Mistakenly uploaded PeterNoone1964 (talk) 12:55, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@PeterNoone1964: Just a thought. Since you uploaded it, and as the sole author you are requesting deletion, doesn't it qualify for speedy deletion via general criterion G7 (author/self)? I believe it can be tagged with Template:Db-g7 instead of XfD, as mentioned on WP:Files for deletion#Listing images and media for deletion as the first step under the "What not to list here" section. ~ scribble · ink chat\contrib 23:46, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Deleted - The general consensus here is that we don't host non-free images to show something exists, we use text to describe it instead. - Peripitus (Talk) 07:09, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:NOPLDontBeAfraidToBeAmazing.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Infrogmation (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Mural showing a quote by Andy Offutt Irwin used in an article about Andy Offutt Irwin, not the painter of the mural. While this might be appropriate fair use in an article about the painter (as an example of her work), it seems hard to argue that it meets WP:NFCC#8 here. B (talk) 15:14, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: I am the photographer. I took the photo and uploaded it at specific request of another editor, User:A Softer Answer if I remember correctly. I posted notice about this deletion discussion on A Softer Answer's talk page and the talk page of the Andy Offutt Irwin article. I know little about Andy Offutt Irwin and hence cannot address questions of the relevance/importance of the image to the subject, so take no position on deletion. -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:41, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: I am the editor that requested the upload of the photo to the article. The photo is relevant to this section of the article because it illustrates how widely the quote is used. There is no Wikipedia article on the artist. If there was an article, I could move the photo there and then reference it on Irwin's page with a 'see also' note. Since there is no page for the artist and if the photo is removed, the strongest example of the Irwin's quote being widely used and influential would disappear. Book cover of a book about a living person used, not for commentary on the book, but, rather, as a stock photo of the living person. Though this person is in his 90's, he was a very public figure for over a half a century, numerous photos of him were taken, and we certainly have a reasonable expectation that either a photo could be donated or one could be found that was published in the US without a copyright notice prior to 1978. Moved it to commons, but the image is available at http://balurghatpuja2010.blogspot.ie/ - posted by Posted by AyaN, who is a photographer - found at www.ayanhore.com/. Deadstar (talk) 17:04, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • This discussion is probably moot, but it should be keep at Commons - the user self-identifies as AyaN. [1]. There is another (deleted) image he uploaded in which he claims to be AyaN: File:Balurghat-Airport-RGH.jpg. It's possible that he's engaged in a four-year campaign to impersonate this other person, but more likely that he really is AyaN and the license is legitimate. --B (talk) 22:06, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan photo with a PD license tag, but a description that says the photo is owned by Sweet Adelines International. Wittylama 23:17, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

From googling [2], User:Amdowling is a senior employee of Sweet Adelines International and presumably was acting on her employer's authority when posting this. It seems reasonable to use the image in Sweet Adelines International. You nominated at Commons two images uploaded by kkirchhoff (talk · contribs) and, again, from googling [3], kkirchoff (talk · contribs) is another important person in this organization. These two people are the ones who put out PR for their organization, so it's pretty likely the license is legitimate. --B (talk) 02:19, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting indeed, thanks for doing this research! I see that they've a history of uploading similar content that got deleted - see User_talk:Kkirchhoff. It seems unlikely that the organisation would give them permission to release it as PD (rather than CC-By-SA) and, given the history of these two people uploading poorly described/licensed and low-resolution images I'm guessing they're not fully grasping the implications of the copyright release that they're making (to the point that your digging-work was required to identify that they do indeed have some legitimate claim to make this upload in the first place! I guess this one needs to have its metadata improved and ported over to Commons (and placed in the "category:Sweet Adelines International" Wittylama 10:43, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
