Japanese pre-1945 designations

[edit]

When using the long system or -shi systems the service the aircraft is intended for must be at the front or confusion could reign as there are more than a few similar designations only differentiated by the service.

Not:- Experimental 10-shi Observation Plane

But :- Navy Experimental 10-shi Observation Plane

as opposed to the (fictional): Army Experimental 10-shi Observation Plane Petebutt (talk) 06:51, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The -Shi designation system for prototypes was ONLY used by the IJN (according to Mikesh and Abe), not the Imperial Japanese Army so the addition of "Navy" is unnecessary in this case.Nigel Ish (talk) 16:50, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article really needs a photograph, preferably more than one (pontoon and wheeled arrangements). --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 21:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
