Horse riders network
[edit]Hello 🙂
I hope you are fine, I am reaching out as you are an extended confirmed user and of course a horse lover. I was checking the page with the list of social networking websites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites) and found out that there wasn't in the list the social network for horse lovers: Horsealot. I was wondering if you would consider adding it? I don't know if you already used Horsealot, it's a platform where you can talk with riders from everywhere, ask your questions, help others...
Have a nice day 🙂

Hello Georginahal! I have actually never heard of it, but if you'd like to educate me about it I may be willing to pitch out! Horsegeek(talk) 00:41, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Horsegeek
Hi again Horsegeek(talk)
Here is the link of the network: https://www.horsealot.com/questions/trending , you also have an app. I use it to ask questions about my horse's health, equipment, when I need some advice when I have a problem in the ring with my horse... I also like the fact that you can help other riders by sharing our experiences, and you can discover other equestrian cultures (I met a polo player in Argentina and it's so different from what I know!). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Georginahal (talk • contribs) 10:03, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Georginahal, I was thinking that if would like to start the page under your user name as a special page, then maybe I could help contribute. I have many other articles I'd like to work on, and don't think I'd like to make the whole page by myself as of the moment. Tell me what you decide! ;) Horsegeek(talk) 01:08, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Horsegeek
Incomplete DYK nomination
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Negatiw at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 08:21, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. RonBot (talk) 18:04, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
[edit]Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information. For more information about the columns and categories, please consult the documentation and please get in touch on SuggestBot's talk page with any questions you might have.
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly; your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. -- SuggestBot (talk) 23:24, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Please participate to the talk pages consultation
[edit]Hello
Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.
We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.
We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

DYK for Negatiw
[edit]On 31 March 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Negatiw, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Negatiw was named the "Champion Stallion" at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow in 1954? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Negatiw. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Negatiw), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Foulden Maar DYK
[edit]Hi, I have been working on the Foulden Maar DYK at the same time as you. I do not need the QPQ and another set of eyes would be great (I am a geologist and may not know what normal people find interesting). If you are not interested, I can give it the GTG. Happy either way, just don’t want to step on your toes. (Dushan Jugum (talk) 02:20, 20 May 2019 (UTC)).
- Hey, Dushan Jugum! I do not mind at all, I took another look over it and believe it is indeed good to go. Feel free to pass it off Horsegeek(talk) 02:54, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Edit Gave it the little check mark as I had time. Thank you for your input :) Horsegeek(talk) 03:01, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Your help offer
[edit]Much appreciated. Have a few things but a priority would be how does one organize maximum participation at WikiProject Horse racing? I want to start by getting a consensus on a standardized Winners table.
You wrote: "Hey there! I've noticed you've seemed to have trouble with a couple of aspects on Wikipedia". Help me out by giving me some examples where I'm having trouble then for sure would seek some input from you and/or others. Thanks. Stretchrunner (talk) 11:01, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hey again, Stretchrunner! WikiProject Horse Racing links closely with Wikipedia: WikiProject Equine, where there are a bit more people active. You might want to look into joining and seeking out red links! As for a Winners table, what do you mean by that? (I am not a thorough expert on horse-racing or other means so my apologies). To Max participants, there is not so much we can do as inviting newcomers to the project.
- And I meant anything in the general. You seemed to have a few drafts go unaccepted, and that can be a bit of a frustration sometimes. I usually take out the draft part and make things under my own Special page (Ex. User:Horsegeek/Spirit Animals (series)) after you’ve become experienced in knowing what makes an article credible. Then you may move your article to main space whenever you’d please. :) Horsegeek(talk) 13:21, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Really do appreciate your efforts. Very thoughtful.
I wasn't aware or don't remember (an age thing) I had a "few drafts go unaccepted" - can you give me some links?
Do I understand that User:Horsegeek/Spirit Animals (series) doesn't come up in Wikipedia but is only accessible by you or through your page? If so, what do you do with the page when you are done? Plus, I still haven't really figured out what my "Sandbox" is for.
Wikipedia: WikiProject Equine - looks interesting but I have to prioritize. Horses are a big thing in my family, be it ownership of T'breds for racing through partnerships, or dressage and cross-country horses for my daughter and now granddaughters.
As to the "Winners table" - it is fundamental to any article on any horse race. Wikipedia has many variations that need to be standardized. Firstly, with the input columns then the setup within each column (I'm talking North America only but Europe etc. has it's own unique setup(s)). And, we have them in a rainbow of colors. As soon as I get a moment, I'll find a few and post a link here so you can see what I mean. After we create a standard table through consensus then there are numerous other issues, i.e. the Wikipedia "general notability guideline" which has one standard for some sports and a near-opposite for others. Stretchrunner (talk) 14:26, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- It’s no problem at all, Stretchrunner! (Hope you don’t mind me pinging you after every reply) I may have misworded that: I meant the previous messages on your talk page talking about your articles getting moved to draft space.
- I believe that it is accessible by anyone since I previously have seen others, but they are only easily accessed through links. Anyone can help write on special pages such as my own that I linked.
- Sandboxes are to be used however you’d like. They are to test different things such as templates, userboxes, you can even write an article there before transferring it to an actual page of its own. I think it splendid that a fellow horse lover like you join and help contribute to Wikipedia—we could definitely benefit from your extensive knowledge, especially since you have spent much time around them! I completely understand you wanting to prioritize, feel free to join any other WikiProjects at any time though!
- As for your Winner Table, it sounds like a great idea. For a start, I would bring up the topic in the talk page of the WikiProject, or individual user talk pages. There are many experienced with that sort of thing and I’m sure would love to help out! (My area of expertise on here is individual horses, not so much with the coding that makes templates and tables so I’m not really of much help there) Horsegeek(talk) 22:12, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Help on refs
[edit]Thanks for your offer of help. Question: I am doing an article where I have a major source that I will need to reference several times. Somewhere I saw an article where they did the initial ref in what (if I remember right) was in the standard way but each successive use of that ref had a simple short version that got the same ref # throughout. Can you show me how I could create that? Much thanks. Stretchrunner (talk) 16:46, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hi again Stretchrunner. Could you possibly link an article with this structure? It would be easier for me to help you this way. Thanks! Horsegeek(talk) 18:19, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Horsegeek
