[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary, and then click the "Save" button. Thanks! —DIYeditor (talk) 14:34, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Costa Rica Pix

[edit]

I'll second the editor above. Thank you for helping make Wikipedia better. Your changes to the Costa Rica article improved the encyclopaedia, and your work is appreciated. I'd also repeat their encouragement to add an edit summary. It gives other editors involved in articles a better understanding of what you did, and (more importantly) why you made the change. Something as simple as "better image" or as descriptive as "replaced ugly pics of fake oxcart and half-eaten breakfast with great pics of real oxcart and typical breakfast plate." :D Cheers, Last1in (talk) 17:31, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image dos and don'ts

[edit]

Images make Wikipedia more informative, accessible, and professional.

In general, when working with images:
DO:
Review the image style guide and use policy.
Give context with captions and alt text.
Try to find at least one image for each article.
Find free images, or create and upload your own.
Clean up images: crop, color-correct, etc.
Use the best file format for each image.
Use objects for scale where helpful.
Place images in the section to which they are related
DON'T:
Don't upload non-free images.
Don't use images in place of tables or charts.
Don't use images or galleries excessively.
Don't add images that are not relevant.
Don't flip faces, text, or works of art.
Don't set fixed image sizes.
Don't sandwich text between two images.
Don't refer to images by their placement.
Don't place images too early or at the end of sections.

IPA

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your contributions! A couple notices regarding IPA: first of all, make sure you are certain about pronunciations you are adding and ensure they match the conventions listed at the pages they link to (e.g. ⟨French pronunciation: [bɔ̃ʒuʁ]⟩ links to Help:IPA/French so transcriptions like [bõʒur] or [bɔ̃ˈʒuːʁ], although not incorrect per se, would not match the help key); secondly, please refrain from using the deprectated templates {{IPA-fr}}, {{IPA-nl}}, {{IPA-de}} etc. and use instead codes like {{IPA|fr}}, {{IPA|nl}}, {{IPA|de}} and so on. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers! ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 22:18, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. You seem to have completely disregarded my message. {{IPA-}} templates are deprecated and must not be added. Use {{IPA|language code}} instead. And remeber to please follow Help:IPA/Standard German and the like. Regards. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 10:12, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean like this {{IPA|de}}?? WikiNewbie1612 (talk) 10:24, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. And in the case of German and a few other languages, language codes such as de-AT and de-CH (for Austrian and Swiss Standard German) will categorize a page more specifically into Category:Pages with Austrian German IPA, Category:Pages with Swiss Standard German IPA and so on, so take that into account too. Thanks! ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 10:56, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are not listening to me and you keep doing stuff that others have to clean up after: you add {{IPA-hu}} instead of {{IPA|hu}}, and what about this? That’s not how you transcribe in accordance with Help:IPA/Ukrainian. If you have trouble getting the point of my messages, please ask instead of ignoring them and continuing this way. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 13:45, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I edited it with visual edit, so it appears {{IPA|de}} not {{IPA-de}} WikiNewbie1612 (talk) 13:49, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should check the source code if you have trouble editing with the visual editor. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 13:56, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Sorry for bothering you, can I ask you about how to input the OpenStreetMaps on the articles? like provinces highlight WikiNewbie1612 (talk) 14:02, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Uhmm I don’t know much about that since I normally don’t edit maps. You can check WP:MAPS, which deals with the matter in detail. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 14:28, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hungarian language, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Széphalom. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 07:55, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Finnish language. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. You are adding an audio sample to an article that already has several of them, and now edit warring to do so. This is disruptive editing. TylerBurden (talk) 19:41, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
