"The Wikipedia Signpost" and "Simple News"

[change source]

Shouldn't the heading for Wikipedia:Simple News be "Simple News" instead of "The Wikipedia Signpost"? If so, can someone do that? – RyanCross (talk) 20:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I actually only created it as that name for a test, but if Simple News sounds better... :) Kennedy (talk) 20:07, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think Simple News fits us better. Makes it more of an individual news thing.--   ChristianMan16  19:20, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, well the first issue was called "Signpost", but I can do a new logo now called "Simple News"?
Thanks,
BG7even 19:21, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great IMO.--   ChristianMan16  22:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe already done ;) BG7even 23:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Error in the 11-15-2008 issue

[change source]

Hey there. Good job with the first newsletter, but there is an error in the issue. There is supposed to be a |} at the bottom of the newsletter, or else the template will continue down the talk page. Now there are errors on several user talk pages. — RyanCross (talk) 03:31, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've fixed it now on everyone's talk page. Please make sure there is a |} at the end of the newsletter next time. Thanks, — RyanCross (talk) 03:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers Ryan,
We did know about the issue, and it has already been fixed in future issues.
Thanks,
BG7even 10:46, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's good. Thanks, — RyanCross (talk) 18:45, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome - any more input is gratefully recieved!
Thanks,
BG7even 18:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could we move this?

[change source]

I think we should move Simple News to the Wikipedia namespace. Does anyone agree with that? Techman224Talk 00:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should be proposed at Simple Talk, which I will do after the second issue has been delivered. If you want to propose it there earlier, then be my guest! :D Kennedy (talk) 08:45, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should try and have an edition every two weeks. I know it would be quite hard, (but not that hard) but it would be better. I'm ready to do whatever I can, write article, anything. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 17:56, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... it's a good idea in principle, but let's leave it as it is until the new year at least. It's still only had one issue, with the second nearly done, and personally i'm just worried if enough happens in one week!
Thoughts anyone else?

I would like to be interviewed

[change source]

I would like to participate in an interview. How do I go about being interviewed by Kennedy? Jonas D. Rand T 20:52, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By asking me would be a good start :) I have added you to the list: here. Regards, Kennedy (talk) 21:12, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. Tharnton345 21:36, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mailing List

[change source]

Hey all,

What do people think of getting a wikimedia Mailing List for Simple News? This would allow us greater flexibility with what we can do, and could also add another delivery option via email, or perhaps even in a .pdf format as a "proper" e-newsletter.

It could also allow for off-wiki discussions (sometimes a good thing) and could be expanded further than we currently have. Supplements could also be produced at certain occasions.

What do people think?

BG7even 16:38, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really know... It's quicker and easier for me to read it on Wikipedia. We could consider the idea anyway. Yotcmdr✼ Merry Christmas ! ✼ 19:00, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. The on-wiki option would of course still be available! Thanks, BG7even 22:09, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

January 19th issue note

[change source]

The January 19th issue currently has a section that is entitled QandA. I think that being this website's newspaper, you should try to get the issues to be as professional and simple as you can make them. I would therefore like to suggest that that section be named Q&A as that looks better and is more professional than what is currently there at the moment. Cheers, Razorflame 21:42, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Razoroflame,
I accept your points but I also disagree with them for two key reasons. Many newspapers and magazines have sections with a specific title, even though that may not be the way it would be done in normal practice. This is what we have. Secondly, some users of Simple may not know what the ampersand (&) is and/or does, therefore words are always better than symbols.
Thanks,
BG7even 23:34, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I understand exactly what you are saying and I know that sometimes, they might not be exactly what is conventional, however, with its' current title, I think that it would be more confusing than something like Q and A (having the Q spaced from the and and the and spaced from the A). If you were to title it like Q and A, that would make it easier to read, however, if you want the name of the section to stay the way it is, I am fine with that ;). I am just kind of anal about grammar and stuff like that ;). Cheers, Razorflame 23:39, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with Razorflame. Would someone learning English know what "QandA" meant? I don't know if they'd make the connection that it means Questions and Answers. Either way (talk) 23:48, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The same goes for Q and A though ;). I'm going to leave it as it is, simply because we go on to explain what the section is, and also because it's not "my" section, it's Kennedy's. BG7even 23:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. I fully understand the reason why the section is named the way it is now and I think that by leaving it the way it is would be the best course of action. Cheers, Razorflame 00:03, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okie dokie ;) Feel free to contribute btw ;) BG7even 00:10, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

54, 000th article

[change source]

On this month's issue, the 54, 000th article isn't up. TurboGolf 05:21, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Development stalled

[change source]

As Bluegoblin7 is currently on a (possibly long) wikibreak right now, is there anyone else going to take up the development of this? We are quite a few weeks behind already. Chenzw  Talk  13:46, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I've slipped behind also. I have changed the future dates, moved the missing publication to a new date. I will write an article over the weekend/next week. Hopefully others can get it done in time for delivery by Monday 2nd March :) Kennedy (talk) 14:04, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it that there was absolutely no mention of American sport in last Simple News? Cricket and rugby were included, why shouldn't baseball be? I'd also like not to get an answer of "American sports fail :P" to this. We should be hearing about sport that matters to our editors, and a good number of us are American. Great, all you forgot was the diaper and the bottle. :P Shappy talk 18:35, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
:P. Nah, in all seriousness, we Europeans generally don't know anything about American Sport, and I wouldn't know what was popular enough to be included, nor where to look. Therefore, we need some Americans to have a look. Goblin 18:36, 20 July 2009 (UTC) I ♥ Nifky![reply]

where's my paper?

[change source]

Where's my paper?! It's 5 days late! Griffinofwales (talk) 19:17, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simple News is on hold for now. It isn't easy to maintain without BG7. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 19:21, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. He's back so I should be getting it shortly. Griffinofwales (talk) 19:23, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He isn't back. He's merely looking after his bot. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 19:25, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, and they blocked him to "improve the wiki" and now we can't get our newspaper, which IMO is the most fun thing to look forward to here. Major improvement :( --<font=Comic Sans MS>S3CR3T 19:30, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Well, at least the bot will keep working (and messing up). Griffinofwales (talk) 19:33, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(Related subject) I could help. If I could just have the names and the template, I could save it in my computer, so that if the bot breaks down again, they would still get it on time. Hey, it doesn't matter that it's late here, but I'm just trying to keep everyone happy. Loudclaw (talk) 03:59, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What does the news section have to do with the wiki? Griffinofwales (talk) 02:09, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. –Juliancolton | Talk 02:09, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed... but said sections have not been placed in the latest issue, so it's really a non-starter... Goblin 08:45, 25 October 2009 (UTC) I ♥ GoblinBots![reply]
We have a news section with links to articles. It's a way to improve articles which are current events. Could be interesting, and gain a bigger audience, maybe even new editors, as people (I think) look up those kind of articles. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 08:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

The redirect Wikipedia:Simple News/Current hadn't been updated, I fixed it. This sounds like a job for a bot. Davidwr (talk) 01:23, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Idiom: "Keep your eyes out for future Issues!"

[change source]

I assume the Simple News should use simple English. Keep your eyes out is highly idiomatic. (What, you want me to take my eyes out? Where should I keep them?) "Look for future issues" would be easier to understand. I didn't edit the page itself because I'm not clear if Simple News is an editable "publication" or not. I made the edit because this appears to be a living document, not a one-time "issue" of SN. - Regards, PhilipR (talk) 06:59, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've subscribed in Simple News from ever since I remember, but I haven't gotten any newspaper delivery (even though some other editors have, it seems, according to my watchlist). Is it because I didn't subscribe in the collapsible box list? Or because my name is changed from Pretty Lydie -> Belinda? No worries, though, I already read the whole Simple News through looking at everybody else's talk pages , so you don't need to deliver a new one. I'd still appreciate an explanation, please, from any participant in this project. ingly, Bella tête-à-tête 05:04, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Belinda. I was asked in IRC yesterday to run a script to deliver it this time, and I just took the list straight from the subscribe page. For that reason it was delivered to Pretty Lydie. So I'm sorry for that :). I updated your name on the list. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 05:15, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
^What he said. As a general note to anyone who else might be reading this, if you change your username you should really check the page yourself to see that you're signed up, as it's not for the Editors/Deliverers to check that every user on the list is still here/called that. Goblin 19:31, 18 November 2010 (UTC) I ♥ Fr33kman![reply]
Ah, I see. :) I thought it would naturally redirect to my talk page. Anyway, thank you for updating my name, Grunny dear! ingly, Bella tête-à-tête 07:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've subscribed too. I still don't have it. Please deliver it, I just subscribed for a while ago, and I never got it. I subscribed for the latest one. Please deliver. Thanks. I'm just here under a nickname. Loudclaw. I am really IanP. Loudclaw (talk) 03:55, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for 2011 issues

[change source]

Hi, I have a suggestion: To make Simple News published once every month. This way, we don't really have to rush to make a new issue. What do you guys think? Hydriz (talk) 02:29, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm. My one doesn't get delivered so I subscribe to the global Wikipedia Signpost. Mr. Berty (seasons greetings!) talk/stalk 11:42, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrongly linked at Wikidata

[change source]

This is linked to the article w:The Signpost at Wikidata. In my opinion it should not. Ottawahitech (talk) 20:21, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ottawahitech, it is not wrongly linked at Wikidata. Wikipedia:Simple News is correctly linked at Wikidata on item (Q7395165). That item is a list of links to the actual newsletters on all Wikipedias as opposed to articles about the English Wikipedia publication The Signpost. The Wikidata item for that is (Q16639816). The newly created article The Signpost which is specifically about the English Wikipedia publication is correctly linked to the latter item. Voceditenore (talk) 11:29, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
