World War II service

During the war DePaolo was a U.S. Army officer (perhaps a full colonel) serving as a military attache' in Geneva. Very little online information seems available. A book source in fine to use. Some people even think it's better than online sources. I'm wondering how relevant his service is to a race driver and car owner.
