Clowningar (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · blacklist hits · AbuseLog · what links to user page · count · COIBot · Spamcheck · user page logs · x-wiki · status · Edit filter search · Google · StopForumSpam) Not sure if this is spam, COI, or neither: User has tried unsuccessfully to create an article on the World Mentoring Academy and is putting links to the Academy's language-learning MOOCs on multiple language pages. Many of these links have been reverted, but user claims they pass the spam and COI guidelines. Some official guidance as to whether these links are acceptable would be great. Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 20:00, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Aristophanes68:Woo,, hold on a bit, World Mentoring Academy is in a sandbox. I have not hired wikipr, or other scammers using sock puppet Editor accounts to force entry's in Wikipedia. The Language links are simular to * FSI French language course which is free like World Mentoring Academy,, the difference is WMA is a Learning Management System using the creative commons non commercial lic, with no banners, advertising, etc.
Why do I work for no $'s( http://www.ocregister.com/articles/williams-522495-says-one.html? ) This is a project to help humanity, we are currently working with NGO's to bring education to the 3rd World. We have many other projects helping humanity, and I chose to live on $230/month supporting web hosting, sleeping outside,, cause I believe in Humanity.. and this Educational MOOC is more significant than a Porn star's cup size and Klingon. just sayin.Clowningar (talk) 20:31, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
I agree that the links are not appropriate.
In my experience, the External Links sections of language-related articles tend to be filled with inappropriate external links.
We need a lot more eyes on such articles so editors like Clowningar aren't being given the wrong impression as to what is and is not appropriate. --Ronz (talk) 20:52, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
@Ronz, yes I do have the impression that similar links get included. I do think you need to have clearer guidance from Wikipedia HQ. The list doesn't include non commercial MOOC courses relating to learning Language. Several Languages have a Language courses category.Clowningar (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Links relating to learning a language are not appropriate in the external links section, just like that links to pages presenting recipes are not appropriate on a page about a dish. Whether free, non-commercial, or whatever, they fail our guidelines for inclusion. Please do not include such links. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:04, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
I was going through some of the articles, and see some aggravating cases. I removed a list of them on Amharic language (but see them also elsewhere), but got reverted by User:Til Eulenspiegel. I am still convinced that these links do not belong, but apparently a broader discussion is needed than the consensus of WP:NOT and WP:EL... --Dirk Beetstra T C 12:40, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
I agree that we need more discussion. Where should it take place? Aristophanes68 (talk) 15:18, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
On the external links noticeboard. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:34, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Long term campaign by editor with an admitted conflict of interest. From what I can tell appears to be a generic news aggregator; stories read link generic wire service releases.

Not blacklisted yet; lots of extant links (181 just for bignewsnetwork.com). OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:37, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
