Wikipedia:WikiProject Geology/Tasks
Main | Organization | Participants | Open tasks | Assessment | Peer reviews | Resources | Showcase |
The open tasks page is divided into two sections. A shorthand version of all the open tasks, the to-do list, and a longer version of project task which includes more detailed descriptions. Please keep in mind to always edit things in both sections so people can get an up to date overview over what needs to be done. Please suggest improvements for a specific article on its own talk page. If you can't get any help there you can requests help with an article on this project's talk page.

Wikipedia Version 1.0 Collections
[edit]The Version 1.0 Editorial Team has several lists of topics that try to identify the most important articles. Some extracts are listed below as an aid for setting priorities for this project.
Core topics
[edit]Core topics is a list of the 150 most important articles in Wikipedia, in the opinion of the editorial team. The Geology articles are listed below:
Earth
Geology
Mineral
Vital articles
[edit]Wikipedia:Vital articles contains a list of about 1000 basic subjects for which Wikipedia should have a corresponding high-quality article, and ideally a featured article. Here are the Geology articles (not already listed above) with their current ratings:
Near Featured Article status
[edit]The following articles are almost ready for FA-nomination:
Near Good Article status
[edit]The following articles are almost ready for GA-nomination - if someone wants to put in a little work they could take them there!
- History of the Earth - citations need checking (see to do list)
- Ice age - a comprehensive article, needs considerable honing
- Impact event - Good content but needs a lot of tidy-up.
Requested articles
[edit]There are a couple of lists that contain requested articles that could fall into the scope of this project:
- Skysmiths list
- Wikipedia: Requested articles: Environment and Geology
- Wikipedia: Requested articles: Natural sciences
If you would like to add a request here, you can do so in the following list:
- Geology of Cyprus
- Kirill Simakov (1935-2004), Russian stratigrapher and paleontologist
- Preludhamian, a UK glacial stage
- Remanié deposit, a residual geological deposit
- Geology of Nepal
- Draft:Gail_Tverberg (edit | [[Talk:Draft:Gail_Tverberg|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) or see User_talk:Cryptic#Gail_Tverberg_--_uncontroversial_delete. For those interested proposed relationships between Peak oil and the financial system. Whether you agree with Tverberg or not, this is an attempt to rescue an important story from erasure. The article needs work.
- Potomac marble, Not really a marble, it is an aggregate found near Washington DC. It is a colorful stone that is used in many public buildings such as the US Capitol. Odd we do not have an article.--''Paul, in Saudi'' (talk) 08:59, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Carbonate ramp - we have carbonate platform where perhaps ramps could be added, but does it deserve its own article - and shelf too? See https://www.researchgate.net/publication/249550189_Carbonate_ramps_An_introduction for example Geopersona (talk) 08:08, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
