Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Brazil
Points of interest related to Brazil on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Brazil. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Brazil|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Brazil. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to South America.

Subject does not meet WP:GNG, WP:SINGER, or WP:ACTOR. All the references are either the subjects own website, or self-published sources that are promotional in nature. Also appears to have been deleted in the past with the discussion here. The page creator deleted the PROD tag so I am bringing it to AfD. cyberdog958Talk 01:11, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. I strongly believe that the deletion of the biography is unnecessary, given that the article was created based on solid and reliable references.
The subject of the biography has sufficient relevance to be included in the encyclopedia, especially within the context of the underground synthpop movement in the Northeast, which reinforces the importance of its preservation.
The biography is well-founded, containing sources that support the facts and a structure that provides appropriate backing.
Deleting the article would result in the loss of valuable information about the subject and, consequently, about an important musical movement within the Brazilian underground scene. The article still has significant potential for expansion, deepening the understanding of the cultural and historical impact of the underground synthpop movement and the unique contribution of the subject.
Keeping this article is a way to preserve and disseminate knowledge about an important part of Brazilian music and culture from the north, which deserves recognition and documentation.
Therefore, removing the article would be a setback in documenting this movement, as the encyclopedia plays a crucial role in recording and preserving cultural diversity.
The biography not only contributes to understanding the underground movement but also highlights the subject's relevance within this musical scene. The Artist was recognized by the Museu da Pessoa as one of the most important people, both in activism and art, please do not remove this biography. https://museudapessoa.org/pessoa/rodrigo-barbosa-da-silva/ https://nonbinary.wiki/wiki/Driggu_Florentino Moniiquedecastro (talk) 05:40, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

- Hi, could you please take a look at these references I found? I believe they demonstrate how important the article is for cataloging visual artists. The information that was removed was correct and well-founded, so it would be great if you could reconsider that. Moniiquedecastro (talk) 22:09, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

- Delete Fails WP:ARTIST. WP:TOO SOON and lacks reliable sourcing. I am not finding any good sources or evidence of notability. (same reasons as 2022). --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:49, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

- Keep, although I do not like that the second source (Invisibilities) does not seem to actual be from Wall Street International. Otherwise, the article appears to include several international, significante sources.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 16:06, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

While tragic, there is no indication that this airplane crash meets WP:GNG or WP:NEVENT; if there was significant, long-lasting coverage, I can't find any sources to prove it. And I have no reason to believe there is likely to be long-lasting coverage: three deaths, crashed into the forest, and the crash was caused by pilot error.
Current three sources/links, used here and on the deWiki article, are unusable for notability/unusable.[1] is a user-generated wiki, [2] is a government report on the crash (they're required to make these for every single incident), [3] is a YouTube video of a cockpit recording. My WP:BEFORE revealed two YouTube videos:[4] [5], both unusable.
I have no prejudice against selectively merging/redirecting, should a suitable target be found. Given the limited ramifications of the initial crash, even if the topic can be shown notable a stand-alone page would likely not be warranted GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 03:04, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

- Weak keep: it received reasonable coverage in Portuguese-language sources, as per pt:Voo VASP Cargo 780#Referências (note: there was no interlanguage link before). fgnievinski (talk) 03:13, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link! I'll have a look through them. The ptWiki does appear to be of better quality than the enWiki and deWiki articles.
- Then there's four 1992 news reports, all dated to within a day of the accident. The ptWiki links are broken, but the headlines appear to be the fairly routine "a plane crash happened, people died" type story that, while useful, was something I knew was likely to exist and doesn't change my arguments about WP:NEVENT, lasting coverage, WP:GNG, and WP:PAGEDECIDE.
- The information about a social media user visiting the plane crash is new to me, however. For reference, here are the links:
- Both of these article, to me, mostly seem to focus on the influencer's trip to the site of the planecrash. They each spare a paragraph or two to sum up the crash itself, but it's mostly spent discussing the influencer. I'm also not an expert in Brazilian newspapers, especially very local ones, but I'm having a hard time finding information about either news source. juruaonline.com.br does not have an "about me" type page- all attempts to get one redirect you to their "advertise with us"/"submit a story" type pages. juruaemtempo.com.br does actually give you some information about its reporters, but none of them were apparently willing to attach their name to this piece. So far, they are still the only examples of any WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE we have for this crash. And while these two sources are not enough to prove notability to me (I really don't think this article says anything that isn't already covered in List of accidents and incidents involving the Boeing 737#1990s), they might be enough for somebody else to decide this is notable. So, thank you again for finding them @Fgnievinski! GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 03:46, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- I also did a quick search for sources and can't find any online newspaper articles about the event. [12] fgnievinski (talk) 03:59, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

- Delete per nom – Per WP:GNG and WP:EVENTCRIT: The event does not have in-depth, significant nor sustained continued coverage. Additionally, no lasting effects nor long-term impacts on a significant region have been demonstrated as a result of the accident. Criterion #4 of the event criteria states that routine kinds of news events including most accidents – whether or not tragic or widely reported at the time – are usually not notable unless something further gives them additional enduring significance, which this accident lacks.
