If you would like to help, feel free to add yourself to the list of participants. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for the project, please visit the project discussion page.

  • Classical genetics
  • Genetic traits
  • Genomics
  • Molecular genetics
  • Gene regulation
  • Related technologies (e.g. genetic engineering)

Collaborations

[edit]

WikiProject Genetics collaborates on projects with several academic journals. If you're preparing articles for either of these collaborations and need help or advice from a Wikipedian, reach out to an active taskforce member.

Gene Wiki

The journal Gene publishes review articles on human gene families that are partnered with Wikipedia pages through the Gene Wiki initiative.

PLOS topic pages

The journal PLOS Genetics publishes review articles on core genetics topics that replace existing Wikipedia pages through the Topic Page initiative.

Tasks

[edit]

If you are interested in editing, please help improve these pages! Even if you are new to editing, don't worry about making mistakes. People will be watching and helping as needed.

Barnstars will be available to anyone who completes a major task!

To-do list

[edit]
  • Nuclear gene (13 daily views) is a high-importance stub. Let's improve it!
  • Over 400 articles have unknown importance. Please use WP:AWB with the Kingbotk plugin or User:Evad37/rater to help assess these articles.
  • As of July 2019, there are more stub articles (1810) than start (1758) articles. Please help us increase our number of start-class articles to be greater than our number of stubs. We are currently 97.13% of the way there!
  • Create missing gene stubs for WP:notable genes using a tool:
    1. Look up the "Gene ID" number on NCBI Gene for a missing gene entry in Homo sapiens
    2. Append that number to http://genewiki.sulab.org/wiki/article/create/ (e.g., TAAR9: 134860http://genewiki.sulab.org/wiki/article/create/134860/)
    3. Navigate to that url, click "Toggle Stub Code", and copy/paste the output into a new Wikipedia article about the gene
