Numbering
[edit]"Occasionally, the numbering is reversed, and Ptolemy VIII Physcon is numbered as Ptolemy VII, with the boy-king Neos Philopator numbered Ptolemy VIII"
According to the Physcon article, it seems more likely that in that case Ptolemy VIII would have been Ptolemy Memphitis; Neos Philopator "reigned" in 145 BC (before Physcon), while Memphitis "reigned" in 131/132 BC during the interregnum of Cleopatra II. Coregency claim in Infobox
[edit]The infobox claim under "Coregency" that he reigned with Arsinoe III is not mentioned anywhere else in the article and seems impossible. Arsinoe III is known to have died in 204 BC, but the possible Ptolemy VIIs mentioned here would have been born long after she died. I suppose it is possible that there another possible candidate for Ptolemy VII not mentioned here who might have reigned with Arsinoe III, but chronologically this seems unlikely even given the known problems with numbering the Ptolemys and Cleopatras. Based on what is here Cleopatra II would seem to be almost certainly his co-regent along with Ptolemy VI Philometor if he was indeed his father. Dunarc (talk) 16:23, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- I should also note Arsinoe III was likely his great-grandmother. Dunarc (talk) 16:24, 28 December 2020 (UTC) amended by Dunarc (talk) 21:43, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
