Early history of Weightlifting
[edit]Do you know if weightlifting in Armenia has a history before the Soviet era? While wrestling and boxing are more traditional, it seems weightlifting and gymnastics became popular because they were popular sports in the Soviet Union; I'm not sure though. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 18:48, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
So should we take Early history off of the history section and mention in the Soviet era one that this is when weightlifting first became popular in Armenia? And Rafael Chimishkyan is from Georgia, so that really doesn't say anything about weightlifting in Armenia. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 19:07, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

The last two are in Georgian and I'll translate it as time permits. As for the Tbilisi Chess Palace, it is a modern building and is, according to the Georgian law, copyrighted. Wrestling reply
[edit]For the European Championships.. yeah, that's probably a good idea. Actually, I was thinking of going back to organize all the medals in the order of which they were won (most already are, but definitly not all) but this solves the problem completely. If you want to seperate the European GR and FS medals, I think it's a good idea.
But I'm not sure if we should do it for the World and (espically) Olympic medals... yet. Olympic would look wierd because there's only one freestyle medal. Not really a point. But World is likely to get bigger sooner, so it would make sense to seperate the FS and GR world medals too. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 00:23, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Armenian wrestling
[edit]Yeah I wish there was somewhere we could go to find the 2011 and 2012 info.
I have to disagree on both of those choices.
Both of us didn't expect to find a women medalist and I bet many Armenians will be thinking the same. So I bet they'd also be suprised and happy to see they're wrong. And Women's wrestling could pick up in popularity and success at any time.
As for the world cup... I kind of agree because I don't think Armenia will come in the top 3 again any time soon, but on the other hand, this is an important phase for Armenian wrestling. This is the first major international wrestling competition Armenia hosted and is an important part of Armenian wrestling history.
So I say keep both.
And on the topic of hosting... http://sport.news.am/arm/news/12763/erevanum-en-brncqamarti-mijazgayin-federaciayi-nerkayacucichnery.html We should mention this in the boxing page. Armenia could be close to hosting the actual World Championships, which is also pretty intriguing. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:06, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Questions and ideas
[edit]I've decided to move forward with the idea of ethnic Armenian Olympians. Do you know how to make categories?
Also, this might sound like a bad idea, so I just want to get your opinion, but do you think it would be a good idea if, on the List of Armenian Olympic medalists page, for Olympic medalists who competed for the Soviet Union, we put somewhere which Soviet Republic they competed for?
The point would be to show who would have actually represented Armenia in the scenario that the Soviet Union was never formed and who wouldn't.
For example, Vladimir Yengibaryan would have won his medal for Armenia because he was born in the Armenian SSR and lived there his whole career, while someone like Nikita Simonyan would be an Olympic medalist for Russia even if the Soviet Union wasn't formed.
We would have to be careful which Republic they lived in. Like, even though Albert Azaryan was born in the Azerbaijan SSR, he moved to the Armenian SSR at a young age and has lived there ever since. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 00:52, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah I knew it wouldn't look great. I was thinking of creating another section with their Soviet Republic and putting "N/A" in all the ones that aren't the USSR, but I like the idea of point out the ones that are from the Arm SSR best. Perhaps we could italiic something or change the color of a box. Just ideas.
Also, what do you think of the category? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ethnic_Armenian_Olympians_who_represented_other_countries
Hope you don't mind I copied the first sentance of your medalist page, which inspired me to make this in the first place. By the way, I'm not sure if I want to include USSR Olympians or not. If you ever find any not listed, please tell me or add them, as will I if I find any missing Armenian Olympic medalists. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:30, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Me to. Anyway, I've been digging up more of our foreign olympians, and I found this
http://www.armeniapedia.org/wiki/Olympics
Of course, this is the same website that said Igor Novikov was Armenian, and the spelling is terrible, so I'm pretty skeptical about it.
Do any of these people sound Armenian to you? I'm pretty sure the first and fourth aren't:
Timur Taimazov, Oleksandr Stepanyan (Wikipedia calls him Zakharuk), Amir Tavakolian, Georgeta Damian, Ditte Kotzian
If Taimazov, Damian and Kotzian are Armenian, they are not only Olympians, but Olympic medalists and can go on your List of Armenian Olympic Medalists article. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:09, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding some recent Armenian article changes
[edit]This user who goes by the name of Kentronhayastan [5], Ive noticed his edits for a while now, and they are not exactly describing who he really is. I mean to clarify to you, what im saying is if you notice his edits on the Armenian articles, he pretends he is doing good to the Armenian history, but in fact, he is corrupting it in a clever way. He is an imposter actually. I noticed for example he added a whole bunch of foreign languages to all the articles on our history, and someone else did a good job of reverting those. He basically is POV pushing just about any time in our history articles of foreign rule. He tried to put Islam in all the history articles, hah, and included like 10 other languages, where it says languages. The person that reverted him did a good job and restored the native language Armenian to be the only main language of those times. Specially the Kingdoms of Armenia , whether they were Ancient, or the Modern kingdoms like Bagratuni, and the Antiquity. He also had purposely removed the Marzpanate Mamikonian period, and the other person asked him to restore it back. Also if you can help out please restore back where it says "Armenia Major" in the Antiquity, to "Kingdom of Armenia", this is what it said earlier and this guy Kentronhayastan reverted it back to Armenia Major. Its suppose to say Kingdom of Armenia, because the only Kingdom of Armenia mentioned first is in the Middle Ages. Its showing that there was no Kingdom of Armenia in ancient times? If you notice he recently also changed Commagene to "Kingdom of Commagene", but didnt change Armenia Major to "Kingdom of Armenia". Please put back the name "Kingdom of Armenia", in our antiquity. Thank you. And if you can also remove Armeno-Phrygian from the History template also, because that was never there, and this imposter which im suspicious of is trying to ruin our history. Also he tried to change the language of the Orontid period, by saying it was Proto-Armenian, it was never Proto-Armenian, and everyone excepts that that was earlier than that time. 66.81.159.105 (talk) 07:11, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Also he is the one that made the new image for the Template [6], the one with the Armenian eternity symbol and Mount Ararat with Khor Virap there in that image on the Template History of Armenia. It use to be the Coat of Arms of Armenia, but now he put this new one which is good. But he wants to restore back the Coat of Arms, when he himself made this new image. He is purposely doing this just to ruin Armenian history and culture. Please vote to keep the new image of eternity symbol and Ararat , instead of the Coat of Arms, which is only about the Modern history. This image is better cause its about all the History etc etc. So when he puts, of if he puts a vote, please vote for the current image on the template. Thanks for your help. 66.81.159.105 (talk) 07:15, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Map Comments
[edit]Hello Yerevanci,
In regards to this map of yours--, very nice job. However, there are a couple of errors and things that I'd like to point out:
- Race and ethnicity are often used interchangeably, and thus it's better to just have all of the countries that enumerate or have previously enumerated people by race and/or ethnicity be in one color (such as red)
- Your map does not have South Sudan as a separate country (this is more of a minor thing, considering that South Sudan became independent in 2011)
- Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, Angola, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Brunei, Burma, Burundi, Cape Verde, the Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Costa Rica, Cote D'Ivoire, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Lesotho, Mali, Monaco, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Vatican City, Vietnam, Yemen, Botswana, Namibia, and all of the former USSR needs to be colored in red. All of these countries also enumerated their population by race and/or ethnicity at some period in time, and some of them still enumerate their population by race and/or ethnicity right now. If this is too much work for you, feel free to do it later or to just delete your map from that article. Thank you very much. Futurist110 (talk) 21:11, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- If you're going by countries that did this since 1991, then Bosnia and Herzegovina and Namibia would count, since they did this in 1991. Bahrain, Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Brunei, Chad, Chile, China, Gabon, Ghana, Guyana, Indonesia, Ireland, Jamaica, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Nepal, Panama, Slovakia, Vietnam, and Yemen should also be included, since they fit into your category. I added info for some countries since you made your map, which might help explain the discrepancy. Burma should have its own color/category, since it would not fit your since 1991 criteria just yet, but it will with its new census in 2014. Futurist110 (talk) 21:30, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- Very nice job on the revised map but there are still a couple of errors. Belize and Vietnam need to be colored red. Nepal also needs to be colored red while Bhutan needs to be colored gray--you mixed those two up on your map. Finally, it would be nice to have color Burma pink since they will have a census for race/ethnicity in two years but it will be their first one in over 20 years. Finally, I added a category for Singapore on my article as well, so Singapore needs to be colored red as well. Also, some tiny island countries (such as Fiji) need to be colored in, but feel free to ignore them on the map since they are too tiny and insignificant (and since the article already mentions them anyway). Futurist110 (talk) 01:13, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- Amazing job. I just added Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda to my article, which means that they will need to be made red on your map. Also, is my DYK? for that article good to go now, or should I do anything else in order to fix it? Futurist110 (talk) 02:17, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- Also, I forgot--Tajikistan needs to be colored red as well. I'm sorry if this is bothersome for you, but I forgot about it before. Futurist110 (talk) 07:23, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

For the Armenians page, I was wondering if you'd agree with the inclusion in the infobox of:
And the outclusion of Cher because she doesn't consider her biological father to be her "real father."
And for the Armenian Americans page, do you agree with the idea of swamping Kim Kardashian's picture with Kirk Kerkorian's? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 02:00, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Glad we could agree on Cher. She didn't even know she was Armenian for a lot of her life. She has no business being there.
- Shahinyan important in my opinion and i got a neat picture of him I'm uploading later. we can decide then. I understans two chess players might seem to much, but they are both from different eras and chess is a big part of Armenian culture. Kerkorian was ranked in the top 50 richest men of all time. I think he's very important. I know you and a lot of people don't like LTP but there's no denying his signifigance. When there are more Armenian presidents, he will very important for being the first. Sirusho might be the most famous current artist and she did arguably win the ESC, which is very well known. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 16:55, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Copyright question about a map
[edit]Regarding this map which you submitted: File:Northern artsakh ethnic map.png. The copyright info says that the map was created by Samvel Karapetian, but is now in the public domain. However, the cited source is a PDF report, which bears these notices: © Samvel Karapetian, 2007, © Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) Organization. So how do we know that this map is in the public domain? The banner says
The person who associated a work with this deed has dedicated the work to the public domain by waiving all of his or her rights to the work worldwide under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights, to the extent allowed by law. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.
Who did the waiving? Was it Samvel Karapetian? Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 06:41, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Yurik Vardanyan
[edit]Hi. You've probably seen it already, but what do you think of the current Vardanyan article? I remember you called him your favorite Olympian so I wanted to be sure you saw it.
The article is near perfect. There's just two problems. First of all, I didn't say exactly why or when Yurik returned to Armenia. Second, There are mentions on some Armenian news sites about him having some sort of current political position (Two examples: http://news.am/eng/news/1390.html http://news.am/eng/news/38790.html) but none specify exactly what that is.
I was wondering if you could help me find the answers, because I bet there is an article somewhere in Armenian or Russian that has the answers I need. If it helps, I believe the Vardanyan's returned to Armenia some time between 2007-2010. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:48, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. But did you find out when and why (if the is a reason why) he returned to Armenia?
- Also, Azaryan's Russian Wikipedia page says he was voted Armenian Athlete of the 2000 century by Armenian sports puplishers. Do you know a source for that? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:51, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I haven't seen any such list, and I'm not sure the electoral authorities of Lebanon maintain such a listing. To be clear regarding Lebanese elections, the candidates are identified by religion whilst the voters aren't. Each seat in parliament is earmarked for a particular religious community, but the eligible voters are all the inhabitants in the area from all religions. In the old set-up (i.e. prior to the Taif Agreement), there were 4 Armenian Orthodox seats, 3 in Beirut I and 1 in Matn, and 1 Armenian Catholic seat (in Beirut I). --Soman (talk) 09:51, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

If I did not make the changes properly and the image I posted was kicked out, although it was there for a week at least, please let me know. Otherwise if it was replaced manually by edit kindly put it back.

[edit]Would you be willing to remove or strike out your comment on Talk:Murder of Sevag Balıkçı that E4024 didn't like? While don't think that your comment quite rises to the level of a personal attack, using a term of endearment for someone you have recently had conflict is likely to be perceived as uncivil, even if you did not mean it that way. In the interest of promoting a more collaborative environment, would you please consider striking/redacting that phrase? Qwyrxian (talk) 13:54, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

- E4024 considers it uncivil because prior conversations the two of you had make it very clear that neither one of you considers the other a friend. There is no way that you could possibly mistake relationship with you as one of friendship. Furthermore, after he indicated that he found it offensive, that should be a clear indication that you may want to reconsider. Help with a song?
[edit]Hi Yerevanci,
This is kind of a random request and isn't really related to Wikipedia matters at all, but I require the help of a native Armenian speaker to help me decipher a song in Armenian. You are the first editor with such qualifications that comes to my mind from the few passing interactions we've had (I'm the guy who helped defend you from some bullying by a local AA-area clique back when you started out, remember? :D), so I figured I'd ask you.
Anyway, the song I'm trying to work out is called "Bari Aragil" (Բարի Արագիլ), specifically this version performed by Serj Tankian (of SOAD fame) and Khachatour Tankian in what is I believe the Western dialect. My main concern is less any translation and more the original Armenian—I like picking up bits and pieces of pretty much any language I can get my hands on, and songs are a great way to do that. I'm working on compiling a text document on my computer at the moment with the Armenian song lyrics in Armenian script, with parallel ad hoc Eastern and Western transliterations; I may try to make a good translation further down the road as well.
Using Armenian lyrics found online for different versions (e.g. [7]) as well as this transliteration of the lyrics and some online translators and dictionaries, I've managed to piece together most of the song. I think I have everything except the 5th stanza (by the reckoning of the "transliteration" link), which has me pretty stumped. This is what I have for that part thus far; gaps in my understanding are indicated:
- Արագիլ, ինձ հետ ուրախ, (???)
- Արագիլ, ինձ հետ ուրախ, (???)
- Արագիլ, ինձ հետ ուրախ, (???)
- Եկուր ինձ հետ ով (?????) ուրախ, բարի արագիլ
So yeah, if you can help me with this, that'd be great! You don't have to, though.
~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 07:04, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm more than happy to help you. Let me give you some information about the song's origin. The lyrics were written by Ashot Grashi in Eastern Armenian, probably in 1940s, though I'm not sure, because I couldn't find the exact date. The music is by Alexey Ekimyan, who was the head of Criminal Investigation Department of Moscow during the Soviets, which is very hard to imagine. Anyway, the song is very popular in Armenia and I don't think you can find one person who never heard it in their lifetime. My grandpa used to sing it also and now when he's dead the value of "Bari Aragil" is even more greater for me.
- The version you mentioned (Tankian's) is more of an improvisation than just a performance of the song. As you may already know, Tankian was born in Lebanon, where Armenians speak the Western dialect, because the overwhelming majority of Lebanese Armenians are Armenian Genocide survivors and their descendants.
- This version by Shusan Petrosyan is more closer to the original, but I do like Tankian's version better, because he and his dad sing it with more emotions.
- The 5th stanza you're talking about isn't part of the original lyrics and it was added by Tankian. I don't where it is from and why Tankian chose to incorporate it into the song. --Երևանցի talk 17:15, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hm, interesting. I figured it had some history behind it, but didn't have time to sift through all the Serj-related links and whatnot to find a good examination on the history. I'd listened to the Petrosyan version as well during my attempts to reconstruct the song, but I like the Tankians' version much better as well—both for their emotions, as you put it, as a longtime Serj/SOAD fan.
- Yeah, I figured that stanza was some sort of improvisational addition. Happens fairly often with these kinds of folk-y songs in pretty much any language, I've found. Can you understand what they are saying in it? ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 20:13, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- It's hard to translate, but I'l give it a try.

- Yar is a colloquial word meaning "dear", mostly used in a romantic way. Sometimes it can mean boyfriend/girlfriend. In this case, it seems to be a nice way of calling the stork.
- I don't know whjat ya dayr means. I don't thinks that's a word, even in the Western dialect. I tried to closely listen what Serj is saying, but couldn't understand. It basically says, "Come with me, kind stork"
- Hope it helped. If you have anymore questions, just ask. I'll try to help as much as I can. If you do care, or are interested in Armenian folk songs, then I suggest listening to Zartir lao. It's like the unofficial anthem of Armenians. --Երևանցի talk 22:07, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- "Ya dayr" (sounds to me closer to "yai dar", but I don't really know) is where I've found myself stuck as well. Can't seem to find a combination of letters there that yields a meaningful result in any dictionary or translator. Like I said, the original Armenian is what interests me most here. I'll keep puttering around with it. Thanks for your help, though! I'll definitely check out Zartir lao as well. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 20:05, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Now, I think Future Sun had some justification to go about deleting the article without submitting it to a vote. There have been instances when certain articles denying the genocide have been speedily deleted and permanently banned from future creation. The topic is a good one, but the title was not. "Falsification of history in Azerbaijan", even if an article with such a name exists on Russian Wiki, comes off as too strong in damning the entire field and sounds more like an essay than an encyclopedia title. If the article is on the Caucasian Albanians, then a much better title would have been "Historiography of Caucasian Albania in Azerbaijan" or if it includes, for example, Nizami, then "Historiography in Azerbaijan," and divide it by subject title.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 18:19, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Arbitration enforcement discretionary sanction: One-month topic ban
[edit]Notice of an arbitration enforcement sanction against you
The following sanction now applies to you in accordance with the procedure described at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions: You are topic-banned for one month from everything related to Armenia or Azerbaijan, broadly interpreted.
The reason for this sanction is recorded in the administrators' noticeboard thread you started, specifically here. This sanction is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2#Standard discretionary sanctions, and is recorded on that page. 2013-02 genocide denial
[edit]Hello,
Since you changed your signature with armenian characters, making obvious your linking with Armenia, I inform you that Bernard Lewis, one of the scholars quoted ("Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century.") by those who fear-monguer about islamisation of Europe, has been convicted-convinced of denial of the armenian genocide. Visite fortuitement prolongée (talk) 21:33, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- I have changed by signature to Armenian characters months ago and that's not the only thing making obvious my link to Armenia and I never tried to hide it. Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and even without writing it in Armenian characters makes it obvious that I'm Armenian, also see my userpage.
- I don't see how that is connected with the Armenian Genocide denial. I'm not a supporter of fear mongering, especially by people who deny historical facts for this or that reason. All I did was list list the EU cities with the most number of Muslims. Linking this to the Eurabia concept isn't nothing but assumption by you. I'm solely interested in sociological and demographic side of this, but of course I also follow the political events that take place around the "islamization of Europe" as claimed by some. --Երևանցի talk 21:58, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

- Yerevanci, is this article you've nominated for DYK mixed up in your month-long ban, or is it one you can still work on? I notice you have been editing on Wikipedia, so if it's one you can safely work on, there are issues that do need to be addressed. You can let me know here rather than there if you think there might be issues posting there; otherwise, a response there would be welcome. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:58, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am only banned from Armenia and Azerbaijan related topics. I'm simply tired of dealing with users like User:Visite fortuitement prolongée. He keeps on deleting the data from Daniel Pipes, who is acknowledged professor, claiming it's a hoax. I'm just distancing myself from users like him, because some admins are just waiting for the moment to ban me, because apparently I cause problems. I have learned to mind my business. --Երևանցի talk 21:29, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- If you're not coming back to the nomination or the article, then I'm afraid the nomination's going to have to be closed: it's been three weeks since Carabinieri raised those issues with the article, and from what you've just said, they won't be addressed. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:23, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- I stated the reason why I'm not editing, the rest is your job. Do whatever you think is right. --Երևանցի talk 21:34, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Mark Van Bommel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Mark Van Bommel.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:48, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit]The fact that you disagree with an edit or consider it incorrect or not properly sourced does not make it "vandalism". Do you know what vandalism means? Please assume good faith before making insulting comments. Your kind of behaviour is why new editors are driven away from Wikipedia. 93.107.158.87 (talk) 16:28, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have no problem with good faith edits, but look here "Platon Elenin". There are only 3,570 results on Google and that source of BBC is the only reliable one. --Երևանցի talk 16:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok, then if you have no problem with good faith edits please do not make accusations of vandalism without good reason. "Vandalism" is not the same thing as any edit you happen to disagree with. If you think additional sources are necessary then you can just say so without insulting other contributors. That kind of arrogant attitude is what gives Wikipedia a bad name. Thanks. 93.107.158.87 (talk) 20:28, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia doesn't have a bad name because of users like me who have been here for years and have contributed to it much more than unregistered users like you, sir. Why don't you just register and start making relevant edits yourself? If you add something that is only mention in a 9-year old BBC source, that is vandalism, because it's reliability is highly questionable. --Երևանցի talk 20:34, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Vazgen Sargsyan parade.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Vazgen Sargsyan parade.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Another note about cut-and-paste moves
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give List of leaders of Armenia a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. —David Levy 14:07, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

I created the article Hakafashist. But in one source it is transliterated as "haga-fashist" and in one as "hakafashist". I understand that in eastern Armenian, haka is better than haga, but what about the dash? should it be hakashist or haka-fascist? --Soman (talk) 19:32, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, in Eastern Armenian կ is k, while in Western its g. It's hard to say whether we need a dash or not. I don't think there is a dash. I'm almost 95% sure. I would spell it out as it is now. Newspaper names shouldn't be translated. --Երևանցի talk 20:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Armenian IP
[edit]Hello, Yerevanci. Recently, I've been trying to deal with an Armenian editor (with a stable IP address) who is persistently changing the article Tsaxkadzor (supposedly a place in Azerbaijan) to be about the Armenian town of Tsaghkadzor, even though we already have an article on that place. Today I've made my final attempt at leaving a message on the user's talk page, but I fear that the user's English may not be up to understanding it. I wonder if you could leave a brief message in Armenian at User talk:212.34.229.98, explaining that we don't want two articles about the same town. It would be a shame to have to block the user merely because of a problem in communication. Deor (talk) 13:27, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Karabakh War
[edit]Iran also supported Azerbaijan via humanitarian support. Iran didn´t provide arms to Armenia, there´s no proof for that. Israel was selling weaponry to Azerbaijan for exchange for oil, but it didn´t give military aid. It´s an important difference. MosMusy (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:32, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- If Iran supported Azerbaijan as you claim, then why don't you just add Iran to the Azerbaijan column? Don't forget to add sources. I don't see how it is significant that Israel supposedly traded arms with oil, they still supported Azerbaijan, didn't they? --Երևանցի talk 23:37, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Iran supplied Armenia with Gas and general trade, with Azerbaijan they supplied them with humanitarian aid and also threatened Armenia when we liberated lands near Iranian border. I'd say Iran during this time was fairly balanced. As for Israel, yes there was weapons trade, also remember Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were supplying Azerbaijan with weapons as well. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Nerkaght
[edit]Hello. I think you should translate information from Armenian into English and turn your contribution on nerkaght into a Wikipedia article.
Also, as I am the unofficial historian of the Armenian-Cypriot community, do you happen to have more information regarding the arrival and settlement of Armenians from Cyprus? Mind you, their number was not 505, but 576 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenians_in_Cyprus#Nerkaght). More importantly, we know of 4-5 families who left Cyprus in the 1940s. Is there any information available on that? Neo ^ (talk) 02:51, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hello! As you can see it its not finished yet. I have been working on other articles lately. It still needs to be cleaned up.
- It is not my figure, if you have a reliable source that their number was not 505, but 576 then please let me know so I can change it.
- No, I have only used information available online. --Երևանցի talk 03:05, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Parev. The numbers on (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenians_in_Cyprus#Nerkaght) come from "Haravgi" newspaper of the time, a Greek-language left-wing newspaper in Cyprus, which extensively covered the repatriation. It is very reliable, I think, as we have exact numbers for each time they went to Armenia. And perhaps you should start translating it into English and adding it part by part. Shnorhagal em!
