it.
My focus is very different from WMF ; WMF system changes only work, if they take into account what the Editor's day to day problems are, and how they work in line with how an Editor works. My personal aim is to make the time I spend on Wikipedia as effective and mostly enjoyable as possible.
Recently I became worried about the effectiveness, when I realised that the amount of work to do may be increasing (measured by nearly all the monthly backlogs reports I could find), even though the amount of pages is levelling off. Some of this is linkrot, or more reports detecting more things, or WP:OVERCAT.
Unlike NPP, most work on OPP (old page patrol :-) is done manually. And the more tags (especially with no explanation - the more work as the tags have to be removed.
  • My suggestion was half digested above - it's now little more
- I agree that archive is a very bad option, maybe a limited set of Wikipedia:List_of_discussion_templates would be better
- We definitely don't want to create a new editor type driven by a desire to close topics like a barman saying last orders - there are enough people driven by edit number mania.
- Talk:India is a well done talk space, with good interaction. Looking at the latest archive Talk:Ayurveda/Archive_20 4 topics (including one of yours) were archived without response - I find similar ratios elsewhere. Most pages are not set up for archive so problems stick around.
- The FAQ template is also rarely used, and I thought your comment would be ideal to be in one,
- As a contrast, I looked up the 25 most popular articles last week.Wikipedia:Top_25_Report . Many of them are using the Wikipedia:List_of_discussion_templates, and some are semi-protecting the topic with answer = yes
  • Old Talk
I see a a 10 year old Talk differently - did a New Editor quit because they got no response? Am I going to waste the next few minutes working out whether the change has been done? Or was it done and then reverted? Old NPOV headers are the same, but worse - they undermines WP credibility with the readers.
I skim/avoid many current Talk conversations with new/ineffective editors. They fragment other's threads making me lose track of who said what, they don't tend to create a consensus position by summary mentioning other editors, and they often dissipate with no conclusion.
Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 07:43, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. What is extra ordinary claims?

Have I made any extra ordinary claim? What's it? The reference I had added proved it's truthness. Respected former PM Oli has Mede those claims in public. The reference were from Ani, Anaapaurna Post and other reputed news papers. What's your problem? 110.44.121.34 (talk) 05:12, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

There are WP:BLP, WP:V, WP:RS and WP:NPOV issues to consider, and I don't have time to double-check everything. I am obviously not going to put in a poorly written "controversy" section from a ban-evading editor to mainspace without double-checking everything, not least someone who has a history of ignoring WP:NPOV in favour of their own beliefs. Usedtobecool ☎️ 07:00, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
So, dot you have strength to delete that article per G5? It was created envading a ban. I challenge you deleting it, I will ask someone else create it back.🤣 I am not a poppet of any party like you. Like Shahi cabinet, you mean? Yeah, I know about it. I have known since you posted to Bada Kaji's talk page, eight days before you created it. Just like every other article, and almost all of your edits. Any I have not reverted or got deleted, I have not done so because they are not harmful. You can feel however you like about the situation and about me but as long as you are evading your ban, that's the deal you get. I get to choose which edits of yours to allow and which to revert or delete. Thank you for proving my point though. Usedtobecool ☎️ 07:51, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Editing wikitables in source editing mode

I'm having difficulty in editing source code of a sortable wikitable here on a chemistry article.

I added a new row in this wikitable, but the source code is not showing any values or colors on the page. I tried matching source code of other rows but still seems weird. Can you please look into this? SassyGamer483 (talk) 18:43, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

It's somewhat fixed now. Any active editors may fact-check that article now. SassyGamer483 (talk) 18:57, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
@SassyGamer483, yes, looks like you got it: "|-" is used when starting a new row. More at Help:Table. Just one thing: I am guessing your "transparent" is the same as "colorless" of the rest of the table. In that case, they should be made consistent. Regards! Ryan Kavanaugh revert

Hey, I know it may seem tedious sometimes, but would it hurt to link to the exact policy you're basing your removal on in your edit summaries? It can only help less experienced editors like ‎JTW1998+ learn from their mistakes. Thank you for considering. Throast (talk | contribs) 08:12, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

@Throast, I had linked WP:BLP in my first edit (which editors on both sides on that article need to read in full more than once) and I linked the section which contained specific directions on how to proceed when a new editor showed up out of nowhere to restore content removed on BLP grounds. And those are the only edits I've made there. Edit summaries are not even required, and we have talk pages for discussions, so I am not seeing anything regrettable in how I handled it. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:30, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
I regret that you feel this way, but since you've now responded on the article talk regarding the matter, this discussion is now mute. Throast (talk | contribs) 17:12, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Explaining your revert

Hey there, you really can’t expect people to be able to respect reversions unless you give a rational for it. With regards to the Ryan Kavanaugh edit(s), can I ask you to please explain why the content wasn’t, in your eyes, seen as pertinent legal trouble when compared to the other content in that section? Thanks. JTW1998+ (talk) 13:45, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello JTW1998+, I think I did give a rationale which was that it was not appropriate for a WP:BLP. I don't expect you to respect it because of my persuasive rationale; I expect it because WP:BLPUNDEL requires you to. The onus is on you to explain why you want to include it. Anyway, I have explained myself on the article talk page. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:20, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Concern regarding move

Hi, I am Itcouldbepossible. I noticed this draftification of yours. Now, I am new out here, and am not sure about anything. But one thing, I want to know is that, is this move really needed. It was quite developed. It only lacked sources, and that is why I added the citations needed tag. We could have waited for some time isn't it? What is your opinion? ― ItcouldbepossibleTalk 08:07, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Itcouldbepossible, thank you for reaching out. Sourcing is one of the fundamental requirements for Wikipedia articles, as our stated purpose is to summarise existing sources on any topic. We could wait a day or two, that's true. But the article is almost completely empty (not "quite developed" as you say; it has some unsourced claims about living persons in the lead followed by some almost completely empty tables without adequate context to even understand what information they're to hold followed by completely empty sections), and the creator had not added to it after two quick edits almost a day earlier. If it is likely to take the creator a long time to bring it to acceptable standard, it's better to do it in the draftspace where reviewers won't bother them. I also performed a quick search and didn't find sources to indicate it is notable which it should be based on what the article claims. So, in my opinion, that's all the criteria for draftification met. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 09:58, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I was only clarifying my doubt. So as per your word, will it be right to move every article that has not source to the draft section? Maybe my question would be foolish, but still I want to know, as I am still an inexpert editor. Thanks for your reply. Merry Christmas. ― ItcouldbepossibleTalk 10:56, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
No. The article has to meet one of the criteria at WP:DRAFTIFY. Articles, for example, that are old, that are on obviously notable topics, that are created by long-term editors with an established track-record writing new articles, off the top of my head, should not be draftified. Articles that meet any of the WP:CSD criteria should be CSDed instead and articles that are on clearly non-notable topics should be WP:AFDed. Articles that have been draftified before should not be draftified again. Inexperienced editors had better learn other aspects of page-patrolling first. To start, you can check whether the article is orphaned or a dead-end and fix, you can tag for obvious issues, you can add categories, you can make WP:MOS fixes. You can add and sort stub tags. You can add wikiprojects to the talk page. You can tag articles that you are sure meet one of the CSD criteria accordingly. As you do these things, you can review the articles and make a mental note on how you would handle it and check back later to see if you were correct. Be sure to ask when you are not sure about what happened though, as sometimes mistakes are made and you could get the wrong impression if you believe those mistakes to be what's supposed to happen.
Merry Christmas! Usedtobecool ☎️ 14:27, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
Ok, that took me some time to find. You had probably forgot to ping me, and that is my greatest weak point. I forget what I had written where, and it gets really difficult to find it again. I had to go through my contribution list. Anyway (please Reply to icon mention me on reply). Thanks for the long and detailed suggestion that you gave me. So from the next time, can I ping you to a article's talk page, to discuss if the article needs to be draftified or not? Thanks in advance. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 11:53, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
@Itcouldbepossible, I am not sure what's got you interested in draftification in particular, which is not something one usually goes around looking to do, but I would prefer you not ping me to article talkpages to tell you whether the article should be draftified. I don't think that would be the most efficient approach. And, regardless, I am trying to minimise my commitments so I can do some content work with little time I can currently afford for Wikipedia. I will try to respond to your queries if you would like to ask them here if you are fine waiting up to a few days. Although, that will not include me looking at an article to tell you whether it should be draftified. One needs to be able to assess a given article against all criteria at WP:DRAFTIFY and not everyone can do that well for every article. If you'd like to ask a more open-ended question about any article, I will be able to give you my opinion. With regard to Vierlingsbeek railway station, that article and articles like it exist in that state because people create them in that state, and WP:AFDs keep articles on "railway station"s as long as it can be verified that the station exists. Because AFDs keep articles on stations that "exist", people keep creating new articles with only enough evidence to show that it exists. What could you do? You could look for sources and improve the article yourself. You could maybe go to WT:TRAINS and share your concerns there and ask them what could be done. Perhaps you'd like to join the discussion already underway at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Trains#Schmollensee_station. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:22, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi Usedtobecoo. Ugh, sorry if I was a little harsh over on my talk page, there. I was a little bit hot under the collar, a weakness which I struggle with but will never entirely overcome I fear. II dialed it back some if that's OK.)

FWIW I stil do believe that my SCRAM shutdown was for the best, because reasons. However, I could be wrong, and you could have been right to undo it. In this case I think that undoing the close was not for the best overall, but I also could be wrong about that. It's a hard case because neither my nor your actions could really be debated beforehand as that would have defeated our purposes. It's done, and not worth debating further IMO. At any right, thank you for taking a reasonable action to protect Wikipedia process on a point you felt strongly about, rather than just ignoring it. Herostratus (talk) 18:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for reaching out, @Herostratus! As I said in my original message to you, I understand your intent, but as you say, we obviously disagree on what the right course of action was. Considering what's been going on about that page over multiple discussion pages, our disagreement seems milder and milder.
I did not comment further only so as not to escalate (not that there was anything that couldn't be left unsaid). So, please do not worry about me. I wasn't affected by how your emotions translated into words beyond recognising that you felt strongly about what I'd just done. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 17:38, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
I mean, but I see that the page is now up for deletion, and it's running close. The specific cause was that thread, where a single rollback is the (ostensible) issue. If my edit had been allowed to stand, we would not have had the page sent to WP:MFD, and it had there wouldn't be as many delete votes I don't think... better to have one bone than try for two and lose both. This exactly was my fear that made me make that edit. Herostratus (talk) 22:14, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
This won't come as a great shock to you, but I have to disagree again. All my unclose did was shorten the process of your close being overturned, which was however inevitable. I did not hasten the demise of that page (even if that ends up happening) and your close was not going to single-handedly save it. Even if "whether the venue should be for rollback" was the crucial point that precipitated the rest, which it isn't, your close did not and was never going to get rollback off the list at the top. Similarly, I did not add rollback there; all I did was point out that rollback is there (for better or for worse). Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 07:07, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Involvement in the Drn

Hi Usedtobecool, sorry for the trouble, I know that I might sound petulant, however now I need to know in what form you intend to be called to participate in the Drn on Italian parties. I am writing to you because I have seen you particularly active on the topic in the past few days, therefore potentially interested. Soon I intend to file a request to the Drn, so I need to indicate the users directly involved. I don't know if you prefer to be notified by ping within the discussion, indicated as an involved user or if you are not interested in participating in the discussion. I would be grateful if you agree to participate in the discussion, the more users intervene, the easier it will be to find an agreed solution. Obviously I will respect your every decision :) --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 10:23, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for the delayed response, Scia Della Cometa. I had thought I would respond after going through whatever had happened since I last opined on the subject, but I never did find the time. Not sure if any response from me would still be relevant. Regardless, I don't think I have more to add beyond what I have already said more than once, which I am sure all involved parties are aware of. (i) I think it would be original research to come up with our own criteria; I will say just that on any RFCs that might happen on the subject, but I have no interest in arguing it elsewhere unless called to do so. (ii) Both of you should refrain from repeating yourself to keep the discussions accessible to uninvolved editors pressed for time and patience. This far along the DRN process I hope the second one is no longer an issue. The discussion is too long for me to try to deduce what is happening with the first one. If you are still going for an RFC on the subject, as I said, I will !vote opposing artificial criteria not based on reliable sources. Please let me know if there are viewpoints/arguments you think I would benefit from. And please let me know if there are specific issues or threads you would like my opinion/participation in. Please feel free to disregard if this reply has come too late to be of interest to you. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:47, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Don't worry, it is not yet late. Effectively we have burdened the Drn too much. Probably we'll have a Rfc in Talk:List of political parties in Italy to decide whether to have or not detailed rules, so you will can give your opinion there. Question from TM 256 (21:11, 14 February 2022)

Hello, I was editing a page when I asked a question that stumped me. When referring to the height of an object, (building, mountain, etc.) should I put it in meters, feet, or both. I know a large amount of Wikipedia readers are from the US, so the use of feet would be easier for the majority. Though, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for all, and most countries use the Metric system. If you could provide an answer, that would be lovely. --TM 256 (talk) 21:11, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello TM 256! Detailed guidelines are at MOS:UNITS. The gist is: if the thing is from the US, you write in feet and provide the conversion to metres in parenthesis (Empire State Building), if it's elsewhere, write it in metres and provide the conversion to feet (The Shard). In general, you can use common sense for questions of style, and learn as you go (by checking other articles where such decisions would have been made or by making a choice and waiting for someone else to come around and correct you if necessary). Most of the time, all you need to do is follow the choices the article you are editing has already made. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 04:37, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Deepfriedokra, I was thinking of blanking it and leaving a message asking the author to try again without creating a spammy live version. But I wanted to wait for Liz; she's likely to resume editing around 1700 UTC. Even a SNOW MFD will take a long time. It also qualifies for G12 by the way, though a cumbersome case to make in a speedy template, as it takes a few sentences or paraphrases from many many subpages of the website that's linked from throughout the article. Usedtobecool ☎️ 15:43, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Prof Junior Thomas! My best guess is you are asking to get included in the encyclopedia. Well, Wikipedia has some criteria for inclusion. For people, they are at WP:NPEOPLE. Does it look like you meet any of them? To get started with writing a Wikipedia article, please see WP:YFA. Fair warning though, WP:AUTOBIOs are a bad idea. If you have done notable things in your life, someone else will write about you sooner or later. As Wikipedia is expected to be a neutral source, getting written about by others is much better; people who write about themselves or pay others to do so often find their reputation tarnished in the media. @Carls Laureano I noticed your mentor has not been active for a few days. So I thought I'd stop by and reply for them by inviting you to read "Your First Article". Trying to create an article as a complete beginner to Wikipedia is a considerable challenge. Everything you want to include must be written in your own words, but must also be based on Reliable Sources which are independent of the subject you are writing about. In other words: never just add stuff "you happen to know". Obviously, this is English Wikipedia, so it's important to remember that we communicate in English at all times. Question from N i a z g u l k h a n (08:44, 2 April 2022)

How to set on my profile --N i a z g u l k h a n (talk) 08:44, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Not clear what you mean, @N i a z g u l k h a n. If you want to introduce yourself to fellow editors, you can create your userpage at User:N i a z g u l k h a n. Please adhere to WP:UPYES when you do. If, on the other hand, you want to create an article about yourself on Wikipedia because you think you are WP:Notable, the best advice is "don't". See WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY for why not. In general, to start an article, start by reading WP:YFA. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 07:57, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Reikima on Draft:Diane Green Artist (17:18, 30 April 2022)

Hello! I'm pretty clueless about how to do this. Yay! I need any kind of help avaialble. I guess my first question is how do I edit layout? I would like photo to be in the right side of the page. How do I begin Biography? I don't see that option yet. Do I create it? Is there a teemplate that can be recommended for artists and wikipedia beginners? --~dianegreen (talk) 17:19, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Diane, sorry for the delay! It seems you are writing an autobiography. First of all, please consider that an article about yourself may not necessarily be a good thing; Wikipedia strongly discourages writing about oneself. If you still must do it, you need to start with a conflict of interest disclosure on your userpage (instructions at WP:DISCLOSE). The looks and layout of the draft don't really matter at this stage. Please first make sure you have adequate sources to establish notability. Please study the guidelines at WP:NARTIST and WP:GNG and make sure you meet at least one of the criteria. Make sure to only include information that you can support with the available sources. And do write in a neutral and objective manner. Stuff like "She married a ginger fellow, Jim McArdle and had two beautiful redheaded children, Brigit and Casey" really really really won't do. In fact, most of the time, writing like that ensures your draft gets speedily deleted by Wikipedia admins. Try instead, "She married Jim McArdle in 1990; they have two children." But, again, please don't write it because you know it; write it only if you have a reliable source to support it. The purpose of external links is to support the claims in the article so readers can verify that Wikipedia is not simply making the stuff up. I am not seeing the claims in that draft supported with citations in that manner. Please see WP:REFB about citing sources. Good luck! Usedtobecool ☎️ 12:27, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
