The result was Keep per WP:SNOW (non-admin closure). jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 03:44, 9 November 2007 (UTC) Result endorsed. Good call, user should think about adminship. Hiding Talk 15:38, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lacks real world notability, cannot be cited to meet WP:FICT, solely a plot summary from which no real world context can emerge Pilotbob 05:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment; Rincewind? Rincewind the Wizzard? He's the main character of several hugely successful books, and he's going to be portrayed by David Jason, possibly the most famous TV actor in the UK. That's real-world notability. Masaruemoto 06:11, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I've heard of him and I've never read the books. According to Imdb, he was voiced by Eric Idle. Fee Fi Foe Fum 08:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep Some of the articles about fictional characters, places, etc. that Pilotbob has nominated (Discworld languages, for instance) probably do fail to meet the notability guideline. But as stated above, Rincewind the Wizzard is a central character in the Discworld series, and sources are quite easy to find online. I hate not to assume good faith, but I can't imagine the nominator even bothered looking for sources before nominating. A Google search of "Rincewind Discworld" turns up over 95,000 results. A search for just "Rincewind" 795,000 results. Wikipedia does have a problem with cruft from fictional series, and there are many pages that are in need of a merge or deletion, but this is not the case here. Rincewind is an important character from a highly successful series, akin to Albus Dumbledore or Frodo Baggins. The article needs help, that's clear, but to nominate it for deletion is frankly ridiculous.faithless (speak) 08:18, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
SpeedyKeep per WP:N, although I think the article needs to be cleaned up and refocused as recommended by WP:FICT. --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 08:27, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]- Strong keep! Who made these nominations? This is the character that launched a whole Discworld industry! He starred in the first novels which led to dozens more novels plus graphic novels, comics, calendars, games, cartoons, and other media. Doczilla 09:52, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep A major character in a very popular series, played by Eric Idle in a computer game and more importantly David Jason in the upcoming Sky mini-series. Certainly enough notability to be retained. I have to echo the above and question why this was nominated in the first place.Alberon 10:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep but cleanup, an encyclopedic article is possible. Hiding Talk 10:55, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete as article has no primary sources to verify to identify which fansites this plot summary has been transcribed from. There are no reliable secondary sources to demonstrate the notability of this fictional character outside of the Discworld canon. --Gavin Collins 11:03, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Gavin Collins, please assume good faith, and refrain from making baseless accusations of plagiarism. -Harmil 12:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment No such accusation was made, nor any accusation of copyvio or original research. I think it is perfectly alright to transcribe material from other sources, like Discworld & Pratchett wiki, particularly if there are citations showingtheir sources. My gripe with this article is that there are no footnotes to trace back to the orgininal source. --Gavin Collins 13:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- The problem is not that you are correct or incorrect, it is that you are assuming and making accusations of bulk copying without any evidence. This is inappropriate. -Harmil 13:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SpeedyStrong Keep per faithless, jonny-mt & Doczilla --AliceJMarkham 12:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]- Keep per above, but speedy isn't appropriate. The article was listed in good faith because it's not sourced, and that's a real problem that should be fixed to reflect what we all obviously know. -Harmil 12:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- You're right about speedy not being appropriate. My fault for not properly reading through WP:SK. --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 13:20, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep on account of this being an article about the highly notable Rincewind the Wizzard. Is it time to WP:SNOW this yet? AndyJones 14:00, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. Probably the best-known character from the Discworld universe. Pinball22 14:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - Best known character in the Discworld series. Deleting Rincewind is almost like deleting Harry Potter. Ben W Bell talk 15:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong keep, obviously notable, anyone familiar with the Discworld books will know that. 96T 15:56, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep Major character of seven books which have all sold in the millions...one of the most recognizable figures in possibly the worlds biggest and most popular fantasy series...being played in a major TV adaptation by David Jason...what more can a fictional character do to become notable? - Keep obviously. I think the nominator is out to prove a point. Guy (Help!) 01:05, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep. He's about the only character from Discworld I can name off the top of my head.--uɐɔlnʌɟoʞǝɹɐs 02:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep The idea of deleting this page is utterly ludicrous and bespeaks of someone with a grudge. WookMuff 02:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
