Why locked?
[edit]Can someone explain why the article is currently locked?
Anyhow, the bit about the protective cup doesn't belong in the lede. It's in the body of the article where it belongs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.204.96.255 (talk) 21:39, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Gold Glove Award
[edit]The Gold Glove section isn't very objective. Certainly we can mention that there were reasons why he perhaps shouldn't have been given the award, but when it's blatantly obvious that this section has been written by a fan of another MLB team (and it is) I think it's breaching the standards a little. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.113.43.12 (talk) 21:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
pronunciation
[edit]is "tre" really pronounced the same as "chre" is Dominican Spanish? kwami (talk) 05:40, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- since there's no comment, I'm deleting it. kwami (talk) 18:35, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Defensive Ability
[edit]I find it odd that this page seems to depict Beltre as a mediocre fielder, when in fact he is pretty widely regarded as one of the premier defensive third basemen not just of his generation, but of all-time as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.54.82.76 (talk) 23:19, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't follow. This page is objective in talking about defensive errors and Fielding Bible Awards alike. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:21, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- How is that objective? Defensive errors tell basically the opposite of the story, while the Fielding Bible awards are mentioned in throw away lines. And again, it gives the impression of a mediocre fielder to "balance" outdated information (errors, fielding percentages) with legitimate information barely mentioned, which is a disservice to any reader and the subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.54.82.76 (talk) 23:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Errors are not necessarily the best way to judge fielding aptitude, but how is listing errors unobjective? – Muboshgu (talk) 00:55, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- I see where your going with this, how do you purpose we should change it?MilkStraw532 (talk) 00:50, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- Error (baseball) and Fielding percentage already go into some of the limitation of those stats. I can understand how someone sabermetrically inclined might react that the article on Beltre is not neutral, but that should also be tempered with the fact that sabermetrics, especially for fielding, is still a minority view. I would propose 1) removing of stats supported only through a stat site if they are believe to be original research to push a point of view 2) adding more sources that discucss his fielding outside of traditional stats, while being careful to not give WP:UNDUE weight.—Bagumba (talk) 05:55, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Perez?
[edit]I don't follow baseball, and I don't know much about Spanish language or Hispanic culture names, but do we call him Adrian Beltre or Adrian Perez? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.109.204 (talk) 14:09, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- No, he goes by Beltre — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.114.181.210 (talk) 02:29, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- The first last name is the father's last name and the second last name is the mother's last name. The first last name is used as the last name.108.207.39.125 (talk) 01:54, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
NPOV violations
[edit]The article suffers from the use of peacock terms, so many that the article is in violation of WP:NPOV (namely, "avoid stating opinions as facts"). "Lighting-quick," "electric," "smashed," "best season," etc. are examples. The portion dealing with steroid suspicions needs to be more precise. "...some to suspect"? Also, "denied" might be considered a weasel word by any suspecting editor/reader. Ted Miller's Batting Average
[edit]"After batting .167 through April 10, Ted Miller of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer wrote that Beltré may become one of the Mariners' greatest busts." Miller's .167 batting average remains one of the best first-week averages ever for an active sportswriter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.121.148.130 (talk) 21:13, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
