I have revertlisted the three, and will blacklist these three now immediately (XLinkBot will detect redirects to this site, so it will detect others that do the same), but I'd like a specialist to have a look at this rubbish to see if there is more here that needs blacklisting. 119 links, noticed while cleaning up an unrelated spam link in IBM. Based on its homepage, is "Your personal connections manager, helping you reach the people you know". A small sampling shows "Profiles" spammed to WP articles about businesses/businesspeople/lawyers. Don't know if the sad little IBM profile is typical. Hm, turns out we have an article, Spoke (website); guessing we should treat it like Facebook and LinkedIn? (don't know the policy on these). --CliffC (talk) 19:18, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I dispute the accusation of this person, and see this as a an unjust threat to my works. I identified myself as the publisher of the rankings on wikipedia, as I have stated on the Template talk:Infobox US university ranking. GrapedApe ignores my reiteration that I am not affiliated with the website, and concludes from his own opinion and misrepresentation that I am pushing on behalf of this website as its owner. I demand the fact be checked. This is false accusation and harassment. Once the fact-finding has justified my real status, I demand a formal apology from GrapedApe, for his statement and disregard for the facts has unjustly defamed me. amzn.to

[edit]

I have noticed a few links to amzn.to, looking up these seem to be legit Amazon links to be used within Twitter etc. Shortened links are no consideration here, and I have noticed longer Amazon links are being replaced with the shortened ones, which doesn't seem to have any advantage here. Is it possible these can be used for the purpose of spam, with affiliate/marketplace links etc? Is there any guidelines for dealing with shorted links, as they can effectively hide what they're really linking to. Rehevkor 15:48, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Most (not all!) linkshorteners/redirect services get onto the meta blacklist without question (and even without abuse). This may be an exception, but I think that if 'abuse' (and/or good faith additions of 'bad' links) is noticed, then that is indeed what should happen with this as well,  Defer to Global blacklist. (I've ordered COIBot to save a report on this, lets see how it is used and what is added). --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:00, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Travel Spam. Gusx (talk) 17:36, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comments - I reported Gusx for spamming his site above at [45], and after some discussion at my talk page [46] he stopped adding links. The above report seems to be a misunderstanding by Gusx of the meaning of 'spam', as User:Student7 has 37,000-plus Wikipedia edits and added a single reference link supporting one of several edits that improved the Kos article. IMO this is not a valid report. --CliffC (talk) 04:34, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't misunderstand we had a discussion in your talk page and you gave me some urls to read like this one WP:LINKSPAM the wikipedia link article says: Affiliate links Even if they are related to the subject or is an official page for the subject, external links containing affiliate or referral codes are considered spam. I didn't know it you had send me those links so i read them. Btw it doesn't say anywhere that if a person has 37,000 plus wikipedia edits can post affiliate links. Or explain me if i contribute a text paragraph and then a link reference link with affiliate is ok.

Thanks for your understanding Gusx (talk) 08:05, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand it (anyone else, feel free to jump in here), an "affiliate link" has a trailing tag to indicate what site the link came from. The single link we're talking about, "www.kosisland.gr/en/kos-today.html" does not have such a tag and thus is not an affiliate link. Further, it is not an "external link" either, it is an inline link supporting the statement "A person from Kos is called a 'Koan.' The word is also a possessive, as in 'Koan goods'". The linked site is indeed a commercial one, which we try to avoid if we can, and I encourage you to find and substitute a non-commercial one that supports the 'koan' statement'. As mentioned in how not to be a spammer, you can contribute a text paragraph if it is cited to a reliable source. Note that point 1 of how not to be a spammer is "Review your intentions. Wikipedia is not a space for personal promotion or the promotion of products, services, web sites, fandoms, ideologies, or other memes." I doubt that User:Student7 is promoting the web site he used as a citation. --CliffC (talk) 17:28, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
